Hamilton ODI Live! Classy Taylor takes New Zealand to series win

Timeline  Refresh

13:56

New Zealand: 280-3 (48.1 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Jadeja ends a good albeit wicketless spell (10-2-33-0). Meanwhile, the Indian quicks are getting a pasting.

Bhuvneshwar's (10-0-62-0) ordeal is over. But Shami and Aaron continue to suffer even as McCullum is finally showing some form.

On 42, he gets a reprieve thanks a confusion between Jadeja and Rayudu.

The New Zealand captain seals it with a six, off Aaron, with 11 balls to spare.

The home team win the series 3-1, with one game left to play.

Taylor remains unbeaten on 112 and McCullum 49, the two having added 92 runs in an unbroken fourth wicket stand.

So India is no longer the no.1 ODI side. The manner in which it is playing on sporting tracks abroad it doesn't deserve to be either.

Till the next game, adios amigos.
13:34

New Zealand: 240-3 (43 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Having looked totally off-colour at the start of his innings, McCullum suddenly gets into the thick of action with a six apiece off Kumar and Aaron.

A cracking boundary off Aaron takes Taylor to a well-deserved century, his ninth in ODIs. It also raises the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket.

New Zealand should win this comfortably from now on.
13:24

New Zealand: 219-3 (41 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

The batting powerplay starts in the 36th over. Ashwin goes for six in the first. The second, by Shami, costs India only three runs.

Ashwin's final over is worth just one run for New Zealand. The offie ends with figures of none for 41.

After three dull overs, Taylor smashes the first ball of Shami's seventh over to the fence. The hit helps NZ get past the 200-run mark. Three balls later, Taylor repeats the feat.

Kumar to bowl the final over of the powerplay. Five dots balls are followed by a last ball boundary as New Zealand manage just 24 in the five powerplay overs.

12:59

New Zealand: 188-3 (35 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

With each passing delivery Taylor and Williamson, New Zealand's two most consistent players in this series, are playing with increased confidence.

They have settled down quite well after a slow start and have now started taking the attack to the opposition. With the batting powerplay looming it is looking ominous for India.

However, just as we say this is that man who has done it again. Jadeja has run out Williamson (60) on his follow through.

Williamson's 82-ball knock was inclusive of two boundaries and an equal number of sixes. More importantly, he helped Taylor add 130 runs (off just 157 balls) for the third wicket.

Brendon McCullum, the captain, comes out to bat with his team needing a further 90-odd runs.
12:42

New Zealand: 167-2 (30 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Dhoni seems to have no clue about his bowlers. There have been random changes for far too long.

In the 29th over we have Shami replacing Aaron (4-0-24-1). He gives away eight runs including a last-ball boundary that takes Williamson to 49 and brings on the 100-run partnership for the third wicket.

Williamson completes his fourth straight fifty of the series, and 10th of his ODI career, with a single of Ashwin, who has replaced Rayudu (3-0-23-0) in the attack.
12:33

New Zealand: 150-2 (28 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Binny is taken off after just one over. And Ambati Rayudu is handed the ball. Both seem failed experiments.

And Dhoni goes back to Aaron. He goes for four runs in what is his third over.

Successive boundaries in Aaron's fourth over takes Taylor to 49. He duly completes his 27th ODI fifty with a single off Rayudu.
12:10

New Zealand: 113-2 (23 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

They might have started slowly but Taylor and Williamson are surely building in a partnership.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaces Jadeja (5-1-13-0) in the attack in the 21st over. It's a double bowling change, Stuart Binny replacing Ashwin (5-0-17-0).

The home side reaches the 100-run mark in the over, courtesy a single by Taylor, as eight runs come off it.

Williamson smashes Kumar for a six over mid-on to help raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket.
11:45

New Zealand: 82-2 (16 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Spin is introduced in the 11th over in the form of Ravindra Jadeja, who replaces Shami (4-0-27-1). He bowls a maiden first up.

It's spin from both ends as R Ashwin replaces Aaron (2-0-10-1) in the next over. He gives away four runs first up.

The double blow had expectedly slowed down the New Zealand innings.

11:25

New Zealand: 59-2 (9 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Change of ends for Shami. He replaces Kumar (4-0-28-0). The move works as Shami has Guptill (35) out leg before first ball.

Guptill's 27-ball knock was inclusive of six boundaries and a six. New Zealand have lost both their openers in the space of six balls and things are looking up for India.

Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are the two new batsmen at the crease.
11:19

New Zealand: 58-1 (8 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

The two kiwi openers continue their aggressive ways as the Indian new ball pair willingly leaks runs.

Guptill helps himself to successive boundaries, on either side of the wicket, in Shami's third over.

In Kumar's fourth over, the seventh of the innings, Guptill hits a boundary followed by a huge six over wide long-on to help his team get past the 50-run mark.

The NZ openers have forced an early bowling change. Varun Aaron replaces an expensive Shami (3-0-26-0).

He strikes second ball, Ryder (19) playing onto his stumps yet again. NZ lose their first wicket for 54.
10:57

New Zealand: 24-0 (3 overs)
India: 278-5 (50 overs)

Jesse Ryder and Martin Guptill open the batting for New Zealand and it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar first up for India.

Guptill hits a couple of boundaries as eight runs come off the over. Mohammad Shami to bowl with the second new ball. Ryder gets his first boundary in the over, to the third man.

Two balls later, he repeats the feat on the leg side. Ditto for the fifth ball.

Guptill smashes the first ball of Kumar's second over through point for his third boundary.
10:06

India: 278-5 (50 overs)

A boundary off Bennett in the 48th over helps Jadeja complete a second successive fifty, his eighth in ODIs. Another boundary by Jadeja in the over helps India get past the 250-run mark.

The shot also helps complete the 100-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Mills ends with impressive figures of one for 42. He and Southee have been the pick of the New Zealand bowlers today, while Bennett and Neesham have made them suffer.

Neesham to bowl the final over.

Dhoni remains unbeaten on 79 and Jadeja on 62, the two having been involved in a 126-run stand for the sixth wicket, one that has helped India post a competitive total (278 for five).
09:42

India: 231-5 (46 overs)

Bennett's eighth is an expensive over for New Zealand, 15 runs coming off it with Jadeja hitting a boundary in front of square followed by a six over mid-off, the latter helping India reach the 200-run mark.

Mills is back into the attack in the 43rd over. A couple by Dhoni off his second ball helps raise the 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

However, it is his partner Jadeja who seems to have found his touch. After his exploits in Auckland, he's carrying forward his good work.

Dhoni smashes Neesham straight back to the fence to complete his third fifty of the series, his 54th in ODIs.
09:19

India: 185-5 (41 overs)

Ravindra Jadeja is the new batsman.

The batting powerplay is taken in the 36th over. Southee bowls a good first over, giving away just three runs. India manage only four runs in the second bowled by McCullum.

Ten runs come off Southee's (10-1-36-2) final over but McCullum gives away just two in his lasy (10-0-44-0).

Bennett bowls the final over of the period and gives away five runs. India manage only 24 runs in the batting powerplay. More importantly, they don't lose a wicket.
08:48

India: 151-5 (33.1 overs)

Kane Williamson replaces McCullum (7-0-35-0) in the attack in the 31st over and Dhoni welcomes him with a huge six over midwicket.

Southee replaces an expensive Bennett (6-0-30-1) in the 32nd over. The plan boomerangs as Rohit first hits him for a six over extra cover and follows it up with a boundary.

However, in the very next over, Williamson has Rohit (79) caught behind. The batsman's 94-ball innings was inclusive of six hits to the fence and four over it.

Ashwin is the new batsman in. He starts off with a boundary. India reach the 150-run mark in the over.

However, Southee strikes in the next over having Ashwin (5) caught by Bennett at thirdman. India has lost two quick wickets just ahead of the batting powerplay.
08:45

India: 151-4 (33 overs)

08:26

India: 118-3 (29 overs)

Just when the legendary Sunil Gavaskar says  'Rayudu is looking comfortable at the crease' the batsman skies a Neesham delivery and Ronchi makes no mistake.

Rayudu's 58-ball 37 was inclusive of three boundaries and a couple of sixes and he helped Rohit add a valuable 79 runs for the third wicket.

MS Dhoni is the new batsman in.
08:10

India: 100-2 (25 overs)

The Indian team is still scoring at just three runs per over. Not something that Dhoni would have expected when he opted to have a bat first.

McCullum's third over is an expensive one, 11 runs coming off it, with Rayudu hitting a six off the first.

A single by Rayudu in the next over helps raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket, exactly what the visitors needed having lost two early wickets.

Rayudu (on 30) almost gets himself out to a rash shot. Thankfully for him the ball stops short of the third man fielder. A huge six off Neesham helps Rohit complete his 21st ODI fifty. He celebrates the same with a boundary to third man.

A six by Rayudu off McCullum helps India get to the 100-run mark in the 25th over.
07:49

India: 56-2 (18 overs)

Bennett, one of New Zealand's best bowlers in the tied game in Auckland, has so far failed to make an impact today. Hhis third over sees Rayudu helping himself to a couple of boundaries.

Jimmy Neesham replaces Bennett (3-0-20-0) in the attack in the 16th over. He gives away just a single first up.

Nathan McCullum replaces Southee (6-0-12-1) in the attack in the 17th over. A single by Rohit off his second ball helps India reach the 50-run mark.

Rohit and Rayudu are on the right track, having add 30-plus for the third wicket so far.
07:23

India: 38-2 (12 overs)

The pressure finally tells as Rahane hits a Mills delivery straight to Southee at long leg.

India lose their second wicket with just 22 runs on the board. Ambati Rayudu is the new batsman in with his team in trouble.

Hamish Bennett replaces Southee (4-0-10-1) in the attack in the 10th over. Rayudu welcomes him with a boundary through square leg.

In his second over Rohit (dropped on 14 by Taylor at first slip) smashes him for a six.
07:05

India: 21-1 (8 overs)

So India's ploy of moving Kohli from his preferred no.3 position backfired. Why was Rahane not allowed to open.

India is making progress at a snail's pace at the moment. Mills has already bowled two maidens and the first six overs of the Indian innings has seen no boundaries being hit. The frustration is showing.

A mishit from Rohit, who has been fortunate on two occasions so far, lands past the fence, the first six of the innings, rather the first boundary of the innings.
06:47

India: 6-1 (4 overs)

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli open the batting for India and it will be Kyle Mills first up for New Zealand. It's a maiden from NZ's most experienced bowler.

Tim Southee to bowl with the second new ball. He gives away just a single.

Kohli's (2) stint at opening the batting ends early as Southee has him caught by Neesham at midwicket in his second over.

Ajinkya Rahane is the new batsman in.
