3rd Test India end Day Four on 112 for four, England on top

However, it is Moeen Ali who is proving to be thorn in India's flesh. In his ninth over he has Kohli (28) caught behind. 

Rohit Sharma is the new man in. He opens his account with a single.

Dhawan and Kohli are putting together a good little partnership here. They need to survive the day. 

Joe Root replaces Moeen Ali (7-1-22-1) in the attack in the 27th over. And Cook's gamble works wonderfully well. 

Root has Dhawan (37) caught by Jordan at slip. Dhawan made his highest score of the series and helped Kohli add 51 for the third wicket. 

However, he will be disappointed to have frittered away a good start. England get their third success in the 30th over.

Ajinkya Rahane is the new man in.

Dhawan (on 20) survives aloud leg before shout off Moeen in the latter's third over. 

He's desperate to make an impression and save his place ahead of the next Test. He hits his fifth boundary off Woakes, a backfoot cover drive.

Four byes help India get past the 50-run mark, in the 21st over. Chris Jordan replaces Woakes (5-2-7-0) in the attack in the 22nd over. He gives away just a single.

India's negative approach costs them dear. Vijay (12) is needlessly run out by a Broad direct hit.

Root (56) perishes while trying to accelerate, bowled by Jadeja. 

His 41-ball innings was inclusive of nine hits to the fence and he helped his captain add 99 runs for the fourth wicket. 

Cook remains unbeaten on 70. 

England declare at 205 for four, setting India a target of 445 to win in four sessions. 

The home team scored 125 runs in the second session. It is for them to try and force a win now.

After starting cautiously, Root has suddenly put his foot on the accelerator. After two boundaries in Rohit Sharma's over, he hits to the square leg fence in Jadeja's 10th over, the shot helping England get past the 150-run mark. 

Another boundary in the over, this time by Cook, takes the lead past the 400-run mark. Root and Cook have added 50-plus for the fourth wicket.

Root smashes three boundaries in Kumar's 10th over to reach his sixth Test fifty in style, off just 38 balls.

The pace of England's innings has slackened considerably since Bell's departure. 

A boundary off Jadeja gives Cook his second fifty of the match, after his 95 in the first innings. 

It is the England captain's 37th Test fifty and its come at an important juncture. Root gets his first boundary in the next over from Rohit.

Bell's belligerence finally costs him his wicket, Jadeja having him out leg before. 

Bell's 21-ball 23 was inclusive of four boundaries. Joe Root is the new man in. 

A single by Cook, off Singh, takes the lead to 350.

Ian Bell is the new batsman in. He begins with successive boundaries off Pankaj Singh.

Jadeja continues and Bell smashes his second ball for his third boundary. The England batsman took a liking for the Indian bowler in the first innings and the admiration seems to be continuing. 

A boundary by Bell, off Singh, helps England get past the 100-run mark, in the 26th over.

Rohit Sharma is given the ball in the 15th over, replacing Kumar (7-0-34-1). Ballance smashes the fifth ball for a straight six as nine runs come off the over.

The shot also helps takes the English lead past the 300-run mark. 

It's a twin bowling change as Ravindra Jadeja replaces Shami (2-0-14-0) in the attack in the next over. Ballance has decided to cut loose, with a boundary apiece off Jadeja and Sharma. 

Murali Vijay gets a bowl in the 20th over. He gives away just a single.

Jadeja strikes in the final over before lunch, having Ballance (38) caught by Pujara at short leg. Ballance's 48-ball was inclusive of five hits to the fence and one over it and he helped his captain add 58 runs for the second wicket.

Ballance falls prey to another poor decision. The ball hit the thigh pad. 

Lunch is taken with England on 80 for two (20.5 overs), an overall lead of 319.

It has to be said that England has dominated the 10th session as well.

India make the first bowling change in the 11th over, Mohammed Shami replacing Singh (5-3-5-0). 

Cook hits the third ball wide of third man to the fence. Ballance's first boundary comes in Kumar's seventh over, firmly placed through square. His second comes in the next ball, an exquisite straight drive past the bowler.

Cook smashes the first ball of Shami's second over to the midwicket fence. Another boundary by Ballance in the over helps England get past the 50-run mark - in the 14th over.

India bowled out for 330 (106.1 overs), 239 runs behind the English first innings total.
