Gul to bowl the 19th over. Raina tries to crash the first ball through the leg side but Hafeez is unable to hold on to a tough chance at short midwicket.

Raina pulls the next ball over midwicket for a six to level scores. He turns the next delivery fine on the leg side for a single to lift India to an easy victory.

That is a comprehensive seven-wicket victory for India to start their campaign in the World T20.

Raina finishes unbeaten on 35 from 28 balls, while Kohli made 36 from 32 balls as the duo put on an unbroken stand of 66 runs from 55 balls to guide their team to victory.

India will play West Indies in their next match, on Sunday, at 1900 IST.

Bhatti bowls a rank long hop which Raina pulls through midwicket for a boundary. Two balls later, he bowls a quick bouncer but Raina manages to keep the pull down and gets one to fine leg.

The left-hander is keen to continue his attacking approach. He lofts the last ball over long-on for his third boundary as Bhatti goes for 10 runs in that over.

Raina has raced to 17 from 10 balls, while Kohli is on 15 from 17 balls.

Suresh Raina gets off the mark with a single and two balls later he steers a wide delivery past point for a boundary.

Kohli flicks Ajmal to deep square leg for a single before Ajmal strikes with the wicket of Rohit. The right-hander looked to play the cut but the ball came in slightly taking the edge back on to his stumps.

Rohit is out for 24 from 21 balls as both the Indian openers are back in the hut.

Afridi starts with a wide down the leg side to new batsman Virat Kohli. He bowls four dot balls before slipping down another wide down the leg side and they get two extra runs in the process.

Kohli then steers the fifth ball behind point for a boundary to get off the mark in some style before taking one from the last ball.

Rohit is being very sensible with his shot selection. He defends the first ball from Gul before lofting the next ball over long-on for a huge six followed by a single to fine leg.

Dhawan then slaps the fifth ball past Gul and mid-on for his fifth boundary. But he throws his wicket away from the next ball, playing an awkward pull shot and holes out to the fielder on the fine leg boundary.

Dhawan walks back after scoring 30 from 28 balls, having hit five fours as India are reduced to 54 for one in eight overs.

A desperate Pakistan bring Umar Gul, their best bowler in the T20 format, into the attack.

Rohit gets an inside edge off the first ball and takes one on the off-side. Two dot balls before Dhawan cuts it high over point but it falls inside the boundary for two runs.

The last ball is slipping down the leg side which Dhawan flicks through the vacant fine leg region for a boundary.

India are well settled on 38 for no loss in six overs with Dhawan on 23 (24b) and Rohit on 15 (12b).

Hafeez has given just five runs in two overs but he makes away for Saeed Ajmal as Pakistan look for a breakthrough.

Dhawan is looking totally out of place as he is beaten off the first two deliveries trying to hit it through the off-side. He is on five from 15 balls. But he manages to break the shackles, playing the slog sweep for a boundary through midwicket.

He then pulls a short ball down the ground, beating the fielder at mid-on for another four. The left-hander then sweeps the last ball behind point for the third four of the over as India recover after a slow start to reach 31 for no loss in five overs.

Rohit decides to cut loose and release some pressure. He paddles the first ball from Junaid and gets it over the fine leg fielder for a boundary. He then comes down the track and chips it over the off-side for a six followed by a single to thirdman.

Off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez to bowl the first over as Rohit Sharma gets ready to take strike. He gets off the mark from the first ball with a single on the leg side.

Shikhar Dhawan is hit on the pads off the second ball but the LBW appeal is turned down with the ball looking to be sliding down the leg side. Two more dot balls before Dhawan takes a couple on the leg side as three runs come from the first over.

Superb bowling from the Indian spinners led by Mishra's two for 22 including 10 dot balls while Jadeja took one for 18 with 11 dot balls.

With Ashwin giving 23 runs in four overs, the three spinners registered combined figures of three for 63 in 12 overs.

Pakistan stumbled at the end, scoring 34 runs in the last five overs for the loss of four wickets.

Umar Akmal top-scored for Pakistan with a fluent 33 from 30 balls but the rest of the batsmen struggled to come to grips with the spinners on a wicket offering some assistance.

Maqsood takes on Shami as he launches the first ball, which is short, over long-off for a six. He pulls the next ball but can't beat the fielder and gets two runs courtesy of Kohli's poor throw from deep midwicket.

The third ball is a low full toss which Maqsood lofts over the bowler for a boundary before he takes a couple on the leg side.

Shami then beats the right-hander with a slower ball which is wide outside the off-stump. He drives the last ball to long-on and comes back for the second but is run out as Jadeja gets in a flat throw from the boundary.

Maqsood is run out for 21 from 11 balls as Pakistan finish on 130 for seven in 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar to bowl the 19th over. Afridi turns the first ball on the leg side for a boundary before Maqsood lofts the third ball back over the bowler's head for the same result.

But the pacer strikes with the key wicket of Afridi, who plays the sweep but holes out to deep square leg, where Raina takes his third catch of the innings.

Maqsood takes a single from the last ball as India come up with another good over in the death.

With just three overs to go, how much can Pakistan end up with?

Dhoni brings back his express pace bowler Shami back into the attack. Akmal looks to force the pace but ends up lofting it straight into the hands of Raina at long-off to fall for 33.

Afridi slaps the next ball to long-off for a single before new batsman Sohaib Maqsood gets a bouncer first up and he lets it go.

The last ball is a full toss but Maqsood hits it back to the bowler as just two runs come from the over.

India have made a strong comeback, taking two wickets for eight runs in three overs to leave Pakistan in trouble.

Excellent over from Jadeja, giving away just two singles. He finishes with wonderful figures of one for 18 in four overs.

Akmal turns Jadeja on the leg side and again they sprint between the wickets for a couple followed by a single.

Jadeja then bowls a big wide on the leg side as he tries to bowl the quicker one. Dhoni has a shy at the stumps but ends up conceding another extra run and then he applauds Jadeja for that delivery. Wonder why?

Akmal then hammers an over-pitched delivery through the covers and finds the gap to perfection for the second four of the over. He takes a single from the last ball to get 13 runs from Yuvraj's first over.

Hafeez tries to loft it fine on the leg side but misses it completely. He flicks the fifth ball through the vacant midwicket region for his first boundary.

The Pakistan captain takes two runs from the last ball to take the score to 34 for one after six overs.

Change of ends for Bhuvneshwar. The first ball is full and moves away as Shehzad has a wild swing at it but misses. The next ball slips down the leg side and is called a wide.

He has another go at the next delivery but gets an inside edge on the leg side for one. Hafeez defends the slower ball before he chips it over midwicket but gets only two runs and then takes one from the last ball to retain strike.

The first ball is outside the off-stump as Hafeez lets it go and sees some extra bounce on the way to the keeper. He is forced to defend the next ball which is again short of good length.

Hafeez picks one to point for one before Shehzad turns it to midwicket for the same result.

Hafeez defends the fifth ball before he gives Shami the charge off the last ball but is unable to get it away.

A good start from Shami, giving away two singles as Pakistan are struggling on 17 for one in four overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl the second over. Ahmed Shehzad gets off the mark with a single on the leg side before Akmal nearly drags the third ball on to his stumps as it hits his pads and falls on the off-side.

The fourth ball is short and wide and Akmal hits it through the off-side for his second boundary.

He taps the fifth ball on the off-side and sets for a quick single but Shehzad sends him back after starting off initially. Bhuvneshwar swoops in quickly on the ball and hits the stumps at the striker's end to run out Akmal for eight.

Pakistan nearly lose another wicket off the last ball as Shehzad comes down a for a quick run but Mohammed Hafeez has not moved. Shehzad sprints back and is short of his crease but the throw misses the stumps.

Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad to open the batting for Pakistan, while Dhoni makes a surprise move right at the start by getting in off-spinner R Ashwin to open the bowling.

Ashwin starts from round the wicket, first ball is full and on the pads which Akmal defends on the leg side and does the same with the next ball.

The third ball is short and Akmal pulls it behind square on the leg side for a boundary to get Pakistan off the mark.

18:42   India win toss, elect to bowl against Pakistan
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won the toss and elected to bowl against Pakistan.

A surprising decision considering India are playing three spinners in R Ashwin, Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja. But Dhoni says he took the decision to bowl considering the dew that will hamper the bowlers in the second half of the match.

Pakistan have three specialist pace bowlers in Junaid Khan, Umar Gul and Bilawal Bhatti. Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi are the two spinners, with a host of part-timers for company including the likes of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez.

It remains to be seen what combination India pick for this high-voltage clash. Will he include all-rounder Stuart Binny in place of a regular pacer to boost the batting? Or will he include a third spinner in Amit Mishra?

Also, will the struggling Rohit Sharma manage to keep his place in the team after a string of poor scores in the last few matches. He failed in both the warm-up matches too, against Sri Lanka and England.

Earlier, Netherlands pulled off a sensational run chase against Ireland to storm into the main round of the World T20. Having to score 190 in 14.2 overs, Netherlands romped home in 13.5 overs to secure their place in Group 1 where they are pitted against England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Hosts Bangladesh were stunned by Hong Kong in the qualifying round but their two convincing victories Afghanistan and Nepal saw them go through to the main round of the World T20 2014. They join former winners India, Pakistan, West Indies along with favourites in Group 2.

India will look to get off to a winning start when they clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening match of the main round of the World T20, in Dhaka, on Friday.

India are desperate to get back to winning ways following their poor performances in the Asia Cup, which came after poor showing in South Africa and New Zealand.

Both teams have won the tournament once, India triumphed in the inaugural edition in 2007, while Pakistan won in 2009.
