Motera ODI Live! Rayudu's maiden ton helps India thrash Sri Lanka

Timeline  Refresh

21:10

India: 275-4 (44.3 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

Suresh Raina replaces his captain at the crease, with India needing just 19 to win.

He starts off with a boundary and a six off Randiv. However, his extravagance costs him hist wicket, Prasanna having him out leg before for 14.

Rayudu (121) clinches the match for India with a boundary off Prasanna.

India win by six wickets, with 33 balls left, to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
21:00

India: 256-3 (43 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

India made 47 without losing a wicket in the batting powerplay, as opposed to the visitor's 30-3.

The Rayudu-Kohli partnership is now worth more than hundred runs.

It ends at 116 (off 96 balls) as Prasanna has Kohli caught by Randiv, with the Indian captain just one short of his half century.
20:41

India: 215-2 (38 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

The batting powerplay is taken in the 34th over. Suraj Randiv to bowl. Rayudu hits the fifth ball to the fence as eight runs come off the over.

Prasad to bowl the second over. Rayudu hits the first ball to the fine leg fence and smashes the second over wide long-on for a six as 16 runs come off the over, one that sees the completion of the 50-run partnership for the third wicket.

Another huge six off Randiv takes Rayudu to 98. He duly completes his first ODI hundred with a single two overs later.
20:08

India: 170-2 (32 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

Dhawan's 80-ball 79 was inclusive of seven hits to the fence and one over it and he added 122 runs (off 121 balls) with Rayudu for the second wicket.

Captain Virat Kohli walks in. He begins with a boundary off Prasanna.

With Rayudu settled and Kohli back in form, this partnership might just be the deciding factor.
19:45

India: 140-2 (27 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

Perera's third over is an expensive one. Dhawan smashes the first ball over long-off for a six. The second ball goes to the square leg boundary, helping India get past the 100-run mark,.

The third ball goes to the third man boundary as 16 runs come off the over. Courtesy that, India reach 107-1 after 22 overs. At the same stage, Sri Lanka were 107-3.

A single by Dhawan, off Priyanjan in the 24th over, helps raise the 100-run partnership for the second wicket.

A boundary off Priyanjan, followed by a single, helps Rayudu complete a well-deserved fifty, his fifth in ODIs.

Sri Lanka finally get a breakthrough though, Prasanna having Dhawan (79) caught by Priyanjan at deep square leg.
19:18

India: 91-1 (21 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

A single by Dhawan, off Dilshan, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the second wicket.

A boundary to square leg off Prasad, only his third, helps Dhawan complete a well-deserved fifty, his 10th in ODIs and his third against Sri Lanka.
19:02

India: 65-1 (17 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

India have managed only 33 runs in the first 10 overs. Perera replaces Gamage (5-1-13-0) in the attack in the 12th over. He gives away just three runs first up.

It's a twin bowling change, Suraj Randiv replacing Prasad (3-0-11-1). He gives away a single. India reach the 50-run mark in his second over, the 15th of the innings.

Rayudu eases the pressure with a big six in Randiv's third over.
18:16

India: 20-0 (7 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

The Indian innings is progressing at a slow pace at the moment. The pressure eventually tells.

Dhammika Prasad replaces Mathews (3-0-12-0) in the attack in the seventh over and strikes with his third ball, having Rahane (8) caught by Mahela Jayawardene at first slip.

Ambati Rayudu is the new man in.
17:53

India: 4-0 (2 overs)
Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan open the batting for India and it is Angelo Mathews starting proceedings for the visitors. Rahane hits the second ball to the fence in what is the lone scoring shot in the over.

Lairu Gamage to bowl the second over. It's a maiden from him first up.
17:10

Sri Lanka: 274-8 (50 overs)

A couple by Dhammika Prasad, off Ishant, helps Sri Lanka get past the 250-run mark, in the 48th over.

Yadav ends with figures of two for 54. Ishant to bowl the final over. Mathews needs 14 to reach his maiden ODI hundred. Can he do it?

No he can't. He remains unbeaten on 92. But the 54-run ninth wicket partnership between him and Prasad (30 not out) has ensured Sri Lanka reach a respectable 274 for eight in their stipulated overs.

The average first innings score in Motera is 258. So Sri Lanka have not done badly here.

But the key question is, have they done enough?
16:48

Sri Lanka: 239-8 (46 overs)

Axar Patel has finished his spell (10-1-39-2). Ashwin hits Randiv's (10) off stump in his final over (a maiden) to end with figures of two for 49, a great comeback considering he went for 18 in his first.

Mathews, meanwhile, has moved into the 80s. Can he complete his maiden ton?

Will the last two Lankan batsmen help their captain out?
16:27

Sri Lanka: 205-7 (41 overs)

Sri Lanka have had a forgettable batting powerplay, managing just 30 runs and losing three wickets in the process.

The following three overs also contribute just six runs. However, Mathews eases the pressure to an extent with three successive boundaries, followed by a six (by Perera), off Jadeja, the latter helping the visitors get past the 200-run mark.

Axar returns to account for Perera (10), the batsman attempting a slog and missing the line.
16:03

Sri Lanka: 179-6 (36 overs)

Seekkuge Prasanna joins his captain at the crease. The latter, meanwhile, completes his 23rd ODI fifty with a boundary off Jadeja. It's Mathews' fourth fifty against India.

He is yet to convert any of those fifties into a three-figure score. Today is perhaps an apt time.

Ishant Sharma replaces Yadav (7-1-33-2) in the 35th over. Prasanna smashes the second ball for a six over deep backward square leg. However, his stay at the crease is cut short when Jadeja has him caught by Rayudu at the same area.

Ashan Priyanjan (1) comes and goes in the space of four balls, run out.
15:44

Sri Lanka: 155-4 (33 overs)

Another bowling change. Umesh Yadav replaces Ashwin (7-0-42-1) in the 31st over. Mathews helps himself to a couple of boundaries as 10 runs come off the over.

The batting powerplay is taken in the 32nd over. Ashwin to bowl. A single off the first ball, by Sanga, helps Sri Lanka reach the 150-run mark.

Yadav to bowl the second over. He strikes with his second ball, having Sangakkara (61) caught by Dhawan at long -on.

Sanga's 86-ball innings was inclusive of four hits to the fence and he helped his captain add 90 runs (off 111 balls) for the fourth wicket. However, he was guilty of playing a full toss straight to the fielder.
15:21

Sri Lanka: 126-3 (28 overs)

Ishant (5-0-16-0) is taken off after that one over and is replaced by the bowler he himself replaced, Axar.

A single off Jadeja helps Sangakkara complete a well deserved half century, his 87th in ODIs and his 18th against India.

Sanga might have started off slowly but the veteran has applied himself well thereafter.
15:08

Sri Lanka: 115-3 (24 overs)

Ashwin has come back really well after that disastrous first over. Axar Patel has been spot on from the very start and the two have put a noose round the Sri Lanka scoring rate.

Mathews tries to ease the pressure with a huge six over the deep square leg boundary, in the first ball of Ashwin's sixth over.

The Sri Lankan captain follows it up with a boundary off Axar.

Ravindra Jadeja replaces Ashwin (6-0-37-1) in the attack in the 22nd over. A boundary by Sangakkara, off the third ball, helps Sri Lanka get past the 100-run mark.

It's a twin bowling change as Ishant replaces Axar (6-0-25-1) in the next over. He gives away six runs.

A single by Mathews, in the first ball of Jadeja's second over, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
14:39

Sri Lanka: 70-3 (16 overs)

Mahela Jayawardene is the new man in. So we have the two most experienced Sri Lankan batsmen at the crease.

However, before they can do any damage, Ashwin does it, providing India its third wicket, having Jayawardene (4) caught by Rayudu at deep midwicket.

Captain Angelo Mathews walks out to bat with his team in some sort of trouble.
14:22

Sri Lanka: 55-2 (11 overs)

It's spin from both ends for India, with Axar Patel replacing Yadav (5-1-21-1) in the attack in the 11th over.

A couple by Dilshan, off the second ball, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the second wicket.

However, Axar strikes with his third ball, getting past the defense of Dilshan (35). The veteran Sri Lankan's 30-ball knock was inclusive of seven hits to the fence and he helped Sangakkara add 51 runs for the second wicket.
14:18

Sri Lanka: 53-1 (10 overs)

Both Ishant and Umesh, the former in particular, haven't let the Lankan batsmen too many easy balls to score off. In fact both the Lankan batsmen, at the moment, are struggling to time the ball.

Dilshan helps himself to a third boundary in Ishant's fourth over, hitting through the gap between point and third man.

Sangakkara's first boundary comes in the 24th ball he has faced in the innings, a top-edge off Yadav.

India make their first bowling change in the 10th over, R Ashwin replacing Ishant (4-0-10-0). Dilshan helps himself to four successive boundaries as 18 runs come off the over, taking the visitors past the 50-run mark.
13:54

Sri Lanka: 21-1 (5 overs)

Kumar Sangakkara is the new man in. Ishant Sharma to bowl the second over. He gives away just two runs.

Dilshan starts off with a boundary right of cover, in the first ball of Yadav's second over. The second ball also ensures a boundary for the veteran batsman, this time courtesy a square cut that beats the third man.

It's been a tentative start for Sri Lanka but they will take hope from the fact that India has lost four of its six ODIs in Motera.
13:34

Sri Lanka: 4-1

Kusal Perera and Tillekeratne Dilshan open the batting for Sri Lanka and it will be Umesh Yadav first up for India. Four leg byes come off the second ball.

Yadav strikes with his final ball, having Perera out leg before.
13:06
Good afternoon and welcome to the live coverage of the second One Day International between India and Sri Lanka in Motera.

The home team leads the series 1-0, having comprehensively won the opener in Cuttack on Sunday.

The news is Sri Lanka has won toss and opted to bat first.

"It looks like a good wicket and we would like to put the runs on the board," reasons skipper Angelo Mathews. Virat Kohli, his opposite number, concurs.

"We've liked to bat first as well," he admits.

"But it looks like a dry wicket and the ball will certainly do more than it did in Cuttack," he adds.

Both the teams have made one change apiece, Ravindra Jadeja replacing Varun Aaron in the India line up and Sri Lanka opting for Kusal Perera in place of Upul Tharanga.
