WI 1-1 (1 over) vs India

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl the first over for India and up against him will be Chris Gayle with Johnson Charles at the other end.

The first ball bounces a bit and hits Gayle high on the bat as he looks to defend. Gayle tapped the next ball on the off-side and set for a quick but Kumar ran across after his delivery and got the left-hander with a direct hit at the bowler's end.

And to rub salt on Gayle's wound, the batsman seems to have injured himself as he stumbled at the end of his run. He seems to be in a lot of pain and is carried off the ground in a stretcher.

Charles lets the third ball go through but is beaten by the next as the ball moves away before he gets WI off the mark with a single to mid-off.

Marlon Samuels is beaten all ends up off the last ball which is again a good outswinger.

"We were also looking to bat first with humidity being a factor. The pitch will get slower as the game progresses," India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said at the toss.

India made one change to their team, bringing in left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat in place of R Vinay Kumar.

Ravi Shastri reckons it's not the normal Kochi pitch but is a bit slower. The pitch will be slow and sticky and will get slower as the match progresses, he says.

He believes that the captain winning the toss must bat first and put a big score because it won't be easy to bat in the second half of the match.

Welcome to the coverage of the first One-Day International between India and West Indies, in Kochi, on Thursday.

After demolishing the West Indies in the two-match Test series, Team India will look to extend its supremacy in the three-match ODIs as well.

World Cup champions India recently got the better of Australia 3-2 in a rain-hit seven-match series which was dominated by batsmen from both teams.

West Indies will be hoping their batsmen can put up an improved performances in the ODIs after their poor showing in the Tests.

India's batting looks quite formidable and a lot of their batsmen are in top form. Rohit Sharma, who scored a double century in his last ODI match vs Australia and then hit back to back centuries in the Tests vs West Indies, will be looking to continue his recent good run.

Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina will be desperate to get back among the runs after their poor showing in the Australia ODIs.
