India: 242-7
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Mendis' eighth over swings it again in Sri Lanka's favour, the bowler taking wickets of his first two balls.

He first has Binny (12) stumped and then has R Ashwin out leg before for his fourth wicket of the innings. The required rate is now nine, India needing 54 off six overs.

Make it 47 off the last five. Can Kohli do it?
20:37

India: 231-5
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

The batting powerplay is taken in the 36th over, with India at 188 for four. India 28 runs, losing Kedar Jadhav (20) - bowled by Mendis - in the process.

Eranga returns in the 43rd over. A single by Kohli in the third ball helps complete his 21st ODI hundred, his sixth against Sri Lanka.
19:56

India: 182-4
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

After Mathews, Kohli becomes the second batsman this year to score in excess of 1,000 runs, in his 21st match. This is the fourth straight year in which Kohli has scored 1,000 or more runs.

Mendis is handed the ball in the 34th over, replacing Perera (3-0-20-0). He strikes with his third ball, a spectacular catch by Mathews at midwicket cutting short Uthappa's (19) stay.

Kedar Jadhav, the debutant, joins his captain at the crease. Can he handle the pressure?
19:40

India: 162-3
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

A couple off Eranga, by Kohli, helps India reach the 150-run mark in the 28th over.

Lack of coordination from the Indian batsmen hands Sri Lanka the breakthrough they so desperately needed, Eranga running out Rayudu (59).

Rayudu's 69-ball innings was inclusive of eight boundaries and a six and he helped his captain add 136 runs (in 141 balls) for the third wicket.

Robin Uthappa joins his captain at the crease. He begins with a boundary to third man.
19:27

India: 146-2
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

A boundary past the third man, off Gamage, helps Rayudu complete his fifth half century in ODIs. The batsman has helped his captain add more than 100 runs for the third wicket now.

If these two hang around for some more time, Sri Lanka won't be able to avoid a 5-0 whitewash.
19:04

India: 103-2
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Ajantha Mendis and Dilshan are given the ball in the 17th and 18th over, immediately before, and after the drinks break.

A boundary in Mendis' second over helps Kohli complete his 34th ODI fifty, his 11th against Sri Lanka.

A couple by Kohli, in Dilshan's second over, helps India reach the 100-run mark, in what is the 20th over of the innings.
18:43

India: 68-2
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Shaminda Eranga replaces Gamage (3-0-14-0) in the attack in the eighth over. He fails to make an impact early on.

Having conceded just 10 runs in his first five overs, Mathews decides to bowl an extra over in his first spell. It backfires as he concedes 15 runs in that over, Rayudu helping himself to successive boundaries.

A single by Kohli, off Eranga, helps India reach the 50-run mark, in the 12th over. Thisara Perera replaces Eranga (3-0-17-0) in the attack in the 14th over.
18:07

India: 18-2
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Mathews strikes again in his third over, getting past the defense of world record holder Rohit Sharma (9).

No heroics for Rohit today. It seems to be Mathews' day.

Captain Virat Kohli walks out to bat.
17:54

India: 8-1
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Mathews strikes in his second over, getting through the defense of Rahane (2).

Amabati Rayudu is the new man in.
17:49

India: 6-0
Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Angelo Mathews is back on the field. He will open the bowling for Sri Lanka. It will be Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane with the bat for India. Just two runs come off the opening over.

Lahiru Gamage to bowl the second over. An otherwise good over is spoilt by a last ball boundary.
17:00

Sri Lanka: 286-8 (50 overs)

Axar Patel comes in to finish his spell, and Mathews spoils his till then great figures with successive sixes over long-on. Axar albeit has Perera (6) caught by Jadhav to end with figures of two for 39.

Mathews albeit continues with his onslaught, with successive sixes off Ashwin (10-1-56-2).

Kulkarni (8-0-57-3), bowls a great final over, giving away just four runs and taking two wickets.

Sri Lanka manage 286 for eight, thanks largely to their captain's magnificent 139. Mathews' 116-ball knock inclusive of six boundaries and 10 sixes.
16:39

Sri Lanka: 245-5

Thisara Perera is the new man in, with five overs left. Sri Lanka need as many as possible in these last five overs.

Mathews steps up the gas with successive sixes off Karn Sharma. He gets another boundary in the over, that costs India 18 runs, and moves to 96. He has never hit a century in ODIs.

Sharma ends a disappointing day with figures of none for 61.

Kulkarni replaces Ashwin (9-1-43-2) in the attack in the 47th over. A couple off the fourth ball helps Mathews reach that elusive ODI hundred.

It's taken him 138 games to reach the landmark but its come at a time when his team really needed it.
16:29

Sri Lanka: 213-5

Thirimanne completes his ninth ODI fifty with a single off Karn Sharma. Mathews also achieves 1,000 runs this year with a single in the over. He is the first batsman to achieve the feat.

However, Thirimanne (52) is dismissed soon after, Ashwin having him caught by Rayudu at long-on.

Thirimanne's 76-ball innings was inclusive of two boundaries and a six and he helped his captain add 128 runs (off 155 balls) for the fifth wicket.
16:19

Sri Lanka: 202-4

Sri Lanka manage just 26 runs in the batting powerplay. But Mathews brings up a well-deserved half century with a huge six off karn Sharma. It's his 25th ODI fifty.

The 41st over, Rayudu's fourth, is the most expensive over of the Sri Lankan innings, 20 runs coming off it.

Mathews hits the third ball to the fence and clears the rope in the next two, the second of those shot helping raise the 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

A six by Thirimanne, off Ashwin, helps Sri Lanka reach the 200-run mark, in the 42nd over.
16:00

Sri Lanka: 151-4

Ashwin replaces Rayudu (2-0-11-0) in the attack in the 30th over. It's amaiden from him.

The spinners have stemmed the flow of runs completely.

India restrict Sri Lanka to 146 for four in 35 overs. The batting powerplay is taken soon after.

Sri Lanka reach the 150-run mark in the 37th over.
15:21

Sri Lanka: 115-4

Ashwin is unlucky as Robin is unable to gather a Mathews (on 7) edge. The batsman expresses his satisfaction by sweeping the next ball to the fence.

Axar, in his sixth over, is also unfortunate as Rahane, in first slip, puts down an outside edge of Thirimanne (on 5). Sri Lanka reach the 100-run mark in the 24th over.

Karn Sharma replaces Ashiwn (5-1-20-1) in the attack in the 25th over. He gives away just a single.

It's a twin bowling change, Ambati Rayudu coming in place of Axar (6-0-19-1). He gives away four runs.
14:53

Sri Lanka: 85-4

Any hopes of a Sri lankan revival are doused when Ashwin has Jayawardene (32) caught by Rahane at slip.

In less than 20 overs, the visitors have lost four of their frontline batsmen.

Lahiru Thirimanne is the new man in, joining captain Angelo Mathews at the crease.
14:35

Sri Lanka: 73-3

A single by Jayawardene, off Binny, helps Sri Lanka get to the 50-run mark, in the 10th over.

Having scored 37 in the first five overs of their innings, the most in this series, Sri Lanka manage just 15 in their next fiver.

India affect the first bowling change in the 13th over, Axar Patel replacing Kulkarni (6-0-39-1). Jayawardene welcomes him with a boundary over midwicket.

It's spin from both ends as R Ashwin replaces Binny (6-1-20-1) at the other end. Jayawardene guides the fourth ball to the third man boundary as seven runs come off the over.

Axar strikes in his second over, having Chandimal (5) caught by Rohit Sharma at mid-on.
13:59

Sri Lanka: 45-2

In Binny's third over, Dilshan helps himself to two more boundaries. However, the bowler has the last laugh.

In the last ball, Binny get past the defense of Dilshan (35), shattering his stumps. Dilshan's 24-ball knock was inclusive of seven hits to the fence.

One veteran replaces another as Mahela Jayawardene walks out to bat.
13:53

Sri Lanka: 37-1

Dilshan gets his fifth boundary of the innings, over cover, in Kulkarni's third over.

Three balls later, Kulkarni provides India the breakthrough, having Dickwella (4) caught by Ambati Rayudu at square leg.

Dinesh Chandimal is the new man in.
13:47

Sri Lanka: 25-0

Tillekeratne Dilshan and debutant Niroshan Dickwella open the batting for Sri Lanka and it will be Dhawal Kulkarni starting the proceedings for India.

Dilshan hits the fourth ball to the midwicket fence. The fifth one also fetches him a boundary. The veteran batsman gets a third boundary in the last ball of the over, through cover.

Stuart Binny to bowl the second over. He gives away just three runs. Both the bowlers have good second overs.
13:23

Sri Lanka: 0-0

Sri Lanka have won the toss and they will bat first.

"It looks like a dry wicket. It might turn later," reasons captain Angelo Mathews.

"We are not a team to be beaten 5-0," he adds.

Keshar Jadhav makes his ODI debut, replacing Suresh Raina. Umesh Yadav has also been rested, making way for R Ashwin.
