Asia Cup Updates: Kohli, Rahane guide India to victory

A brilliant 136 from skipper Virat Kohli and a 73 from Ajinkya Rahane have helped India register six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second match of the Asia Cup. 

Kohli came in after India had lost Shikhar Dhawan after the visitors were off the decent start. 

Kohli made his intentions clear with a boundary off Rubel Hossain towards midwicket. 

Kohli along with Rahane played risk-free cricket and with the dew setting in Bangaldesh spinners were unable to grip the ball and scoring at will. 

India reached the target with one over to spare.

Virat Kohli is finally dismissed for 136 -- castled by Rubel with just 13 runs required for a convincing win. 

A tired shot in the end, but Bangladesh too not too keen on much celebrations as the match is pretty much out of their hands. 

It also ended a match-winning partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Kohli of 213 runs for thrid wicket. 

India require 12 runs off 24 balls.

Virat Kohli has suddenly exploded in the batting Powerplay as he getting boundaries at will.

Kohli hit consecutive boundaries off Abdur Razzaq and then crashed one straight past the Rubel Hossain in the next over. 

The duo have added 183 runs stand for third wicket. 

India at the end of 42 overs were 237-2. Kohli is on 126, while Rahane is on 53.

Ajinkya Rahane quietly has made a mark for himself with a well-deserved half-century. 

Rahane who played the second fiddle to Virat Kohli who stroked his way to 19th ODI century, reached the landmark with a boundary off Rubel Hossain. 

But as we speak, a chance has been created with Rahane hitting one to Nasir Hussain who is not sure. 

Billy Bowden refers back to TV umpire. Replays shows that the ball might have bounced before the fielder took the catch. 

India were 217-2 after 40 overs.

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are driving India's chase in the game and are looking much more comfortable now. 

What's working in visitors' favour is that they still have wickets in hand and bowling not looking threatening. 

As we speak Kohli has completed his 19 ODI century courtesy off a single of Mashrafe Mortaza. 

Kohli's 95-ball knock consisted of 12 hits to fence and a six.

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have combined well for India putting on a 72 runs stand to keep India in the chase. 

Kohli is going strong with yet another half-century to his name is proving to the main anchor for India. 

Rahane looks confident after his century in the Test series against New Zealand.

Bangladesh have kept Indian batsmen quite, especially left-arm spinner Abdur Razzaq, who has created few doubts in batsmen's mind.

Abdur Razzaq strikes the first blow as he removes Shikhar Dhawan for 28. 

Dhawan looking to sweep the ball, missed the line and was caught plumb in front of the stumps. 

Virat Kohli got off the mark with a single through long off. 

Earlier, Indian openers put on a 50-runs stand for the opening wicket.

India at the end of 12 overs were 51-1. Rohit Sharma is on 20, while Kohli is on 1.

Shikhar Dhawan has started to open up for India after a slow start in the first five overs.

Dhawan hit the boundary boards off Mashrafe Mortaza with a typical shot -- chipping down the track and slapping it past point. 

The left-hander then took the attack to Rubel Hossain, who was guilty of bowling on both sides of the wicket. 

Hossain did manage to disturb Dhawan's stumps -- but off a free-hit. 

India at the end of 9 overs were 33-0. Dhawan is on 21, while Rohit is on 10

Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are off to a cautious start in the chase. 

Bangladesh bowlers too have been pretty tight with their line and length with two maidens already bowled in space of five overs. 

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim have kept the field too intelligently not allowing openers to pierce the gap. 

At the end of 5 overs India were 11-0.

Rubel Hossain runs in now after Mashrafe Mortaza bowled a brilliant first over. 

First up is right on the money. Hossain has been consistent with his line and length to finish the over with a maiden.

Riding high on a brilliant 113-ball 117 from skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh finished with 279-7 after being put in to bat by India in the second match of the Asia Cup. 

Bangladesh got off to a cautious start before losing two quick wickets. However a century stand between Anamul Haque and Mushfiqur put the hosts back on track. 

Haque was dismissed for a well-made 77, before the skipper took over and turned the heat on Indian bowlers. 

The Indians struggled on a flat deck.

Varun Aaron was barred from bowling after bowling two waist-high full-tosses. 

Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 4-50 from his 10 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim registered his second ODI hundred in perfect batting conditions and poor bowling attack here at the Asia Cup against India. 

Rahim who came in at fall of Mominul Haque, took his time in the middle before opening up and punishing Indian bowlers who looked off colour on a flat deck. 

Rahim reached the milestone courtesy off an overthrow from Bhuveneshwar Kumar who was fielding at mid off. 

In between that Mohammad Shami, who has been the most impressive of the Indian bowlers removed Naeem Isam and Nasir Hossain in consecutive overs. 

At the end of 46 voers Bangladesh were 242-5.

Mushfiqur Rahim is playing a skippers role here with a brilliant counter-attacking cricket. 

Not showing signs of any pain after being hit by Varun Aaron in his ribs, Rahim has looked more dangerous since then. 

Naeem Islam promoted up the order is playing his part too as the duo have added 45 runs from six overs so far.

The hosts' skipper is nine runs shy from a deserved century. 

At the end of 43 overs Bangladesh were 227-3.

Bangladesh take the batting Powerplay with two set batsmen at crease.

Anamul Haque continues to be aggressive against Varun Aaron as he creams couple of boundaries in his comeback spell. 

Aaron is clearly struggling with his line and length by bowling both sides of wicket. 

With singles on offer, Bangladesh batsmen are more than happy to take advantage of deep field setting by Kohli. 


Aaron finally has something to cheer about as he castles Haque for 77. Replays show that Haque's stay in the middle by an inside edge back onto his leg stump. 

Haque-Rahim added 133 for third wicket. 

At the end of 37 overs, Bangladesh were 182-3. Rahim is on 63.

Riding high on a century stand between Anamul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim Bangladesh are turning the heat on India. 


The hosts have benefited from poor bowling and fielding in the middle overs from India, who are looking lost in the field. 

Skipper Virat Kohli has opted for part-timer Ambati Rayudu, when he could have gone in Rohit Sharma.

Rahim completed his half-century with a single off Kohli as India struggled to keep the run flow down.

At the end of 32 overs Bangladesh were 152-2. Haque is on 61, while Rahim is on 50.

Anamul Haque's counter-attacking cricket has steadied the ship for Bangladesh. 

Haque was particularly severe on Varun Aaron, who was struggling with line and length. The Bangladesh opener smoked two massive sixes off Indian seamer to make his intentions clear. 

Haque then reached to his landmark with another maximum off Ashwin.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is giving him good company with a fighting 21.

India's back up bowlers have struggled on a flat deck as Bangladesh were 112-2 after 24 overs.

Indian new ball bowlers have kept things tight with both Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar creating opportunities.


Bangladesh should have lost two to three wickets had it not been for couple of wasted chances.

Bhuvi tested Haque with couple of short deliveries -- one that fell perilously close to Shami at third man. 

As we speak, Haque whips one through leg side for a couple. 

At the end of 11 overs, Bangladesh were 40-1. Mominul Haque is on 14, while Anamul Haque is on 18.

Mohammad Shami strikes the first blow as he removes Shamsur Rahman off his own bowling.

Rahman was surprised by a short ball -- tried to whip it through legside only to get a top edge towards cover.

Bangladesh are off to a steady start after being put in by India. Openers Anamul Haque and Shamsur Rahman have already managed to hit the boundary boards. 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar did manage to create and opportunity only to be let go off between the first and second slips in the opening over. 

Rahman drove one crisply through covers to make his point on a flat deck. 

At the end of 4 overs Bangladesh were 16-0.
