2nd Test Live! India end Day One on 319 for six

New ball is taken in the 81st over. Prasad to bowl.

A six over long leg by Rohit, off the second ball, helps India get past the 300-run mark. Two balls later, Rohit finds the boundary.

In Prasad's second over, Rohit continues his onslaught, helping himself to a couple of boundaries.

A single off Herath, by Rohit, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket. 

India end Day One on 319 for five. Only 87.2 overs were possible owing to Sri Lanka's slow over rate. 

Rohit (79) gets dismissed off the day's final ball, trapped leg before by Mathews.

Saha stays unbeaten on 19, having added 52 runs for the sixth wicket, with Rohit. 

India managed 113 runs, for the loss of three wickets, in the day's final session.

Herath gets his second wicket when he has Stuart Binny (10) caught by Chameera at long-off. 

Wridhimaan Saha is the new man in. He begins with a couple of boundaries off Herath and one off Kaushal.

A single off Kaushal helps Rohit complete his third Test fifty. It's been an assured knock.

Stuart Binny is the new man in. 

Rahul did all the hard work but got out to a bad ball.

A single by Rohit, off Kaushal, helps India reach the 250-run mark, in the 67th over.

Rohit Sharma is continuing with his aggression. He smashes Kaushal for his second six, over long-on again.

A single of the next ball helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket, having come off just 79 balls.

However, it is at this juncture that a lapse of concentration costs Rahul (108) his wicket, giving Chameera his first wicket. 

Rahul's 190-ball innings was inclusive of 13 boundaries and a six and he helped Rohit add 55 runs for the fourth wicket.

Rohit Sharma is continuing with his aggression. He smashes Kaushal for his second six, over long-on again.

A single of the next ball helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket, having come off just 79 balls.

And we are back for the day's final session.

KL Rahul is just two short of his second Test ton. And he does so in the second over, with a couple off Kaushal. 

A very matured innings from the young batsman, both his tons having come away from home.

Rahul is closing on his second Test hundred and he looks visibly nervous. 

However, Rohit Sharma takes on Herath, first hitting a boundary followed by a six over mid-off, the latter helping India get past the 200-run mark, in the 52nd over. 

It is the last over before tea now. Can Rahul get his hundred?

The answer is no. Rahul is made to wait for 98.

India managed 109 runs in 27 overs in the second session, losing the wicket of Kohli in the process.

Herath and Kausal, the bowling heroes for Sri Lanka in Galle, have been totally ineffective thus far. 

Just as we say this Herath strikes, against the run of play, having Kohli (78) caught by Mathews at first slip. 

Kohli's 107-ball innings was inclusive of eight boundaries and a six, and he helped Rahul add 164 runs (in 39 overs) for the third wicket. 

Rohit Sharma replaces his captain at the crease.

Rahul gets his first six in the 38th over, smashing Herath over long-on.

Another boundary off the bowler helps raise the 150-run partnership for the third wicket. 

What a stand this has been, much to the frustration of the home side. India 163 for two after 40 overs.

Prasad to bowl the third over of the second session. A boundary off the third ball helps Rahul get to his maiden Test half century. He also has a hundred against Australia.

The shot also helps raise the 100-run partnership for the third wicket. This stand has helped India recover from the early stutter. 

These two have clearly wrested the initiative back for India.

India: 104-2

And we are back after lunch. Kaushal to continue. He gives away just a single.

Chameera to bowl the second over. A single of the first ball helps Kohli complete his 11th Test fifty. 

The run also helps India reach the 100-run mark, in the 28th over.

India: 97-2

The first six of the Indian innings comes in the 19th over, Kohli lofting Herath over mid-off. 

Tharindu Kaushal is handed the ball in the 21st over, replacing Herath (3-0-12-0). He gives away five runs. 

It's a change of ends for Herath, who replaces Prasad (8-3-29-2).

India go into lunch at 97 for two, off 26 overs. 

Captain Kohli is batting on 48, and giving him company is Rahul (on 39), the two having added 85 runs for the fifth wicket so far.

The ball has gone out of shape. And they have called for a drinks break even as they try and get a replacement. 

Mathews has a change of ends, replacing Prasad (5-2-18-2) in the 11th over. 

A single by Kohli, off Mathews, helps India get to the 50-run mark, in the 13th over. 

Spin is introduced in the 15th over, Rangana Herath replacing Mathews (5-1-10-0). Prasad replaces an expensive Chameera (4-0-24-0) in the next over.

KL Rahul gets his first boundary in Prasad's fourth over. 

The first bowling change happens in the day's eighth over, Dushmantha Chameera replacing Mathews (3-0-5-0). Rahul (on 11) is fortunate and Mubarak puts him down in the over. 

Rahul celebrates the reprieve with a boundary past mid-on in the last ball of the over, and another in Prasad's fifth over.

Kohli gets his first boundary in Chameera's second over. In fact, he hits successive boundaries. India reach 40 for two after the first 10 overs.

Angelo Mathews to bowl the second over. It's a tidy one. The first boundary of the Indian innings comes in the day's third over, off Rahane's blade. And that becomes his lone scoring shot.

Prasad strikes again in his third over, having Rahane (4) caught by Karunaratne at third slip.

Captain Virat Kohli comes out to bat with his team in deep trouble.

It's Kumar Sangakkara's last Test and he gets a rousing welcome, and a guard of honor.

Murali Vijay and KL Rahul to open the batting for India. Dhammika Prasad to start the proceedings for Sri Lanka. 

He strikes with his fourth ball, having Vijay out leg before.

Good morning and welcome to the live coverage of the second Test match between Sri Lanka and India at the P Sara Oval.

The news is that the visitors have won the toss and are batting first.

There are as many as three changes in the Indian team, Murali Vijay, Stuart Binny and Umesh Yadav are in for Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh and Varun Aaron.
