Tendulkar walks back unbeaten on a good innings of 38 from 73 balls, having hit six fours. His footwork has been very confident and positive during this innings, which has been amiss for the last few years.

Pujara also looked solid during his knock of 34 from 49 balls, but went unnoticed as the day was only about one man.

The duo put on an unbroken stand of 80 runs in 122 balls to help India consolidate their dominant position in the match.

Except for the two wickets in an over by Shillingford, it was a poor performance by West Indies, who crashed out for a lowly 182.

In reply, India reached 157 for two in 34 overs scoring at 4.61 runs per over, and now trail the visitors by only 25 runs with four more days to go.

Pragyan Ojha was the star performer for India on Day 1 as he registered excellent figures of five for 40.

All eyes will be on Tendulkar tomorrow as the fans will be expecting him to finish his career on a high with a century.

Tendulkar's defence has been immaculate today as he confidently stretches out and blocks it. The next one is wide as Tendulkar lets it go before he ducks under the bouncer.

Tendulkar produces another confident frontfoot defensive shot before he ducks under another quick bouncer.

And believe it or not...Tino Best has given Sachin the angry stare!!! the Mumbai fans don't like it a bit.

Sammy comes back for another spell. The first ball is full and on the stumps as Tendulkar plays his trademark straight drive for a boundary, his sixth to take his score to 37. He drives the next ball to sweeper cover for one and Pujara gets one from the next ball.

Tendulkar negotiates the last three balls as he decides to take it easy with two more overs left in the day.

We are into over time now with four more overs to go in the day. The official close of play time was 1630 IST but the umpires decided to utilise the extra half an hour to complete the daily quota of overs.

Three balls later, Pujara flicks it on the off-side to bring Tendulkar back on strike. The master batsman watchfully plays the fifth ball from the crease with the full face of the bat.

He drives the sixth ball through the cover where the mid-off fielder runs across and stops it, to give away only a single.

Meanwhile, coming back to the match India lost two wickets in that over from Shillingford.

Vijay was caught at short leg for 43 as the entire stadium cheered for that wicket as their favourite Tendulkar walked out to bat for his last Test match.

Dhawan was caught at deep square leg earlier in the over.

Tendulkar plays the first ball he faced, from Shillingford, on the bounce to short leg and defend the next on the off-side. And every ball was cheered so loudly as if it were a boundary hit.

A double wicket maiden for Shillingford, to reduce India to 77 for two after 14 overs.

Sachin Tendulkar will walk out to bat after India lose the wicket of opener Murali Vijay, who falls to Shillingford.

The crowd erupts at the Wankhede stadium. This could be his last innings in cricket.

You can barely hear anything right now inside the stadium. The West Indies players and the umpire form a guard of honour as Tendulkar walks out to bat, in his final Test match.

Shikhar Dhawan has thrown his wicket away once again in the series, after getting off to a start. He tried to sweep Shillingford on the leg side but got a top edge and was caught at deep square leg after scoring a quick 33 from 28 balls, including seven fours.

He provided India with a superb start, putting on 77 runs from 13.2 overs. However, he threw his wicket away tamely with another reckless shot.

Best bowls it full and wide and Dhawan needs no second invitation to slap it through the covers for a boundary. Two balls later he pulls it fine but Gabriel on the fine leg boundary is unable to get down in time and gives away a four. The next ball is full and this time on the pads and Dhawan helps himself to the third four of the over, through midwicket.

Dhawan is on the charge, hitting seven fours to race to 30 from 23 balls.

Ojha finishes with five for 40 in 11 overs as the West Indies crash for a lowly 182 in their first innings.

A disappointing batting performance by the visitors as they didn't even last two sessions and were bowled out six minutes before the official tea break.

They lost their last seven wickets for 42 runs in the space of 15 overs for their second poor batting performance in a row.

The West Indies batsmen found it hard even against Ashwin, taking three for 45 in 15 overs. Shami was the most impressive, taking one for 36 in 12 overs, while Bhuvneshwar claimed one for 45 in 17 overs.

Ashwin gets his second wicket as Deonarine is caught by Murali Vijay at second slip as he comes up with a good diving catch to his left.

Deonarine is out for 21 as West Indies slip to 162 for six in the 49th over.

It looks like West Indies won't even survive the opening day.

And captain Darren Sammy gifts his wicket away with a reckless shot, trying to hit Ashwin over midwicket but holes out to Rohit on the leg side for a duck.

Deonarine slog sweeps Ashwin over midwicket for a boundary to bring up the 150 for West Indies.

However, the left-hander gets a lifeline off the last ball of that over. Virat Kohli put down a straightforward chance at second slip as Deonarine (12) hit one straight at him. That's second catch dropped by the Indians today.

Kumar finally finds the edge and it's the big wicket of Chanderpaul. The left-hander edges it to first slip where Ashwin takes an easy catch to send back Chanderpaul and reduce West Indies to 148 for five in 44 overs.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul walks in to bat in his 150th Test match. He gets off the mark in some style, charging down the track to his second ball and lofting it over midwicket for a six.

Samuels then comes down the track but gets a thick outside edge which goes through the covers for three runs.

Another good over from Shami as WI reach 93 for two in 28 overs at lunch on Day 1.

Powell had battled hard to reach 45 from 72 balls, while Samuels is yet to open his account from 16 balls.

Gayle survives a very confident appeal for LBW against Shami. The left-hander played back and tried to defend but missed and was stuck in line and was perhaps saved by the height or maybe the inside edge.

Two balls later he crashes a full delivery past mid-off for his first boundary and then turns the fifth ball on the leg side for one.

The pitch is not doing much and West Indies will be delighted to bat first if they can play out the pacers without much damage.

Gayle hits the first ball on the leg side where Tendulkar fields at mid-on for a single. Powell guides the next ball past point for two runs before Kumar beats the left-hander with a beauty as the ball moves enough to beat the drive. A good first over from the Indian pacer.

Sachin Tendulkar will sign off from cricket after 24 glorious years in the second Test against the West Indies, starting at the Wankhede stadium, in Mumbai, on Thursday.

Going into the match, his 200th Test, the batting icon has 15,847 runs, the most by a batsman. He also has the most centuries (51). However, the last of them came almost three years back, against South Africa in Cape Town.

Welcome to the coverage of the second and final Test match between India and West Indies, at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, on Thursday.

There is a huge excitement outside the stadium as people somehow try to clamour in to catch master batsman Sachin Tendulkar in his last Test match.

This will be Tendulkar's 200th and final Test match.

The two teams are warming up in the middle. India are set to retain the same team that won the first Test in Kolkata. There are a lot of empty seats in the stadium as of now but a lot of people have queued up outside and trying to get in.
