In the 37th over, Shami replaces Raina and strikes with his second ball, having Steyn (1) caught by Dhawan at cover point.

In the next over Morkel (2) goes for a big hit and has his stumps shattered, giving Ashwin his third wicket.

South Africa: 153-7 (34 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

Miller (22), who was looking confident, is run out by Yadav, all but endig the South African hopes.

Vernon Philander is adjudged leg before off Ashwin. He goes for a review. The decision stays. SA are seven down.

This, even before the batting powerplay is taken. The Proteas are heading for  heavy defeat at the MCG.
15:42

South Africa: 148-4 (32 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

It's gotten worse for South Africa as Duminy (6) departs early. A reverse sweep goes wrong and Raina takes an easy catch, giving Ashwin his first wicket.

Wayne Parnell is the new man in. The Indian batsmen smashed him all over the park. Can he return the favor?
15:29

South Africa: 134-4 (29 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

Bowling change in the 29th over. Mohit replaces Jadeja (8-0-35-0).

The impact is instant, as Du Plessis (55) is caught off the first ball, by Dhawan at mid-off.

Du Plessis' 71-ball innings was inclusive of five boundaries. But he got out at a team when his team could ill-afford it.

JP Duminy comes out to join Miller at the crease.
15:18

South Africa: 131-3 (27 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

David Miller replaces his captain at the crease.

A single off Ashwin helps Du Plessis complete his 13th ODI fifty, his second against India after the 60 in Newlands in 2011.

Miller has started attacking from the word go. It is perhaps the right approach.

South Africa: 108-3 (23 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

A boundary by De Villiers, off Jadeja, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket. It has been a crucial partnership, and for South Africa's sake, these two need to build on.

R Ashwin replaces Jadeja (5-0-22-0) in the attack in the 22nd over. Du Plessis hits the fourth ball to the fence, bringing up the South African hundred.

A change of ends for Jadeja, replaces Yadav (6-0-34-0) in the 23rd over.

First bowling change for India. Mohit Sharma replaces Yadav (3-0-13-0) in the attack in the seventh over. Seven runs come off the over, with Amla finding the fence.

AB de Villiers, the captain, comes out to bat with his team in trouble.
13:46

South Africa: 12-1 (4 overs)
India: 307-7 (50 overs)

Shami strikes in his second over, having De Kock (7) caught by Kohli at mid-off.

Three runs by Ashiwn, off Morkel, helps India get past the 300-run mark, in the penultimate over of the innings.

Morkel has Dhoni (18) caught behind in his final over, to end with figures of two for 59.

Steyn (1-55) bowls an excellent last over as India manage 307 for seven, thanks largely to Dhawan's 137.
12:43

India: 288-6 (48 overs)

Rossouw puts down Raina (on 4) at deep square leg off Morkel, but atones for his mistake two balls later.

Captain MS Dhoni is the new man in.

Rahane (79) hits a six over mid-off off Steyn, but the bowler hits back immediately, having him out leg before.

Jadeja (2) is run out, courtesy another De Villiers direct hit.
12:26

India: 266-3 (44 overs)

South Africa get a wicket again against the run of play. Parnell has Dhawan (137) caught by Amla at long-leg.

Rahane takes a single off Morkel to reach his ninth ODI fifty.
11:45

India: 195-2 (36 overs)

Ajinkya Rahane is the new man in.

A couple by Dhawan, off Duminy, helps India reach the 150-run mark, in the 31st over.

A boundary off Parnell, his 14th, helps Dhawan to his seventh ODI century, his second against South Africa.
11:08

India: 138-2 (28 overs)

Parnell is unlucky in his second over as Amla puts down Dhawan (on 53) at backward point.

Dark clouds hovering over the MCG at the moment. A boundary followed by single by Dhawan helps India get to the 100-run mark, in the 23rd over.

Successive boundaries by Dhawan, off Parnell, helps raise the 100-run partnership for the second wicket.

Against the run of play Imran Tahir strikes, having Kohli (46) at short midwicket by Du Plessis.

Kohli's 60-ball innings was inclusive of three boundaries and he helped Dhawan add 127 runs for the second wicket.
10:27

India: 79-1 (19 overs)

10:07

India: 61-1 (15 overs)

South Africa make the first bowling change in the ninth over, JP Duminy replacing Steyn (4-1-10-0) in the attack. Interesting move this. He gives away just three runs first up.

It's a twin bowling change for South Africa, Morne Morkel replacing Philander (4-1-19-0) at the other end. Dhawan hits the fourth ball over point for his fifth boundary.

It's a third change in three overs for the Proteas, Duminy (1-0-3-0) taken off after just one over and Imran Tahir is handed the ball. He gives away just a single first up.

A single by Kohli, off Morkel, help India get to the 50-run mark, in the 14th over.

A single by Dhawan, off Tahir, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the second wicket.
09:39

India: 29-1 (8 overs)

Virat Kohli is the new man in. Steyn and Philander have done a good job here for South Africa.

After a quiet start, just two runs off the first 10 balls, Kohli helps himself to a first boundary, a drive through square cover off Philander.

In the same over, Philander's fourth, Dhawan helps himself to his fourth boundary, past extra cover.
09:16

India: 9-1 (3 overs)

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan open the batting for India and it will be Dale Steyn first up for South Africa. It's a maiden from Steyn.

Vernon Philander to bowl the second over. Dhawan hits the fourth ball to the square leg fence for the first boundary of the Indian innings.
