IPL Warner, Dhawan guide Sunrisers to 6 wkts win over Chennai

Riding on a superb 116-runs opening stand between Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned Chennai Super Kings by six wickets. 

Chasing a competitive 186 runs for victory, Sunrisers, particularly Warner was aggressive from the word go as the visitors wrapped up the game with two balls to spare.

While Warner hit a brilliant 45-ball 90, Shikhar Dhawan saw the team through with an unbeaten 64 from 49 balls.

There is no drop in run rate as far as Sunrisers Hyderbad are concerned as Naman Ojha and Shikhar Dhawan are continuing from where David Warner left off. 

Dhawan attacked Ravindra Jadeja, sending him into the stands, and then hitting him for a boundary. 

Ojha dispatched Pawan Negi into the crowd over the bowlers head. 

Dhawan meanwhile completed his half-century with a brace of Mohit Sharma. 

At the end of 16 overs Sunrisers were 157-1. Dhawan is on 48, while Ojha is on 15.

Warner looking to cut the ball, dragged it back on to his stumps. Naman Ojha who replaced Warner, got off the mark with a single.

Pawan Negi comes into the attack as David Warner welcomes him with a six.

Warner takes a single and gives the strike back to Shikhar Dhawan. 

Dhawan has been sedate in the chase, and is quite content with taking singles and giving the strike back to Warner. 

At the end of 11 overs, Sunrisers were 114-0. Warner is on 88, while Dhawan is on 22.

David Warner hit a 25-ball 50 to give Sunrisers an ideal start to the chase. 

Warner, who has had the maximum strike, latched on to John Hastings, getting 21 runs from his over, which included five hits to the fence. 

Dhawan has had less strike, but he hasn't had much to do considering Warner is going well. 

At the end of 7 overs, Sunrisers were 71-0. Warner is on 61, while Dhawan is on 9.

Dhawan helps himself to a single through mid-off.

Warner is on 34, while Dhawan is on 5.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are off to a positive start in the chase of 186. 

David Warner has looked aggressive from the word go. The left-hander got off the mark with a boundary off Mohit Shrama. 

He then straight drove Mohit for the second boundary off the over. 

Warner then attacked R Ashwin, smashing him for a massive six over his head. 

Sunrisers were 22-0 after 2 overs.

Riding high a brilliant 108-run stand between David Hussey and MS Dhoni revived Chennai innings to finish with  185-3.

Dwyane Smith started the innings in prime fashion, hitting a 28-ball 47, before Karn Sharma struck for Sunrisers.

David Hussey took his time in the middle as he stroked to a 33-ball 50 to guide Chennai to a decent total. 

Dhoni who was dropped by Aaron Finch, attacked Dale Steyn in the final over, hitting him for couple of sixes and couple of boundaries. 

Dhoni reached the his half-century with a six as he finished with 41-ball 57.

Karn Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-19.

Chennai Super Kings innings have lost the momentum, despite MS Dhoni in the middle. 

The medium and slow bowlers have put the breaks on scoring. 

But as we speak, Dhoni slaps Irfan Pathan over his head for a maximum.  David Hussey meanwhile steers one through third man for a boundary. 

At the end of 15 overs, Chennai were 117-3. Dhoni is on 18, while Hussey is on 25.

Smith who was looking dangerous in his 28-ball stay, was adjudged LBW to a quicker one from the leg-spinner.

Sunrisers gets lucky breakthrough as Faf du Plessis was run out for 11. 

Dwayne Smith hit one hard straight, but Karn Sharma managed to get faint tickle to have the stumps uprooted at the bowlers end. 

Replays showed that Faf was way out of his crease. Chennai were 34-1 after 4 overs.

First up is a perfect delivery from Bhuvi, right on the mark. 

Smith hits one the rise to help himself to a boundary to get off the mark. 

Smith then hits one straight past the bowler, misfield gives Smith second boundary. 

The Chennai opener rounds off the over with another scintillating boundary through point region.

Faf du Plessis too has found his boundary hitting spree as Chennai were off to a fast start

Chennai were 24-0 after 2 over. Smith and du Plessis both are on 12.

The news from the middle is that Sunrisers have won the toss and have elected to bowl first. 

Darren Sammy reckons the pitch is damp, hence the choice. Sunrisers are playing an unchanged side.

Bangalore finish on 165 for five in their 20 overs to lose by 30 runs and are knocked out of the running for a place in the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Kolkata advance to the play-offs with their eighth victory from 13 games and become the third team to advance after Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.

Vinay Kumar to bowl the final over. Starc gets two runs from the first ball before he hits the next for a four straight down the ground. But not much drama in the rest of the over as KKR cruise to their sixth victory in a row.

The match is as good as over as far as RCB is concerned and this defeat would also mean the end of the road for them.

Sachin Rana hits the third ball from Vinay Kumar through point for a four but is dropped off the next ball as the bowler fails to hold on to a tough chance.

Nine runs from the over take RCB to 142 for five in 18 overs with 54 needed from two overs for victory.

Narine to bowl his final over. Yuvraj decides to target the straight boundary but fails to get enough power on it and is caught at long-on after scoring 22 from 12 balls.

AB de Villiers falls off the last delivery as he looks to slog sweep but misses and is bowled for 13.

Narine has once again done the trick with the ball, registering superb figures of four for 20 in four overs.

RCB in complete disarray at 133 for five in 17 overs, with 63 needed from three overs for victory.

Pacer Umesh Yadav is back. The first ball is short which Yuvraj pulls over square leg for a six and then gets four leg byes from the next ball as he tries to flick it fine but misses.

The next ball is full and on the pads which Yuvraj flicks over the fine leg region for a six to make it 16 runs from three balls.

He finally gets one right, bowling a wide yorker outside the off-stump which Yuvraj misses. He tries a similar delivery but this time Yuvraj manages to edge it fine for another four. Yuvraj gets a couple from the last ball as 22 runs come from that over.

RCB are 128 for three in 16 overs, with 68 more runs needed from four overs for victory.

Shakib finishes his spell with another tidy over, giving away just seven runs, to finish with 27 runs from four overs. The match continues to slip from RCB's grasp, who need 96 runs from six overs for victory.

Morkel comes back as Gambhir decides to use his frontline bowlers way before the end, so as to finish off RCB's chances with some good overs.

Yuvraj (3) gets a lifeline as he smashes one back to the bowler, who fails to hold on to the sharp chance.

De Villiers is then beaten off successive deliveries outside the off-stump before he hits a full toss down the leg side for a four.

RCB are 106 for three in 15 overs, with 90 runs needed from five overs for victory at an asking rate of 18.

The pressure finally pays off as Kohli loses his wicket trying to catch up with the ever-increasing asking rate.

The RCB captain tries to play the cut shot but Morkel came up with a superb catch at short thirdman.

Kohli walks back for 38 from 31 balls as RCB sink further.

Three balls later, Takawale, who made 45 from 36 balls, drags one back to his stumps.

RCB face a near-impossible task with 103 runs needed from seven overs for victory with two batsmen out in the middle -- Yuvraj Singh and AB de Villiers.

Bangalore's batsmen finding it difficult to get after Shakib, who gives away just five runs in his second over.

Bangalore are 72 for one at the halfway stage, with 124 needed from 60 balls at an asking rate of 12.40.

Narine comes back for another spell and continues to build the pressure giving away just seven runs in his second over.

Kohli decides to break the shackles as he heaves Shakib for a six over midwicket as 10 runs come from that over.

RCB are 90 for one in 12 overs, with 106 runs needed from eight overs for victory at an asking rate of 13.25.

R Vinay Kumar comes into the attack. Kohli flicks the fourth ball on the leg side for a four as 10 runs come from that over.

But left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan manages to bowl a tight over, conceding just four runs in his first.

Vinay comes in for more rough treatment in his second over. Kohli charges down the track and crashes the first ball through the covers for a four. Takawale then cuts a short wide delivery over point for a six and the next ball is again in the same area for a four.

Vinay goes for 17 runs in that over as RCB reach 67 for one in nine overs.

Gambhir decides to continue with Morkel, who comes on to bowl his third over on the trot. He misses the first ball but lofts the next over mid-off for a four.

Takawale (7) gets a lifeline as he mistimes his lofted drive but Pandey clashes with ten Doeschate and drops the easy catch. The right-hander then steers the next ball over the slips for another four as 13 runs come from the over to take RCB to 30 for one in five overs.

Mystery spinner Sunil Narine is introduced. He starts with one on the pads which Takawale nudges fine on the leg side for a four.

Despite the boundary he concedes just six runs in that over as RCB reach 36 for one in six overs. They need 160 runs from 14 overs for victory at an asking rate of 11.42

Kolkata in complete control as Morkel sends down another tight over, giving away just two runs with Yogesh Takawale beaten on a couple of occasions trying to play it through the off-side.

Kohli finds some luck as the leading edge off Yadav falls safely on the off-side but he confidently slams the fifth ball straight down the ground for a four.
18:13   Gayle out for 6, Bangalore lose early wicket

Morne Morkel to bowl the first over of the innings and he makes the perfect start giving away just a single.

Chris Gayle has failed yet again as he is trapped leg before wicket for six by Umesh Yadav in the second over of the innings. Gayle had hit the previous delivery for a four but was beaten this time and struck right in front of the stumps.

Bangalore in early trouble at seven for one in two overs.
17:45   Uthappa, Shakib slam 50s to power KKR to 195

Nechim manages to create some pressure giving away just two singles from the first three balls before Shakib attempts the paddle but is beaten and is bowled after a superb innings of 60 from 38 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes.

Shakib put KKR in control as he put on 121 runs from 70 balls for the fourth wicket with Uthappa.

Uthappa survives a run out chance from the next ball before Ryan ten Doeschate launches the next ball over long-on for a huge six.

Starc to bowl the final over of the innings. Uthappa drives the first ball through the covers for two runs before he gets an inside edge for a single.

Ten Doeschate is beaten as he tries to pull a short ball but he sneaks a quick bye.

Uthappa drives a low full toss back to the bowler before he chips the next ball over the off-side and gets a four despite a good effort from Chahal on the sweeper boundary.

He lofts the last ball back over the bowler's head for a four to end the innings in style.

Uthappa blasts his way to 83 from 51 balls, with the help of 10 fours and a six, to power KKR to a massive 195 for four in their 20 overs.

KKR took control of the game in the second half of their innings, scoring 109 runs in the last 10 overs.

Starc comes back with RCB desperate to make the breakthrough and check KKR's charge in the recent few overs. He keeps it tight giving away five runs from the first five balls before Uthappa drives the last ball through point for a boundary.

Dinda is back and Shakib hammers the first ball through the covers for a four to race to his fifty, from 32 balls. Dinda then bowls a wide before he hits the next ball through point for another boundary as the runs continue to flow for KKR.

Uthappa smashes the last ball through the covers for the third four of the over which goes for 16 runs.


17:16   Uthappa, Shakib put Kolkata in control

Shakib targets Chahal in his final over as he smashes the first ball down the ground for a four. He then gives the leggie the charge off the next ball and smacks it over long-on for a huge six. Two balls later, he whips it over midwicket for another six as RCB bowlers come under some punishment from the KKR batting duo.

He slogs the last ball over midwicket for the third six of the over which goes for 24 runs and also completes the half-century for Chahal, giving away 50 runs in four overs.

Kolkata in complete control on 141 for three in 15 overs with Shakib on 47 from 27 balls and Uthappa batting on 51 from 35 balls.

It's an all-out attack from both ends now as Uthappa steers a full delivery from Nechim through the point region for a four. The right-hander then steers the next ball through midwicket for a couple before he collects another two runs to long-on.

Shakib is unable to beat the point fielder off the last two balls as KKR reach 150 for three in 16 overs.

Chahal does well to keep Uthappa tied down for three balls in a row before he takes one to midwicket.

Shakib makes up for it as he comes down the track and lofts it over mid-on for a four before he takes a single from the last ball.

Shakib walks across his stumps and attempts the paddle scoop against Dinda, who beats him with well disguised slower ball. The left-hander throws his bat at the next ball which is wide but again the change of pace foxes the batsman. The third ball is a yorker which Shakib digs on the leg side for a single to square leg.

Uthappa drives a full delivery to long-off to bring up his half-century from 34 balls.

Dinda spoils the over as he oversteps and bowls a no-ball which also gifts KKR a free hit. But Shakib can only get a single from the free hit ball as he steers a full delivery to thirdman.

KKR in sight of a big total as they 117 for three in 14 overs. Uthappa has blasted his way to 51 from 35 balls, while Shakib has made 23 from 21 balls.

Uthappa continues to find the boundaries as he sweeps Muralitharan past short fine leg fielder for a four to get nine runs from the over.

Nechim comes back and this time Shakib also joins in the fun as he flicks the first ball through midwicket for a four. Four balls later, Uthappa steers it fine on the off-side for a four to race to 48 from 29 balls, which also makes him the highest run getter in this year's IPL going past Glenn Maxwell (533 runs).

Kolkata looking set for a big score as they reach 105 for three in 12 overs.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack. He starts with a full toss which Uthappa lofts straight back over the bowler for a four to get seven runs from the over.

Uthappa looking to lift the tempo as he drives Yuvraj through the covers for a four followed by a single. Shakib Al Hasan steers the fourth ball point for two runs and gets another couple from the last ball to midwicket to get 10 runs from the over.

Uthappa gives Chahal the charge and once again lofts it straight down the ground but this time it carries all the way for a six. He reverse sweeps the last ball for a four to take KKR to 86 for three in 10 overs.

The in-form Uthappa is batting on 36 from 24 balls, while Shakib is on eight.


16:40   Pathan run out for 22, Kolkata in trouble

It seems like Pathan has been sent in as the pinch hitter and attack the bowlers in the middle overs.

Yuvraj Singh is introduced and Pathan wastes no time in hitting it back over the bowler's head for a six. But he is run out off the last ball of the over as KKR are reduced to 56 for three in seven over.

Pathan, who hit 22 from 13 balls, was sent back as he attempted a quick single and had to dive to make his crease but his bat seemed to have lifted off the ground as it crossed the crease.

Dinda strikes in his second over with the wicket of Pandey, who is caught on the thirdman fence by Starc for 13.

The right-hander threw his bat a wide short ball but failed to keep it under control and ended up losing his wicket.

Uthappa gets five runs from the last ball as Kohli gives away four overthrows after Uthappa had attempted a quick single.

Pacer Abu Nechim comes into the attack. Yusuf Pathan gets off the mark with a boundary through square leg as seven runs come from that over.

Pathan is looking to get after the bowlers as he sweeps Muttiah Muralitharan for a six behind square on the leg side.

Muralitharan goes for 10 runs in his first over as KKR reach 45 for two in six overs with Pathan on 12 and Uthappa on 13.

Uthappa has been playing with a bit of caution till now and looks keen to spend a lot of time at the wicket.
16:17   Gambhir out for 4, KKR lose early wicket

Mitchell Starc to open the bowling for RCB and up against him are the KKR's two in-form openers -- Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir.

Uthappa is off the mark with  single from the first ball before Gambhir glances the next ball fine on the leg side for a four.

But the KKR captain falls three balls later attempting the same shot as the wicketkeeper completes an easy catch down the leg side.

Gautam walks back shaking his head in disappointment after scoring just four.

Manish Pandey gets off the mark in some style as he comes forward and drives a full delivery from Ashok Dinda through the covers for a four. He gets an inside edge from the last ball which narrowly misses the stumps and goes through the fine leg region for another four as 10 runs come from the over.

Three singles from the first three balls of Starc's second over before Pandey flicks the last ball through midwicket for a four as KKR reach 22 for one in three overs.
15:52   Bangalore win toss, elect to bowl vs Kolkata
Kolkata are in good form coming into this match, having won their last five games. They are fourth in the standings with 14 points from 12 matches and will seal their place in the play-offs with a victory in this match.

It is a do-or-die match for Bangalore with a defeat set to end their hopes of making it to the play-offs.

On the other hand, Bangalore have struggled despite their star studded batting line-up. RCB, who were beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match, have 10 from 12 points.

15:37   Bangalore win toss, elect to bowl vs Kolkata
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has won the toss and elected to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League, in, Kolkata on Thursday.

Bangalore have made two changes to their team with Ashok Dinda and Yogesh Takawale coming in for Varun Aaron and Parthiv Patel respectively.

Kolkata have made one change with Morne Morkel replacing fellow pacer Pat Cummins.
