India start off the series with a big win to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Ishant did his World Cup chances no harm, taking advantage of some assistance from the track, to register wonderful figures of four for 34 in eight overs, while Patel and Yadav claimed 2-24 each.

Sri Lanka's batsmen struggled on a pitch offering some extra bounce to the pace bowlers. Only Mahela Jayawardene got the measure of the conditions as he top scored with a fluent 43 from 36 balls but the rest of the batsmen surrendered pretty tamely.

The second ODI will be played in Ahmedabad on Thursday, November 6 (1330 IST).

Perera looks to heave Ashwin on the leg side but gets an inside edge for a boundary. He survives a huge shout for LBW from the last ball as seven runs come from the over.

Ishant continues to bowl with a good rhythm, giving away just a single to Gamage. His figures currently read four for 34 in eight overs.

Gamage survives a shout for LBW against Ashwin before Perera sweeps him square on the leg side for a four.

India would be keen to finish off the innings as Sri Lanka's last pair look to frustrate the Indians by looking to stay at the wicket.

Yadav comes back and he ends the Sri Lankan innings as Perera is well held by Ishant at long-on who takes a low catch.

Sri Lanka are bowled out for 194 in 39.2 overs to lose the opening match by a huge margin of 169 runs.

Ishant picks up another wicket as Randiv inside edges one back on to his stumps to be bowled for five. Four balls later, Prasad gets an outside edge and is caught behind for a duck.

Ishant bowls a double-wicket maiden to reduce Sri Lanka to 175 for nine in 36 overs.

Ishant comes back as India look to finish off Sri Lanka. And the tall pacer strikes with the wicket of Priyanjan, who is forced to edge one which bounces extra and moves away a tad to be caught behind for 12.

Ishant then oversteps before he bowls a big bouncer and has to rebowl the free hit delivery. The last ball is a full toss which Randiv drives through the covers for a four to get off the mark.

The wickets continue to tumble for SL. Mathews succumbs to the pressure as he looks to heave Raina on the leg side but is caught by Patel at square leg for 23.

In the same over, Raina bowls a big wide down the leg side to Priyanjan as it beats keeper Saha for five extra runs and take SL past the 150-run mark.

Ashwin comes back, replacing Patel, who took two for 24 in six overs. Priyanjan plays the late cut off the last ball for a four to get six runs from the over.

Perera looks to chip Raina over the off-side but fails to make proper contact as it evades mid-off for two runs. He reverse sweeps the next ball for a boundary as nine runs come from the over to take SL to 166 for six in 33 overs.

Patel continues his good job with the ball, giving away two singles. His figures now read: two for 19 in five overs. Raina follows it up with another good over as he concedes just three runs.

Mathews looks to cut Patel but gets an edge which flies past Raina at first slip for a boundary and picks up a single from the last ball.

Sri Lanka are 144 for five in 30 overs, with 220 needed from 20 overs for victory at an asking rate of 11 per over.

Part-timer Suresh Raina is introduced into the attack. With two new batsmen out in the middle he makes a tidy start, giving away just three runs in his opening over.

Patel in the middle of a good spell as Jayawardene plays three dot balls in a row before being forced to play the sweep which goes for a four square on the leg side but defends the last two deliveries.

Mathews decides to break the shackles as he reverse sweeps Ashwin through the off-side for a four. The next ball is short and the SL captain hits it square on the off-side for another boundary.

At the halfway stage, Sri Lanka are 126 for four, with another 238 runs needed from 150 deliveries for victory.

Prasanna perishes early as he chips it straight to Rahane at point to fall for five to give Patel his first wicket of the match. Jayawardene is waging a lone battle, having scored 38 from 28 balls, but he is not getting support from the other end.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel is brought into the attack. Jayawardene goes back and plays the late cut for a boundary through the vacant thirdman region and repeats the shot off the next ball for the same result as nine runs come from the opening over.

Yadav comes back as Patel is taken off after just a single over. He gives away five runs as Sri Lanka reach 107 for three in 20 overs, with 257 needed from 30 overs for victory.

Jayawardene looking to be aggressive and bring Sri Lanka back into the contest. He smashes a half-volley from Ishant through the covers for a boundary and then steers the next ball fine on the off-side for the same result for back to back fours.

Ashwin gets the wicket of Tharanga, who is caught at long-on after a struggling innings of 28 from 53 balls.

Aaron looks in some sort of problem as he is forced to walk off the field after bowling the first delivery of his fourth over. Captain Kohli decides to bring himself on to complete the over as Tharanga eases the fourth ball through point for a four before taking two runs from the last ball.

Ishant strikes with the key wicket of Sangakkara, who edges the outswinger and is caught behind for 13.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack. Mahela Jayawardene takes no time to get after the spinner as he lofts the fifth ball down the ground over long-on for a six.

Sri Lanka are 73 for two in 15 overs, with 291 runs needed from 35 overs for victory with eight wickets in hand.

Aaron comes back for his second spell. Sangakkara crashes a full wide delivery through the covers powerfully for a four before Tharanga's struggle continue as he gets another edge which flies over the slips for a four as 10 runs come from the over.

Ishant bowls a beauty to beat Sangakkara all ends up who must consider himself lucky to have not edged it. But he comes down the track to the next ball and smashes it through the off-side for a four.

Sangakkara then survives a close shout for run out as he attempts a risky second run and manages to make it to his crease despite a direct hit from Rayudu at deep square leg.

Yadav makes the first breakthrough as Dilshan gets an edge and is caught behind by Saha for 18, in the ninth over. The extra bounce does the trick as Dilshan throws his bat at a wide delivery but finds only the edge. Veteran Kumar Sangakkara gets off the mark with two runs on the leg side.

Tharanga edges Ishant but this time it carries over the slips for a four as Sri Lanka reach 39 for one in 10 overs. Tharanga has struggled to get going to score 13 from 35 balls. The visitors need 325 runs from 40 overs at an asking rate of 8.12 with nine wickets in hand.

At the same stage, India were 43 for no loss but they managed to turn things around in the middle overs something which SL would also be aiming to do.

Tharanga can only defend another excellent over from Yadav, who is bowling in the 140s and extracting good bounce. Yadav bowls his second maiden and his figures now read 11 runs from four overs, while Aaron has given 16 runs from three overs.

Aaron makes way for the experienced Ishant Sharma, who will also be happy seeing the extra bounce and carry.

Dilshan turns the first ball to fine leg for one before Tharanga plays off the rest of the over as just a single comes from the over.

Sri Lanka's openers finding it difficult to break free with the two Indian fast bowlers getting of movement. Dilshan is again beaten outside the off-stump with Yadav again bowling the outswinger to perfection. Another good over by Yadav as he concedes just four runs.

Dilshan edges Aaron as it goes on the bounce to Raina at short thirdman but he is unable to stop it cleanly and gives away a run.

Aaron then gets another one to go past the outside edge as Tharanga plays another loose shot without moving his feet. Dilshan steers the last ball for a four in the huge gap between the slips and the gully fielder to take SL to 28 for no loss in six overs.

Dilshan gets the first boundary of the innings as he flicks Yadav through midwicket but is beaten off the next ball, by a full outswinger from the India pacer. He does it again off the next ball as Dilshan plays and misses again as the pitch still offers some help to the pacers.

This time Tharanga is beaten outside the off-stump as Aaron slants it across the left-hander at a good pace -- 144kmph. But the next is slipping down the leg side and is called a wide.

Another express delivery (145kmph) rises steeply, hitting Tharanga on the gloves as he looks to defend. Dilshan turns it square on the leg side for two runs as SL reach 18 for no loss in four overs.

A daunting task for the two Sri Lankan openers -- Tillkaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga -- as they face a huge target of 364.

Umesh Yadav starts off proceedings and he bowls an excellent opening over from Tharange, who quietly plays out a maiden over.

Varun Aaron to bowl the second over. Dilshan gets an edge off the second ball but falls short of wicketkeeper Saha as he gets a single to get SL off the mark.

India's huge total was set up by the 231-run opening stand between Dhawan and Rahane, who hit 111 and 113 respectively. They started off cautiously with 43 coming from the first 10 overs before the two started hitting out.

Raina hit a quickfire 52 from 34 balls as India made a confident start to the series.

Randiv was Sri Lanka's most successful bowler, as he claimed three for 78 in 10 overs, while Gamage impressed as he claimed one for 59 in nine overs.

Sri Lanka will need to pull off a record run chase as no teams have scored more than 332 to win against India batting second.

Axar Patel is off the blocks in smashing fashion. He lofts the first ball back over the bowler Prasad's head for a six before he hits the next over the cover region for the same result.

Prasad makes a good comeback bowling two good yorkers as Saha can get only a single from those.

Axar skies the last ball high on the leg side but Mathews puts down a simple catch at midwicket.

India get 15 runs from the final over to finish on a huge 363 for five, the highest total at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack.

Gamage to bowl the 49th over. He bowls another high full toss which is ruled a no-ball for height for the second time in the match but the umpires strangely rule it his first offence and he is allowed to continue. The confirmation is that the first ball was nowhere near to the batsmen and he didn't get a warning for dangerous bowling.

Rayudu pulls the next ball through midwicket for a couple followed by two singles.

Rayudu has a wild swing but miscues it and is caught on the off-side after scoring 27 from 20 balls. Saha flicks the last ball through the leg side for a four, his first of the innings.

Prasanna continues as Rayudu comes down the track to the first ball and lofts it over extra cover for a four. He repeats the shot off the next ball for the same result to make it two boundaries in a row.

Wriddhiman Saha gets off the mark with a single to sweeper cover as 12 runs come from the 47th over.

Pacer Prasad comes back, to replace Randiv, who finished with three for 78 in 10 overs.

Rayudu steers the second ball through the vacant thirdman region for a four but he is beaten off the next two deliveries. He slaps the fifth ball powerfully through the covers but the sweeper fielder makes a good sliding stop to keep it down to two.

Rayudu gets a leading edge off the last ball for another couple to take the score to 335 for four in 48 overs.

Randiv comes on to bowl his final over. He has changed tactics by pausing a bit before bowling the delivery to gauge what the batsmen is doing. He is lucky to end his spell with a wicket as Kohli pulls a long hop straight into the hands of the fielder at deep square leg.

Kohli walks back in disbelief after scoring 22 from 21 balls as India are reduced to 314 for four in 46 overs.

Leggie Prasanna comes back and he starts with a poor delivery as Kohli pulls the short ball through midwicket for a four. He gets the next ball in the same region for a couple to get eight runs from the over.

India placed perfectly to get around the 350-run mark as they reach 309 for three in 45 overs.

The runs continue to flow as Raina steers a wide full delivery from Randiv square on the off-side for a four as India gets 11 runs from the 42nd over.

Gamage comes back after an expensive over from Perera. Raina, playing in his 200th match, takes a single on the off-side to bring up his 5000 runs in ODIs.

In the next over, he lofts Randiv over midwicket for a six to race to his half-century from 33 balls. Interestingly, it also brings up the 50-run stand for the third wicket from the same number of deliveries.

But Randiv gets revenge from the very next ball as Raina is trapped leg before wicket trying to sweep it fine but misses.

Raina walks back after a quickfire innings of 52 from 34 balls, having hit four fours and thee sixes.

Ambati Rayudu gets off the mark with a single to bring up India's 300, in the 44th over.

With 10 overs to go, India will look to play a few more shots and take the score around the 350-run mark.

Raina flicks Perera on the leg side for a boundary and Kohli times a full delivery through the covers for the same result.

Raina then plays the inside out chip to perfection for a boundary over the covers. Perera tries a short ball but Raina is waiting for it as he rocks back and pulls it high and handsome over the fine leg fence for a six.

Perera has gone for 20 runs in that over as India reach 275 for two in 41 overs with Raina racing to 33 from 24 balls.

Sri Lanka make a change as Perera replaces Priyanjan and he bowls a tidy over to the new batsmen, giving away just four runs.

Off-spinner Ashan Priyanjan comes into the attack. Dhawan continues to target the midwicket fence for another boundary but is dismissed off the last ball of the over. He tries to play the slog sweep but gets an inside edge on to the pads which rolls on to the stumps.

Dhawan walks back after a superb innings of 113 from 107 balls, after hitting 14 fours and three sixes. He gave India a superb foundation, putting on 231 runs for the opening wicket with Rahane from 35 overs.

India take the Batting Powerplay very early, at the start of the 24th over. A sensible decision by the hosts given their two openers are looking in good touch and scoring freely.

Pacer Dammika Prasad comes back with the fielding restrictions in place for the next five overs. Two singles from the first three balls before Dhawan crashes it through midwicket for a boundary as India get six runs from the over.

Pace from both ends as Gamage is brought back from the other end. He starts with a high bounce catching Rahane by surprise who had come down the track. Two balls later, he lofts a full delivery over long-on for a boundary and then plays the inside out chip over mid-off for the same result.

India's openers have looked to bat steadily and avoid taking unnecessary risks in the last few overs as they try to build a platform for the rest of the batsmen.
