Lyon gets it to turn big going past the defensive push of Karn off successive deliveries, who is lucky to survive that over.

Shami cannot resist going for the big hit, throws his bat at Harris, which spoons on the off-side for a simple catch.

Shami is dismissed for five to reduce India to 309 for eight in the 90th over. That was a needless shot under the circumstances as India continue to slip.

Two singles from the first four deliveries from Siddle before Kohli punches it through the covers for three runs to keep the scoreboard moving and keep the target within reach.

Magnificent batting from Kohli, hitting Lyon against the spin out of the rough for a four through the covers. He gets a leading edge off the next ball but it falls safely on the off-side for one.

Saha is not going to hold back either as he lofts Lyon back over his head for a six. That came out of nowhere.

He is on the charge as he sweeps the next ball square for a boundary to bring the equation further down.

Saha comes down again looking for another big hit but is beaten and is bowled for 13. That was a poor shot under the circumstances.

Lyon completes his five-wicket haul to complete 10 wickets in the match.

He takes two runs from the last ball to make it 11 runs from the over.

Rohit fails with the bat as he gloves a turning delivery from Lyon it to leg slip to be dismissed for six. That's a big wicket as it exposes the Indian lower order with the new ball two overs away.

 India 2nd inns: 259-4 (75 ovs); Target: 364 | Scorecard

Kohli is India's last hope as far as winning the match is concerned. Kohli clips the first ball from Harris square on the leg side for two runs and then drives the next through covers for the same result. He plays a splendid drive through the covers off the last ball for a boundary to get eight runs from the over.

Rohit Sharma is desperate to get off the mark. He sweeps the first ball from Lyon but hits the short leg fielder as the ball pops up in the air briefly but wicketkeeper Haddin can't get to it. He attempts the sweep against off the third ball but misses and this time there is a huge appeal for LBW which is turned down.

He takes a quick single on the off-side to complete his second century in the match, his third at this ground. This is Kohli's eighth Test century and it took 135 balls, having 10 fours and a six.

Kohli is the first Indian to score a century in each innings in Australia and has paved the way for his team to push for an unlikely victory.

However, disaster strikes India in the next over as Vijay is trapped leg before wicket for 99. He went back a long way to play it on the leg side but missed and was struck right in front of the stumps.

He has put India in the driver's seat, putting on 185 runs for the third wicket with his captain Kohli.

Ajinkya Rahane started nervously against Lyon in the first innings before going on to hit a half-century. But this time, he lasts just five deliveries before he is caught at short leg for a duck. Once again a poor decision from umpire Erasmus as the ball nowhere close to the bat and went off the pads to the fielder at short leg.

A double wicket maiden for Lyon, who now has three for 116 in 26 overs.

That will hurt India's chances big time of pushing for victory.

Umpire Erasmus might have erred again if you go by the Hawkeye which shows that the ball would have hit the top of middle stump.

Six runs from the first over of the session before Ryan Harris is called back for another spell.

Harris getting a lot of reverse swing but Vijay is very watchfully and rightly so since he is starting after a break and wants to get his eye in again.

Kohli and Vijay have batted magnificently, scoring 82 and 85 respectively, having put on 148 runs for the third wicket so far.

Three deliveries from round the wicket which Vijay is happy to defend before the pacer switches to over the wicket.

Part-timer Smith comes back. He starts with a full toss which Vijay despatches through midwicket for a four. Three balls later, he flicks it again through midwicket for another boundary to move into the 80s.

India's positive approach has also ensured that they stay in the hunt for an unlikely victory in the Test match.

Vijay skips down the track and lofts him over mid-on for a four before he sweeps him fine for a couple in an over which produces nine runs for the Indians.

Australia are definitely worried with a couple of fielders pushed in the deep on the leg side. Kohli flicks the first ball of Harris's new over to deep square leg for a single.

Peter Siddle replaces Lyon, who has so far taken one for 91 in 21 overs, going at well over four runs per over. The last ball goes for four leg byes as Vijay misses the flick but it deflects off his pads fine on the leg side.

08:56
 India 2nd inns: 144-2 (44 ovs); Target: 364 | Scorecard

Mitchell Marsh comes into the attack. Vijay picks a single from the last ball before Kohli gets two runs from the next ball to midwicket from the next delivery followed by a single from the fourth ball.

Kohli has not hardly defended against Lyon, looking to play it late and with the turn. He turns the fourth ball to midwicket for a single before Vijay comes down the track but is forced to defend. He has been quite assured with his footwork especially while defending against the off-spinner.

Marsh getting some reverse swing as Kohli plays out a maiden over. Some drama in the next over from Lyon as Michael Clarke runs across to stop a quick single but pulls with an injury.

He is hobbling off the field in obvious pain in his right leg and that is not good signs for Australia, looking ahead at the series.

Lyon drops short and Vijay hits it behind point for a boundary before he survives another close shout for LBW. Umpire Marais Erasmus in the the thick of action as Vijay offered no shot and Lyon went on and on with the appeal. Another close for Vijay, who is batting on 64.

 India 2nd inns: 57-1 (18 ovs); Target: 364 | Scorecard

Vijay comes down the track and hits Lyon over midwicket for a six. However, the right-hander survives a close shout for LBW off the very next delivery.

Vijay shouldered arms to a full delivery and looked plumb in front of the stumps but umpire Gould turned down the appeal after a long thought. That was hitting middle and Shane Warne is shocked at that appeal being turned down.

But umpire Gould has made up as far as India are concerned with Dhawan getting a poor decision while Vijay surviving a horror decision.

Pujara is still having troubles dealing with Lyon, who is still getting a lot of help from the rough. One bounces extra which hits Pujara hits the gloves before another one spins big, hitting him on the pads, but another huge LBW appeal is turned down.

Spin is introduced early as Nathan Lyon is brought in to bowl the eighth over. Vijay plays a risky sweep shot which goes fine for a couple, he tries it again two balls later but is unable to make clean connection.

Double bowling change for Australia as Peter Siddle replaces Johnson, after a good testing first spell one for four in four overs.

Lyon gets extra bounce as Pujara gloves it on the leg side where the leg slip might have been and the fielder is called in after that shot. Lot of chatter from the Australian close-in fielders and even more appeals with every Lyon delivery as Pujara looks to keep his bat away as much as possible.
05:31
 India 2nd inns: 18-1 (5 ovs); Target: 364 | Scorecard

Dhawan gets the first boundary of the innings in streaky fashion as he inside edges Harris trying to drive through the off-side.

Johnson strikes the first blow for India with the wicket of Dhawan, who is caught down the leg side off a short ball for nine.
