CLT20 Live! Chennai thrash Punjab, set up final date with Kolkata

Ashwin's second over costs Chennai 12 runs, with Miller clearing the fence. But does it really matter now?

A boundary by Akshar, off Negi, helps Punjab get past the 50-run mark, in the 10th over. However, there're more woes as Ashwin rattles Miller's (26) stumps in his third over. 

Suresh Raina is handed the ball in the 15th over. He strikes with his second ball, rattling Akshar Patel's (31) stumps. Two balls later, he has Awana (0) caught by Du Plessis.

A big six by Anureet, off Ashwin, helps Punjab get past the 100-run mark, in the 17th over. However, its all over for Punjab when Jadeja has Anureet (16) caught by Raina. 

Chennai thrash Punjab by 65 runs to set up a final date with Kolkata on Saturday.

It's just got worse for Punjab, Mohit having Manan (16) caught by Faf du Plessis. It is a brilliant catch with the South African running backwards from mid-off.

Captain George Baley comes out to join Miller at the crease. This is the last recognised pair for Punjab. In the powerplay, Punjab have managed to put themselves in a mess, at 25 for four. 

Pawan Negi replaces Mohit (3-0-14-2) in the attack in the eighth over. He strikes first ball, having Bailey (6) caught by McCullum at short cover. Two balls later, he has Thisara Perera (0) caught by Bravo at deep midwicket. 

It's all over for Punjab. Now it is all about respect.

Vohra gets into the groove with a boundary each off Nehra and Sharma. 

However, Nehra cleans up Saha (6) at the other end. Glenn Maxwell is the new man in. He survives three balls before being caught behind. 

David Miller joins Vohra at the crease with their team struggling.

Chennai: 182-7 (20 overs)

Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra open the batting for Punjab while it will be Ashish Nehra first up for Chennai. Only two runs off the over. 

Mohit Sharma to bowl the second over. He gets Chennai a breakthrough with his fourth ball, a spectacular catch by McCullum at cover point cutting short Sehwag's (0) stay at the crease.

Wridhimann Saha has been promoted to No.3. He is off the mark with a four.

Chennai: 182-7 (20 overs)

Pawan Negi has been promoted up the order and he starts off with a six off Akshar. 

Bravo rips apart Perera (4-0-41-1), in the latter's final over, helping himself to a couple of boundaries and a huge six over point. 

A boundary off Anureet helps Bravo complete a well deserved fifty.

Awana (4-0-30-4) brings Punjab back into match, getting the wickets of Negi (8) and Dhoni (0) off successive balls. Its a hat-trick for him as he had dismissed Raina in the last ball of his third over.

But Bravo (67) and Jadeja (27 not out) ensure Chennai a strong finish, at 182 for seven.

In his third over, Karanveer is unlucky as Maxwell drops Bravo (on 8) at long-off. The batsman celebrates his reprieve with successive boundaries in Perera's third over. 

Du Plessis, meanwhile, is going from strength to strength, hitting a boundary apiece from Perera and Karanveer, the latter bringing about the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

A six by Bravo, off Karanveer, helps Chennai get past the 100-run mark, in the 13th over.

However, Akshar provides Punjab the breakthrough they needed, rattlung Du Plessis' (46) stumps, this after putting down Bravo (on 30) in the over. 

Du Plessis' 33-ball knock was inclusive of five hits to the fence and one over it and he helped Bravo add 65 runs (off 46 balls) for the fourth wicket.

Awana strikes again, in the final ball of his third over, having Raina (6) caught by Bailey at short midwicket. 

Dwayne Bravo is the new man in.

Chennai have managed just 41 for three in the powerplay. Karanveer Singh is handed the ball immediately after. He gives away eight runs first up, with Du Plessis finding the fence.

It's a twin bowling change for Punjab, Akshar Patel replacing Awana at the other end. He gives away six runs.

Suresh Raina is the new man in. He starts off with a boundary left of cover. 

Perera strikes in his second over, having McCullum (6) caught by Awana at deep midwicket.

Faf du Plessis comes out to join Raina at the crease.

Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith open the batting for Chennai and it will be Anureet first up for Punjab. Six runs come off the first over, with Smith hitting the last ball past point for a boundary. 

Parwinder Awana to bowl the second over. He gives away seven with McCullum hitting the final ball to the fine leg fence. 

Thisara Perera to bowl the third over. He costs Punjab seven runs.

Awana strikes in his second over, getting through the defense of Smith (14).

Kings XI Punjab have won the toss and invited Chennai Super Kings to bat first in the second semi-final of the Champions League T20 in Huderabad.

"It's going to be a high scoring game and it's better to know what to chase," reasons captain George Bailey. His Chennai counterpart, MS Dhoni, concurred. 

"Especially, with their (Punjab) batting. But we are okay batting as well," he says.

Punjab name an unchanged side while Chennai have two changes, the notable one being the return of Faf du Plessis.

Laughlin's forgettable spell (4-0-36-1) ends with Yusuf Pathan hitting the last ball to the cover boundary. 

Doherty (4-0-28-1) to bowl the penultimate over. Kallis hits the first ball over long-off for a huge six as 11 come off the over.

Kolkata need six runs off the final over. Bollinger to bowl. Kallis hits a six over deep square leg to not only reach his fifty but also seal Kolkata's passage to the final.

Kolkata take their winning streak to 14 following their seven-wicket win.

Hilfenhaus (4-0-28-0) almost accounted for Pandey (on 22) but it was a no-ball. The batsman celebrates his relief with successive boundaries.

Bollinger returns to bowl the 14th over. Pandey smashes the second ball over deep square leg for a six even as Kolkata reach the 100-run mark in the over.

Laughlin strikes in his third over, having Pandey (40) caught by Malik at long-on.

Pandey's 32-ball innings was inclusive of six boundaries and a six and he helped Kallis add 63 runs (off 48 balls) for the third wicket.

Manish Pandey is the new man in. A couple by Kallis, off Gulbis, helps Kolkata get past the 50-run mark in the ninth over. 

Ben Laughlin is handed the ball in the 10th over. He bowls an expensive first over, 12 runs coming off it with both batsmen helping themselves to boundaries. In his second, Pandey gets successive boundaries.

Kallis and Pandey are combining well. Exactly what Kolkata needs.

Hilfenhaus is allowed to bowl a third over on the trot, and it proves to be a bad decision, with Kallis finding the fence twice. 

Xavier Doherty replaces Bollinger (2-0-11-1) in the attack in the sixth over. Uthappa welcomes himself with a boundary over mid-on. Kallis also helps himself to a boundary in the over. 

Evan Gulbis replaces Hilfenhaus (3-0-17-0) in the attack in the seventh over. He gives away just five runs first up.

Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa open the batting for Kolkata and it will be Ben Hilfenhaus first up for Hobart. Eight runs come off the over, courtesy successive boundaries by Uthappa.

Doug Bollinger to bowl the second over. Nine runs come off it. Hilfenhaus bowls a good second over, giving away just a single. 

Bollinger strikes in his second over, having Gambhir (3) caught by Wells at midwicket. Jacques Kallis has replaced his captain at the crease.

Narine has finished his spell (4-0-24-1). 

Kuldeep's (4-0-21-1) final over is an expensive one, 21 runs coming off it, with Shoaib Malik completing a well-deserved fifty with a huge six.

Andre Russell to bowl the final over of the innings. He gives away just nine runs as Hobart manage 140 for six in their quota of overs.

Malik remains unbeaten on 66, his 46-ball knock inclusive of four hits to the fence and four over it.

Kolkata is in complete control. Narine strikes in his third over, having Birt (13) caught by ten Doeschate at deep midwicket. 

Malik smashes Chawla for a six over long-on, against the run of play. The batsman repeats the feat in the bowler's third over, this time over long-off. 

Chawla concedes 35 in his four over, getting Wells (3) in the bargain. Evan Gulbis hits successive boundaries off the last two balls of the bowler, the second of them helping Hobart get past the 100-run mark, in the 17th over.

Shoaib Malik is the new man in. He and Dunk (39) add 33 runs for the third wicket, with the latter hitting three boundaries in a Russell over. 

Sunil Narine first two overs cost Kolkata nine runs. Kuldeep Yadav is introduced into the attack in the seventh over. 

He strikes in the first ball of his second over, having Dunk caught by Gambhir at point. Travis Birt is the new man in. Hobart reach 54 for three at the halfway mark.

In a surprising movie Yusuf Pathan opens the bowling for Kolkata. Den Dunk and Dom Michael first up for Hobart. Three runs come off the first over. 

Andre Russell to bowl the second over. He strikes with his final ball, taking a return catch to send Michael (0) back to the pavilion. 

Dunk eases the pressure with a huge six over wide long-on off Pathan. Meanwhile, Aiden Blizzard is the new man in. He is out leg before off the first delivery he faces.

The big news in Hyderabad is that Hobart Hurricanes will miss the services of the captain Tim Paine in the crucial semi-final against Kolkata Knight Riders. 

His replacement as captain, Xavier Doherty, has won the toss and Hobart will bat first. 

Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata captain, is not too perturbed, admitting he would have fielded anyways as his side doe well chasing totals.
