IPL updates! Kings XI thrash KKR by 23 runs to maintain unbeaten run

A clinical bowling performance from Kings XI Punjab helped them maintain their unbeaten run in the IPL as they beat KKR by 23 runs.

After being restricted to 132 runs, Kings XI led by Mitchell Johnson and Sandeep Sharma bundled out KKR for 109.

Such was the display that only Suryakumar Yadav managed to put up some fight with 34.

Kings XI bowlers have held tight leash on Kolkata innings, who have lost their way in the chase. 

The latest being Sunil Narine, who was cleaned up by Mitchell Johnson for 6.

At the end of 16 overs, KKR were 85-8, still requiring 48 runs off 24 balls.

KKR seem to have changed strategy here as Manish Pandey will open the innings Jacques Kallis. 

The duo have already hit the boundary boards once and are looking to give KKR a steady start. 

As we speak, Sandeep Sharma has provided the breakthrough for Kings XI removing Manish Pandey for 8. 

Pandey was dismissed playing down the wrong line and was adjudged LBW.

KKR were 13-1 after 3 overs.

Spin twins Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine picked up six wickets between them to restrict Kings XI Punjab to 132-9

Chawla picked up 3-19, while Narine was a touch expensive by his standards with figures of 3-24.

Kings XI Punjab with their powerful batting line-up failed collectively with Virender Sehwag being the top scorer with 37.

Piyush Chawla strikes two crucial blow for KKR. What worse for Kings XI is the fact that two set batsmen are back in the pavillion.

Chawla, first removes Bailey as he tries to hit the leg-spinner straight over his head, only to find Morkel. 

Bailey was back in the hut for 11 

Then Chawla catches the big fish Virender Sehwag, who was done in by a googly and was bowled through his gates. 

Sehwag was dismissed for 37. 

Kings XI were 103-6 after 14 overs.

Miller chipped down the track and flicked a googly, only to hit it to Morne Morkel at deep midwicket. 

Kings XI are now in a spot of bother now as they were 76-4.

Sehwag tries to give himself a bit of room misses the ball. 

A brilliant yorker from Morkel as Viru digs it out for a single.

Saha, who took the attack to the opposition was caught right in front of his stumps.

Morne Morkel now into the attack and bowls a snorter to Pujara. Morkel's delivery catches the gloves of Pujara and is caught by Robin Uthappa. 

Umpires decide to check on no-ball and replays show that Morkel had overstepped. 

However, Pujara's luck finally runs out as he was run out at the strikers end courtesy of a brilliance from Manish Pandey. 

Kings XI were 9-1 after 2 overs.

Welcome to the update of the second game of the day between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore have just been handed a rather embarrassing defeat after being shot out for 70 against Rajasthan Royals.

The news from the middle is that Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and have elected to bowl first. 

KKR have made one change to their side, bringing in Piyush Chawla, in place of Vinay Kumar.

Bangalore: 70 (15 overs)

A massive six straight down the ground by Watson, in Chahal's second over, takes Rajasthan past the 50-run mark. 

The Rajasthan captain helps himself to another six in Chahal's third over. However, a loose shot in the next ball costs Watson (24) his wicket, AB de Villiers taking a comfortable catch.

Stuart Binny comes in and finishes off things with three runs of the first ball he faces. 

Rajasthan win by six wickets, with seven overs to spare. 

It is the second lowest match aggregate ever in the IPL.

Bangalore: 70 (15 overs)

Mitchell Starc will bowl out. He strikes third ball, having Karun Nair (8) caught behind. 

Shane Watson is the new batsman in. He starts with a beautiful straight drive. Starc ends with figures of two for 29 to take sole possession of the purple cap. 

Ravi Rampaul also bowls four on the trot and finishes with decent figures (4-0-16-0). 

Yuzvendra Chahal is the first bowling change, replacing Starc is the ninth over. It's a maiden first up from him. 

Ashok Dinda replaces Rampaul in the next over. Just two runs off it.

Starc is given an extra over and justifies his captain's faith by having Rahane (23) caught behind. 

Sanju Samson is the new batsman at the crease. He is run out for two.

Bangalore: 70 (15 overs)

Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair open the batting for Rajasthan while it will be Mitchell Starc first up for Bangalore. 11 runs come off the first over, with Rahane finding the fence twice. 

Ravi Rampaul to bowl for the first time in this tournament. Just two runs of his first over.

Rahane is making it even easier for Rajasthan. Two more boundaries come off his blade in Starc's second over.

Kane Richardson has finished his spell, with impressive figures of two for 18. 

Rajat Bhatia replaces him in the attack in the 14th over. He gets a wicket of his sixth ball, a billiant one-handed catch by Stuart Binny cutting short Starc's (18) stay at the crease. 

Rampaul hits the first six of the Bangalore innings in the 15th over, bowled by Tambe. However, the bowler hits back in the next ball, having Rampaul (13) caught by Southee at cover.

And Tambe finishes with 4-20, by having Dinda out leg before off his final delivery.

Bangalore bowled out for a paltry 70, with five of their overs left to play.

Kohli hits a lovely cover drive in the first ball after resumption. The first ball of Southee's next over is also disptached to the deep square leg fence. Mitchell Starc has joined him at the crease. 

He gets into the act with a boundary off Southee. 

However, Tambe takes the most vital wicket in his second over, having Kohli (21) caught by Southee at midwicket.

Bangalore: 28-6 (8.4 overs)

Shane Watson replaces Tim Southee (2-0-5-0) in the attack in the sixth over. He strikes with his second legal delivery, Rana (3) chops it onto his stumps. 

Half the Bangalore side is back in the pavilion with more than half the overs left. 

Albie Morkel joins his captain at the crease with a lot of work to be done if Bangalore are to make something out of this match.  

Pravin Tambe, the leg spinner, replaces Richardson (3-0-14-2) in the attack in the ninth over. He strikes with his fourth ball, having Morkel (7) caught by Steve Smith. The first strategic time out is taken.

Yuvraj Kohli joins his captain at the crease, with Bangalore in a spot of bother. Tim Southee to bowl the second over. He gives away three runs first up. 

Kane Richardson to bowl the third over. He strikes first ball, having Yuvraj (3) caught by Steven Smith at second slip. 

Richardson's second ball also fetches him a wicket, AB de Villiers (0) chopping it onto his stumps. 

Sachin Rana survives the hat-trick ball.

Stuart Binny opens the bowling for Rajasthan while it is Parthiv Patel and Yogesh Takawale first up for Bangalore. 

Binny strikes with his fourth ball, having Takawale (0) caught behind. 

Skipper Virat Kohli is the new batsman in. However, Parthiv Patel (1) is run out in the next ball. 

Rajasthan have struck twice in the first over.

Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and invited Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat first in their Indian Premier League match in Abu Dhabi. 

Rajasthan go in with two changes, Karun Nair coming in for Dhawal Kulkarni and Kane Richardson replacing James Faulkner.

Bangalore too have made two changes. Ravi Rampaul and Sachin Rana replace Varun Aaron and Muralitharan.
