Timeline  Refresh

20:58

India: 362-1 (43.3 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

Maxwell to bowl the 44th over. Rohit hits the first ball for a boundary and the second for a six. A four of the third ball seals it for the home team.

India win by nine wickets, with 6.3 overs to spare.

Rohit is unbeaten on 141 and Virat on 100, their second wicket partnership worth 186 runs.

It is the second biggest run chase in ODI history. In fact the four biggests ODI run chases have had Australia at the receiving end.
20:53

India: 348-1 (43 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

A boundary by Rohit, in Faulkner's seventh over, helps raise the Indian 300, in the 39th over.

Johnson's ninth over costs Australia 18 runs.

A six of Doherty takes Kohli to 99 and he duly completes his hundred, off just 52 balls - the fastest by an Indian, the seventh fastest ever.

It is Kohli's 16th ODI hundred.
20:32

India: 294-1 (38 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

A cracking cover drive by Rohit off Faulkner helps raise the 100-run partnership for the second wicket, one that has come off just 62 balls.

A sizzling square drive off Johnson helps Rohit reach his third ODI hundred, his first in more than three years.
20:20

India: 262-1 (35 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

Faulkner provides a much-needed breakthrough, having Dhawan (95) caught behind.

Dhawan's 86-ball knock was inclusive of 14 hits to the fence and he helped Rohit add 176 runs (in 157 balls) for the opening wicket.

Virat Kohli has got into the act with immediate effect. He reaches his 26th ODI fifty in quick time.

The home team is comfortably-placed at 262 for one after 35 overs.
19:26

India: 173-0 (25 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

Successive boundaries in Faulkner's second over by Dhawan takes India past the 150-run mark.

This partnership is causing serious trouble for the Australians.

Johnson replaces Doherty (6-0-36-0) in the attack in the 24th over and Dhawan smashes the second ball in front of square for a boundary. Three balls later the treatment is repeated.

It's Watson from the other end and Dhawan smashes the first ball past cover to the fence. Two balls later, the batsman finds the deep square leg fence. It's poor bowling by Watson.
19:09

India: 136-0 (21 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

A splendid late cut of Doherty helps Dhawan reach his fourth ODI fifty, his first against the visitors. He celebrates the same with another boundary, this time off a cover drive.

James Faulkner comes out to bowl for the first time in the 21st over, replacing Maxwell (4-0-20-0) in the attack. He gives away eight runs first up with Dhawan finding the fence.
18:59

India: 111-0 (18 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

Xavier Doherty into the attack in the 12th over, replacing McKay (5-0-37-0). Can he get the much-needed breakthrough?

He gives away five runs first up. It's twin spin with Glenn Maxwell replacing Watson (3-0-26-0) at the other end. He gives away just four runs.

Doherty almost provides Australia a wicket they so desperately needed, having Dhawan (42) stumped. However, the third umpire isn't convinced.

The Aussie spinners have tied things down a bit but India is still pretty much in control.

Rohit breaks the shackles with a huge six over long-on off Maxwell, a shot that helps India get past the 100-run mark. A boundary in Doherty's next over helps Rohit complete his 19th ODI fifty, but only his second against Australia.
18:33

India: 80-0 (11 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

It's a brilliant partnership from the Indian openers.

They have taken the attack to the opposition.

Australia desperately need a wicket. The problem is, it is not happening.
18:26

India: 69-0 (10 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

With the two front line bowlers failing to make the breakthrough, Bailey is forced to make an early bowling change. Shane Watson replaces Johnson (3-1-13-0) in the seventh over. He gives away just a single.

McKay is unlucky as Haddin puts down Dhawan (on 18). The batsman adds insult to injury by hitting three successive boundaries in Watson's second over, the second of them helping raise the 50-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Rohit helps himself to a couple of boundaries in McKay's fifth over.
18:04

India: 30-0 (5 overs)
Australia: 359-5 (50 overs)

Voges gets into the act with a huge six, over square leg, off Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the latter ending with figures of none for 54.

Bailey and Maxwell are smashing the Indian bowlers all over the park now. Both of them reach their respective half centuries in quick time.

Jadeja ends an uneventful spell with figures of none for 72.

The partnership is brought to an abrupt end by Maxwell's (53) unnecessary run out. Maxwell's 32-ball innings was inclusive of seven boundaries and a six and he helped his captain add 96 runs (off just 51 balls) for the fourth wicket.

Australia: 158-1 (29 overs)

Ashwin's second over is an expensive one as well, eight runs coming off it with Watson finding the fence.

14:38
Scorecard:

Australia: 79-1 (16 overs)

A massive six over deep square leg in the first ball of Vinay Kumar's third over helps Finch reach his second ODI fifty.

It is the 26-year-old's third fifty on the tour, along with his effort in the Pune T20.

However, Raina runs him out with a direct hit in the next ball.

Finch's 53-ball 50 was inclusive of seven bundaries and a six and he helped Hughes add 74 runs for the opening wicket.

Shane Watson is the new batsman. He starts off with an edgy boundary.
14:29
Scorecard:

Australia: 66-0 (14 overs)

Yuvraj singh puts down Finch (on 25) at point. Ishant is frustrated. Understandably so.

Finch rubs salt to his wounds with a boundary, beautifully hit through mid-off. The visitors reach 46 without loss after 10 overs, the madatory powerplay period.

They reach the 50-run mark in the 11th over, courtesy a boundary by Hughes. R Vinay Kumar replaces Ishant (5-1-24-0) in the attack in the 12th over. He gives away six runs first up with Finch finding the fence.
14:03
Scorecard:
