IPL updates: Sunrisers make it to the play-offs

Sunrisers Hyderabad have made it the play-offs courtesy of two huge sixes from Darren Sammy that sealed the issue for the hosts. 

Chasing 131 for victory, Sunrisers openers Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan gave them tremendous start putting on 89 runs for the opening wicket. 

Iqbal Abdulla kept the game alive by picking up quick wickets, but Sammy knocked off the remaining runs with two huge sixes. 

Sunrisers' victory means, Royal Challengers are knocked off the play-offs.

Poor shot to say the least in the circumstances as Vihari went for a slog sleep, only to get a top edge and was easily taken by Paras Dogra at backward point.

Iqbal Abdulla comes into the attack and Parthiv Patel welcomes him with a boundary over fine-leg fielder's head. 

Poor ball from Abdulla as Parthiv rocks back and pulls it over fielders head. 

A tap straight down the ground gives Parthiv the single. 

Abdulla finally gives KKR fans something to cheer about as he had Shikhar Dhawan walking back for 42. 

Dhawan, who has been batting so well, tried to play a reverse sweep -- misses as umpire Asad Rauf had little trouble in raising his finger. 

Abdulla then in his next over had Parthiv Patel walking back for 47. 

Patel, who got across the stumps in search of a single was adjudged leg-before-wicket. 

At the end of 13 overs Sunrisers were 103-2.  Hanuma Vihari is on 4, along with Cameroon White who is on 2. 

Sunrisers require 28 runs from 36 balls.

Its been a batting exhibition by the Sunrisers Hyderabad as openers Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel have put on 74-runs so far for the first wicket.


Parthiv Patel was the aggressor to start off with, before Shikhar Dhawan exploded on KKR bowlers as they looked out of sorts with the blitz.

Dhawan is on 37 with three boundaries and two massive sixes, while Parthiv is on 35, with six boundaries.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are off to a positive start chasing 131 for victory. 

Parthiv Patel has been the aggressor of the two smashing couple of boundaries in the over of Pradeep Sangwan. 

Pathiv also looked comfortable facing Sunil Narine. At the end of five overs, Sunrisers were 30-0.

Parthiv is on 22, while Shikhar Dhawan is on 6.

Good bowling in the middle overs from Sunrisers Hyderabad have ensured KKR were restricted to 130-7.

KKR were really struggling for momentum, before Yusuf Pathan bailed them out with a 29-ball 49 to push the score past 115-run mark. 

Dale Steyn was the most successful bowler with figures of 2-24 from his four overs.

A win for Sunrisers will push them to the play-offs.

The spin twins of Amit Mishra and Karan Sharma have stifled Kolkata Knight Riders as they struggled to get the momentum throughout the contest. 

Amit Mishra picked up his second wicket as he had Ryan ten Doeschate fooled by a wrong one. 

ten Doeschate failed to read the wrong-one from Mishra and was caught on the backfoot for 1.

At the end of 18 overs KKR were 111-5. Yusuf Pathan is on 34, while Paras Dogra is on 5.

Spin is stifling Kolkata Knight Riders as Karna Sharma removes dangerous Morgan for 9.

Morgan who had played an outrageous reverse sweep in the first over of Karan Sharma had survived a close call prior to this. 

But this time round, Morgan was caught playing across the line and was adjudged leg-before-wicket by umpire Sudhir Asnani. 

At the end of 11 overs, KKR were 60-3. Kallis is on 18 and he is joined in by Ysuf Pathan who is on one.

Spin introduced now by Sunrisers in the form of Amit Mishra. 

First up is a short and wide delivery from Mishra -- Gambhir cuts it straight to poit fielder and shoots off. 

Kallis did not want the run and by the time the Gambhir saw, he was already half way down the track -- Samantray throws the ball to keeper, who whips the bails off to leave KKR skipper frustrated. 

Gambhir was back in the hut for 10.

An excellent over from Mishra sees him giving only 5 runs as KKR were 47-2 after 8 overs.

With the pressure being kept by the Sunrisers bowler, Darren Sammy runs in for his first over. 

First is a slower one from Sammy as Gambhir lemon cuts it -- no run. 

A short wide delivery from Sammy but Gambhir fails to take advantage of the bad ball -- no run. 

Sammy this time bowls a fuller length delivery as Gambhir finally gets a single with a hit down the ground. 

A slower bouncer from Sammy has Kallis pulling it towards square leg -- poor fielding gives the South African his first boundary. 

Kallis follows it with a flick towards fine leg for another boundary. 

At the end of seven overs, KKR were 42-1. Kallis is on 10, Gambhir is on 10 too.

Thisara Perera into the attack as Gambhir takes a single through short fine-leg. 

Bisla then takes advantage of a loose delivery from Perera and smashes it for a boundary towards deep-fine leg. 

Perera however has the last laugh as he induces a top-edge from Bisla and is easily caught by Cameroon White at mid-wicket. 

KKR were 27-1 after five overs.

First up is a right on the money from Steyn as Bisla defends on the backfoot. 

Next up is a short and wide delivery from Steyn and Bisla is quite happy to dispatch it for a boundary through point. 

Bisla steals a single with a tap on the legside as KKR were 5-0 after first over.

Welcome to the final game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. 

It's a must-win game for the Sunrisers as a win here will put them in play-offs. A loss will see Royal Challengers making it to the last-four. 

Knight Riders have won the toss and have elected to bat first on a slow pitch here in Hyderabad. 

KKR have made five changes to their side, while Ishant misses out for Sunrisers with Anand Rajan making it to the side.

Mathews has Irfan (24) caught by Manish Pandey at long-on to finish with figures of three for 14 off three overs. 

Dinda to bowl the final over. He conceded just six runs while taking Nadeem's (6) wicket. 

Delhi restricted to 134 for nine in their 20 overs as Pune win by 38 runs to consign their opponent to the bottom of the table.

Angelo Mathews' second over is the final nail in Delhi's coffin. The Sri Lankan first has Gautam (30) caught by Gomez and midwicket, and two balls later, has Morkel (0) caught by Parnell at deep midwicket.

Murtaza ends with impressive figures of three for 16. 

Irfan Pathan and Muralidharen Gautam have combined well for the sixth wicket for Delhi, putting in a 50-plus partnership. But it is perhaps too little, too late.

Murtaza's second over turns the game completely in favour of Pune. The spinner first has Sehwag (11) caught by Raiphi Gomez at deep cover before trapping Bharat Chipli (16) out leg before off the next ball.

However, Warner doesn't make much of his reprieve, Parnell having him caught behind in his second over. 

Bharat Chipli comes out to join his captain and converts a free-hit to a huge hit over deep square leg. Jayawardene also helps himself to a boundary as 16 runs come from the over.

Ashok Dinda comes in to bowl the fourth over. The only scoring shot in the over is a boundary by Chipli.

Ali Murtaza to bowl the fifth over and he strikes fifth ball. Having survived a stumping in the previous ball, Jayawardene (14) hits a wide ball straight to Wright at point.

That brings Virender Sehwag to the crease.

David Warner and Mahela Jayawardene open the batting for Delhi and it will be Wayne Parnell first up for Pune. He gives away 12 runs. 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to share the new ball and he is unfortunate first ball as Finch puts down Warner (on 1) at first slip off the first ball.

Yadav to bowl the penultimate over. A six to long-on by Mathews off the first ball helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Wright follows it up with a six and two boundaries.

The fifth-wicket partnership of 72 (off 37 balls) has helped Pune to a comfortable position, the home team scoring 172 for five in their stipulated 20 overs.

Mathews and Wright are putting together a good little partnership here.

Irfan Pathan finally gets a wicket in his final over, having Yuvraj Singh (3) caught by Sehwag. 

Two quick wickets and Delhi back in the game. Irfan ends with figures of one for 34.

Shahbaz Nadeem strikes in the fourth ball after resumption, crshing through Manish Pandey's (10) defense. Yuvraj Singh comes out to join his captain at the crease. 

Irfan's third over is an expensive one, 12 runs coming off it, with Finch first hitting a six over backward square-leg and following it up with a boundary in the same area.

Kaul replaces Nadeem (2-0-9-1) in the attack in the 12th over and a single off the second ball helps Finch get to his fifty. However, the bowler has the last laugh, having Finch (52) caught by Sehwag.

Pune 91 for three after 12 overs.

Manish Pandey gets going with a huge six off Irfan. Shahbaaz Nadeem introduced into the attack in the eighth over, replacing Yadav (1-0-2-1). He gives away six runs first up.

Yadav is back from the other end and Finch welcomes him with a huge six over long-on. Two balls later, he repeats the feat, this time over midwicket, and follows it up with a boundary through extra cover.

Pune 71 for one after nine overs. Time for a time-out.

Irfan is replaced after that expensive opening over, Siddharth Kaul coming in to ball. Finch smashes the fifth ball over long-on for a six even as nine runs come off the over. Seven come off Morkel's second over.

Umesh Yadav replaces the South African in the attack in the sixth over and strikes his first ball, having Uthappa (24) caught by David Warner at point.

Aaron Finch and Robin Uthappa open the batting for Pune and it will be Irfan Pathan first up with the ball for Delhi. It's an expensive first over, 11 runs coming off it with both the openers finding the fence. 

Morne Morkel to share the new ball. He concedes five runs.

Pune Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils at the Sahara Subrata Roy stadium.

"Still quite dry and I don't think it is going to change much. It is better to put runs on the board first," reasoned captain Aaron Finch.

Rajasthan Royals intend to file a complaint with the police against the three players, asking them to investigate and punish the players for the actions committed, confirms BCCI president N Srinivasan.

We have requested commission of police Delhi to provide us with information to help us complete our domestic investigation.

Ravi Sawani appointed commissioner to enquire into allegations against the players. The enquiry will be quickly done. We have rules, process, the BCCI's own system so we will wait for the enquiry to complete and as we have said earlier we will not hesitate to act if the players are guilty.

The players are contracted to the franchise not the BCCI, so the franchise will file a complaint with the police.

BCCI president N Srinivasan has assured stringent action if the three players are found guilty.

"Lifetime ban on the players if they are found guilty in the probe," he says.

He also pointed out that BCCI will not cover up for anyone.

"We will not cover up for somebody. Our actions must be fair so we have to go through the process, if somebody is found guilty then definitely we will act."

If you look at this whole incident it is a question of three players who are alleged to have committed something wrong -- spot-fixing as they call it. We will go by the report of our inquiry commission and the disciplinary committe will take steps accordingly, says Srinivasan.

Henceforth, all players agents will have to be accreditated with the BCCI. One ACSU officer will be present with each IPL team.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that BCCI will bring in new legislation for greater vigilance on IPL players and team officials.

A new guidelines will be issued to all the IPL teams to initiate more vigilance measures on their players and officials.

The latest on the IPL spot-fixing sage is that Rajasthan Royals will file FIR against the three arrested players for cheating the public.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's working committee meeting has ended in Chennai. BCCI chief N Srinivasan will address the media at 1pm IST to brief on what decisions have been taken against the three Rajasthan Royals players caught in the IPL spot-fixing saga.

A special cell of the Delhi police arrested India pacer S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for allegedly indulging in spot-fixing in at least three IPL matches as per arrangements with bookies who have underworld connections abroad.

The players, who have been suspended by the BCCI, are charged under section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and being interrogated in Delhi.
