Timeline  Refresh

21:21

India: 351-4 (49.3 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

India require just 20 runs from the last two overs now. Watson to bowl the penultimate over.

Two boundaries by Kohli helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket even as 14 runs come off the over. India now needs just six off the final over.

Faulkner to bowl. Dhoni gets a boundary off the second ball. The captain gets a couple off the third ball, as India win with three balls to spare.

Kohli (115 not out) and Dhoni (25 not out) add 61 runs for the fifth wicket to take India home.

Australia have now been at the receiving end in the top five run chases in ODI history.
21:09

India: 331-4 (48 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

MS Dhoni is the new batsman in. When on four he becomes only the second Indian batsman, after Sachin Tendulkar, to complete 1,000 ODI runs against Australia.

A boundary off Watson by Kohli helps India get to the 300 run mark. The home teams needs 51 runs in six overs now. Fairly simple task this.

Johnson has bowled out, ending with figures of two for 72. India need 35 off 18.

Three boundaries off Faulkner takes Kohli to 103, his 17th ODI hundred. It came off just 61 balls, the third fastest by an Indian. He scored the fastest in Jaipur.
20:45

India: 291-4 (43 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Kohli hits three successive boundaries off Johnson, as 15 runs come off the bowler's seventh over. It's all going India's way now.

A boundary by Raina, off Watson, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket.

Johnson finally helps himself to a wicket, having Raina (16) caught behind. Replaces show he didn't hit and umpire Nigel Llong got it wrong.

Raina helped Kohli add 56 runs for the third wicket. Yuvraj is the new batsman. He doesn't survive long as Johnson crashes past his defence.
20:26

India: 267-2 (40 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Suresh Raina joins Kohli at the crease.

A boundary off Faulkner helps Kohli complete his 27th ODI fifty, off just 31 balls.

India manage 46 runs in the batting powerplay at the cost of Dhawan's wicket.

Johnson is back into the attack in the 39th over, replacing McKay (7-0-47-0). He starts off with a wide but gives away just three runs in what is probably his best over of the day.
20:06

India: 234-2 (36 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Virat Kohli is the new batsman in. His six off Doherty helps India get past the 200-run mark.

Doherty, who replaced Maxwell (7-0-40-0) in the 33rd over, goes for 17 in his comeback over, Kohli getting all of them. The batting powerplay is taken immediately after.

Dhawan and Kohli are combining well, even India inches closer to repeating its Jaipur feat.

A couple off Faulkner helps Dhawan complete his fourth ODI hundred. All four have come this year.

He also completes 1,000 runs in the year. However, Faulkner cleans him up in the last ball.

Dhawan's 102-ball 100 was inclusive of 11 boundaries and he put on 56 runs (in 39 balls) for the second wicket with Kohli.
19:39

India: 187-1 (31 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Aaron Finch is handed the ball in the 26th over, replacing an expensive Johnson (5-0-42-0). He gives away just two runs first up.

The home team gets past the 150-run mark in the 27th over.

Rohit hits successive sixes off Maxwell but gets carried away in the process, Finch having him caught by Faulkner.

Rohit's 89-ball 79 was incluisve of seven hits to the fence and three over it, and he helped Shikhar add 178 runs (in 29.3 overs) for the opening wicket.
19:20

India: 146-0 (25 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Glenn Maxwell replaces Watson (3-0-21-0) in the attack in the 19th over, the latter going off the field.

He gives away just two runs, the second helping India reach the 100-run mark.

Johnson comes back, in place of Doherty (5-0-23-0) in the 22nd over. It's an expensive change, with 14 runs coming off the over.

A boundary off Johnson helps Rohit complete his 19th ODI fifty.

It is the record opening partnership on this ground.
18:54

India: 98-0 (18 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Xavier Doherty replaces McKay (5-0-29-0) in the attack in the 11th over. He gives away just three runs.

It's a twin bowling change, Shane Watson coming in for Faulkner (3-0-13-0). He concedes six runs first up.

A boundary from Dhawan, a classic square drive off Watson, helps him reach his fifth ODI fifty, his second against Australia - after 95 in Jaipur.

He celebrates the same with a boundary off Doherty, the first four the bowler has conceded in this innings so far.
18:25

India: 64-0 (11 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

India do well in the mandatory powerplay, scoring 56 runs without losing a wicket. In fact, the 10th over - bowled by McKay - costs the visitors 14 runs.

Maxwell is guilty of dropping Dhawan (on 19) at backward point, Faulkner being the unfortunate bowler.
17:47

India: 17-0 (3 overs)
Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

Mitchell Johnson to open the bowling for Australia even as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan start the proceedings for India with the bat.

Rohit hits the first ball between cover and point to the fence. The only other run in the over comes from a wide.

Clint McKay to bowl with the second new ball. He concedes just two runs first up.
16:47

Australia: 350-6 (50 overs)

A huge six over midwicket by Bailey, off Jadeja, helps Australia get past the 300-run mark in the 46th over. With four overs left, 350 looks a distinct possibility.

A single by Voges, off Mishra, helps raise the 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

A boundary off Mishra helps Bailey get past the 150-run mark. It is the highest ODI score by an Australian captain against India, besting Ricky Ponting 140 not out in the 2003 World Cup final in Johannesburg.

Jadeja to bowl the final over of the innings. Bailey (156) hits the second ball straight to Kohli at long-off.

Bailey's 114-ball knock was inclusive of 13 hits to the fence and six over it, and he put on 120 runs (in just 80 balls) with Adam Voges (44 not out) for the fifth wicket.

Voges goes next ball, hitting straight back to the bowler. It is Jadeja's 100th ODI wicket. Wait! It's a no ball. And a free hit.

However, Jadeja has another wicket, having Mitchell Johnson (0) caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Finally, Jadeja gets his 100th ODI wicket.
16:13

Australia: 271-4 (43 overs)

Glenn Maxwell has come out to join his captain at the crease. He hits successive boundaries off Ashwin before perishing while attempting a third, Bhuvneshwar taking a good, controlled catch in the deep.

Adam Voges is the new batsman. Bailey hits three successive boundaries in Bhuvneshwar's seventh over to move to 96.

Australia manage 46 runs off the batting powerplay, losing two wickets in the process.

A single off Raina helps Bailey complete his second ODI hundred. No one deserved it more. He has been the in form player in the series.

Voges and Bailey are combining well here, and that is bad news for India.
16:07

Australia: 255-4 (41 overs)

Glenn Maxwell has come out to join his captain at the crease. He hits successive boundaries off Ashwin before perishing while attempting a third, Bhuvneshwar taking a good, controlled catch in the deep.

Adam Voges is the new batsman. Bailey hits three successive boundaries in Bhuvneshwar's seventh over to move to 96.

Australia manage 46 runs off the batting powerplay, losing two wickets in the process.

A single off Raina helps Bailey complete his second ODI hundred. No one deserved it more. He has been the in form player in the series.
15:45

Australia: 213-3 (35 overs)

Mishra is back to bowl in the 34th over, replacing Kohli (2-0-15-0). Watson welcomes him with successive boundaries, the second of those hits helping Australia get to the 200-run mark.

The visitors take the batting powerplay in the 35th over and three successive boundaries off Shami helps Watson complete his ninth ODI hundred, his second against India.

However, Shami has the last laugh, getting past the batsman's defences with the fourth ball.

Watson's 102 came off 94 balls, and included 13 boundaries and three sixes. Besides, he helped his captain add 168 runs (off just 23.3 overs) for the third wicket, laying the foundation of this Australian innings.
15:30

Australia: 188-2 (32 overs)

Over 50 runs have come in the last five overs for Australia. A boundary by Watson off Ashwin, his seventh, helps raise the 100-run partnership for the third wicket.

Another three runs in the fourth ball of the over helps the visitors get past the 150-run mark.

With his regular bowlers failing to make an impact, Dhoni is forced to hand the ball to Virat Kohli in the 29th over, replacing Jadeja (6-0-33-0). The over witnesses Bailey complete his 12th ODI half century, his fourth against India.

The Australian captain has been brilliant in the series, in the process becoming the captain to score the most runs in a bilateral series.

Kohli (1-0-5-0) is taken off after just one over. Mishra is back. He concedes eight, including a last ball six to Bailey.

Oh! No. Kohli is back at the other end, in place of Jadeja (7-0-44-0). No respite though, Bailey smashes a boundary off the second ball.
15:11

Australia: 143-2 (27 overs)

Ashwin replaces Jadeja (4-0-16-0) at the other end. Bailey slaps the first ball through backward point for his first boundary.

The Australian skipper continues his aggression against Ashwin, hitting a boundary over mid-off in his sixth over and following it up with a huge six. The latter hit not only helped raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket but also helped the visitors cross the 100-run mark.

A huge six over deep midwicket off Mishra, followed by a boundary off Jadeja helped Watson get to 49. He duly completed his 31st ODI fifty, his fifth against India, with a single two balls later.

Watson celebrated the feat with two huge sixes, one each off Jadeja and Mishra.
14:41

Australia: 72-2 (18 overs)

A single by George Bailey off Ashwin helps Australia reach the 50-run mark, in the 14th over.

The introduction of the two spinners has slowed down the scoring rate considerably. Watson albeit cuts loose with a boundary in Jadeja's third over.

Amit Mishra comes in for Ashwin (3-0-11-1) in the 18th over. He starts off with a one-run over.
14:24

Australia: 49-2 (13 overs)

Watson, having conceded a maiden to Shami, hits a boundary over midwicket off Kumar. He hits another in Shami's fifth over, a shot behind square that beats the third man.

Ravindra Jadeja replaces Kumar (5-0-15-1) in the attack in the 11th over. He concedes just a single.

It's a twin bowling change, R Ashwin replacing Shami (5-1-29-0) in the attack in the 12th over. The offie strikes first ball, getting past Finch's (20) defence.
13:59

Australia: 31-1 (7 overs)

Shami's third over is an expensive one with Finch hitting three successive boundaries as 13 come off the over.

Bhuvneshwar concedes his first boundary in his fourth over, Hughes (13)  hitting a good shot. However, in an attempting a repeat in the same ball, the batsman only succeeds in hitting it straight to Virat Kohli at square leg.

Shane Watson is the new batsman in.
13:46

Australia: 11-0 (4 overs)

Aaron Finch and Philip Hughes open the batting for Australia and it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar first up for India. Only one run from the over.

Mohammad Shami to bowl with the second new ball. Eight runs come off his first over with Hughes hitting successive boundaries.

Both the bowlers give away a single apiece in their second overs.
13:11
Arun Gopalakrishnan (@cricarun) points out that this is leg spinner Amit Mishra's first ODI in India, having played all his matches outside India before this one.

"Amit Mishra playing his first ODI in India. All his 20 previous ODIs have been out of India," he writes on Twitter.
13:10
Check out how the two teams line-up for today's match:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami.

Australia: George Bailey (captain), Aaron Finch, Phil Hughes, Shane Watson, Adam Voges, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Clint McKay, Xavier Doherty.
13:07
Interestingly, India have brought in the extra spinner in the form of leggie Amit Mishra in place of a seam bowler with the pitch expected to help the slow bowlers.

India's major concern is the bowling especially in the middle overs where they have leaked a lot of runs. Their part-time spinners have also failed to make an impression, forcing Dhoni to bring in the specialist spinner to stem the flow of runs in the middle part of the innings.
13:04
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia in the sixth One-Day International in Nagpur, on Wednesday.

It is a do-or-die match for India, who are trailing 2-1 in the seven-match series, after the last two games in Ranchi and Cuttack were washed out.

India made two changes to their team bringing in leg-spinner Amit Mishra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in place of R Vinay Kumar and Jaydev Unadkat.

Meanwhile, Australia opted to retain the same team.

After the match, Tendulkar says it was the ideal practice for him ahead of the two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting in Kolkata on November 6.

"Haryana played good cricket, and full credit to them for their showing. It was competitive match, and a good challenge. It was a challenging wicket, had a lot for bowlers, was fun to bat here. This is just the kind of outing I was looking for," Tendulkar said after the match.

The master batsman said he is looking forward to the West Indies Test series, after which he will retire from cricket.

"It will be a good series. West Indies are a good side, I am looking forward to my last couple of Test matches. I am looking to play some good cricket and finish on a high," he added.

Tendulkar pointed out that 240 was not an easy chase since the pitch had something for the bowlers while the outfield was on the slower side.

"It was a challenging wicket. We had to apply ourselves. 240 was a big total to chase, outfield was a little bit on the slower side, although it was it looked like 280 to chase."

What a way to end his career in domestic cricket! A match-winning half-century to lift Mumbai to a hard-earned victory.

Tendulkar was not at his fluent best, but battled hard for his wonderful innings of 79 from 175 balls, hitting just six boundaries, as he looked to deal in singles and twos and avoid the risks.

He played a crucial role in the partnership with Kulkarni, who made 16 from 72 balls, as the duo were involved in an unbroken stand of 50 runs from 23.3 overs.

A change of tactics for Mohit Sharma as he decides to switch to round the wicket, to Tendulkar.

The first ball is a bit short and it slants across Tendulkar, who watches it go through to the keeper. He clips the next ball off his hips to fine leg region for a single.

Kulkarni plays an awkward upper cut against Mohit, who bowled it short and wide but it goes over the slips for two runs.

Mumbai just a hit away from victory, with four runs needed now.

Kulkarni ends it in style as he drives a full delivery down the ground for a boundary.

The next ball is again short but it does not rise much and Kulkarni gets behind it and defends with a straight bat.

Kulkarni is showing good resolve and battled patiently since the morning session in the face of some testing bowling by the Haryana seamers.

Mumbai in no hurry as they crawl their way towards victory with some slow but assured batting, especially by Tendulkar.

Tendulkar having some trouble with the incoming deliveries. This time Patel gets one to come in sharply as Tendulkar offers no shot but it has struck him high and the LBW appeal is again turned down.

The last ball is a quick bouncer which Tendulkar ducks under and it is called a no-ball for height. The Haryana fielders especially captain Jadeja are not happy with the call but replays show that the ball was clearly way above the batsman.

The next ball is again short and Tendulkar sways out of the way as Haryana's ploy of denying him a single from the last ball works.

Patel has a huge appeal for LBW turned down as Tendulkar had a big stride forward and the impact was just outside the off-stump.

Umpire K Barathan made a good call on that occasion.

Patel loses shape with the next delivery and slips it way down the leg side and keeper Saini is late to come down to it. Mumbai get two leg byes in the process to inch closer, with 25 more needed for victory.

Tendulkar is again struck on the pads as he looks to play across the line and misses but again the umpire is not convinced.
