Eng 387-9 (113 ovs) vs India 457 | Scorecard

The partnership between Root and Anderson is now England's record 10th wicket stand against India, beating the previous best of 70 by Paul Allott and Bob Willis at Lord's in 1982.

Root comes down the track to Bhuvneshwar and drives him through the covers for a couple before he pulls a short ball behind square on the leg side for a four.

Root throws his bat a wide full delivery from Ishant but gets a thick outside edge which flies past the first slip fielder for a four to take the right-hander into the 90s.

He attempts a suicidal single off the last ball, hits to mid-on and sets off for the run but Shami can't hit the stumps to give Root a lifeline.

Mohammed Shami comes into the attack. The fifth ball is over-pitched and Root plays the perfect cover drive off the front foot for a delightful boundary.

He hits the next ball between point and covers for another four to complete his century, from 186 balls. This is Root's fourth Test century in 18 matches and has played a big part in rescuing England after the middle order collapse on Day 3.
