4th Test Australia end Day Four on 251-6, lead by 348 runs

There's bit of rain and play has been called off with an over left. 

Australia end Day Four in command, having scored 251 for six (in just 40 overs), for an overall lead of 348. Haddin is unbeaten on 31, with Ryan Harris yet to score.

Ashwin (4-105) records his best figures overseas but is unable to control the Aussie onslaught. 

The only way India can save this Test is the weather gods intervene. Let's be practical.

Yadav has conceded 45 runs in his three overs. 

Ashwin is back, replacing Raina (4-0-18-0). Burns welcomes him with a six over deep midwicket. And its another century for bowler Ashwin.

However, Ashwin does have the last laugh, having Burns (66) caught by Yadav at deep square leg. It is Ashwin's best figures against India.

Burns' 39-ball innings was inclusive of eight boundaries and three sixes and he helped Haddin add 86 (in just 52 balls) for the sixth wicket.

Yadav replaces an expensive Shami (6-0-33-1) in the 37th over. Haddin welcomes him with a couple of boundaries over covers. 

A single by Burns in the over helps raise the 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket. An aggressive stand this has been. 

Raina replaces a tired Ashwin (18-2-97-3) in the 38th over. Haddin smashes him for a huge six over deep midwicket.

Two consecutive boundaries off Yadav helps Burns to his second straight fifty, off just 33 balls. He celebrates the same with a straight boundary and a boundary.

That's four fours in succession.

Ashwin would have got a fourth had Saha not fluffed a simple chance, Burns (on 17) being the lucky batsman. 

Burns continues with his aggression , with successive boundaries off Ashwin. That is followed by a huge six over deep midwicket.

Haddin hits a six over mid-off off Shami. Another six over midwicket by Burns, off Ashwin, not just helps Australia get past the 200-run mark but also extends their lead to over 300.

Burns takes three off Bhuvneshwar to help Australia get past the 150-run mark, in the 29th over. A couple by Smith in the same over extends the lead past the 250-run mark.

Shami replaces Bhuvneshwar (8-0-46-1) in the attack in the 31st over. He strike with his final ball, having Smith (71) out leg before. 

The Australian captain is out but not before inflicting more misery on India. His 70-ball 71 was inclusive of eight hits to the fence and one over it and help him end the series with a staggering 769 runs in eight innings.

Brad Haddin replaces his captain at the crease.

Shaun Marsh doesn't survive for long, Ashwin having him caught by Vijay at slip, for one. It's a third wicket for the offie.

Joe Burns joins his captain at the crease. He is off the mark with a boundary to third man. 

The Australians have made their intentions clear. True to type, they want a result, and hence are scoring quick.

However, Rogers (56) sacrifices his wicket soon after, in trying to score quick. He hits a Bhuvneshwar delivery straight to Raina at deep square leg.

Rogers' 77-ball innings was inclusive of seven hits to the fence and he helped his captain add 80 runs (in just 94 balls) for the third wicket. 

Shaun Marsh is the new man in. A boundary off Ashwin helps Smith complete his 10th Test fifty, as well as 750 runs in this series.

Suresh Raina replaces an expensive Yadav in the attack in the 15th over. So its spin from both ends for India now. 

A single by Rogers, off Raina, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the third wicket. Another single by Smith, in the same over, helps Australia reach the 100-run mark, in the 19th over. 

Rogers takes a three off Ashwin to take the lead past 200. Bhuvneshwar replaces Raina (3-0-10-0) in the 21st over and gives away five.

Smith smashes Ashwin for a six over extra cover to ease the pressure even further. A spectacular drive off Bhuvneshwar helps Rogers reach his 11th Test fifty.

It is sixth straight fifty in this series.

Steve Smith is the new man in. A couple off Ashwin helps him reach 700 runs for the series, one where he has been in spectacular form after being made his team's captain. 

A boundary by Rogers, off Shami, helps Australia get past the 50-run mark, in the ninth over. After 10 overs, Australia have a scoring rate of more than six. It is only in the 12th over that the run rate comes below six. 

Umesh Yadav replaces an erratic Shami (3-0-20-0) in the 13th over. Smith welcomes him with successive boundaries on either side of the wicket.

Two balls later, Smith has a third boundary. this time in front of square. The Australia captain ends the over with a fourth boundary, behind square. Yadav's first over costs India 17. That's poor bowling.

Mohammed Shami to start the proceedings for India after lunch. Rogers hits the second ball for a boundary in front of square. 

Ashwin to bowl the second over. And he strikes with his second ball, rattling Watson's (16) stumps. 

Watson's run-a-ball innings included three boundaries and he helped Rogers add 40 runs for the second wicket.

Rogers eases the pressure with successive boundaries off Ashwin, In fact, the offie's second over is an expensive one with Watson also finding the fence. 

Its an eventful over, with Saha missing an attempt to run out Watson. Rogers continues with his assault, hitting a couple of boundaries in Kumar's third over.

Australia go into tea at 38 for one (six overs). The home team has an overall lead of 135 at the moment. 

Rogers is unbeaten on 21 and Watson on 13.

Its an interesting contest between the bat and the ball going on. We will be back in 10 minutes.

David Warner and Chris Rogers open the batting for Australia as usual and it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar first up for India. He gives away four runs. 

R Ashwin to bowl the second over. Strange choice this. But interesting one nonetheless. And it works.

Warner (4) is caught by Vijay at first slip. This is a big wicket. 

Shane Watson is a new man in.

Umesh Yadav joins Mohd. Shami (16 n.o.) at the crease. The latter goes big, first with a boundary over mid-on, followed by a six over long-on two balls later. 

Two balls later, he hits a boundary over deep midwicket. His assault forced Smith to replace Lyon (46-11-123-2) with Harris. The new ball is taken.

Umesh Yadav hits a boundary over long-on in the over to get the Australian lead below the 100-run mark. 

However, he is soon dismissed, skying the ball and Haddin makes no mistake. 

India dismissed for 475 (162 overs), giving Australia a first innings lead of 97.

Starc is back, replacing Hazlewood (29-8-64-1) in the attack in the 157th over. He gives away three runs. 

Ashwin, as mentioned, has got past 1,000 runs in what his 24th Test. 

A single of Starc gets him to his fourth Test fifty. What a superb innings this has been, coming at a time when India needed it the most.

However, his resistance ends almost immediately, Starc having him caught behind.

Against the run of play, Lyon has Bhuvneshwar (30) caught by Watson at slips, after a review by the third umpire. 

Bhuvneshwar's 75-ball innings was inclusive of five hits to the fence and he helped Ashwin add 65 runs for the eighth wicket.

Mohammed Shami is the new man in. 

A single off Hazlewood helps Ashwin complete 1,000 Test runs, in his 24th match. Another single by him, off Lyon, helps India get to the 450-run mark, in the 156th over.

Kumar helps himself to a boundary apiece off Watson and Harris, both on the off side. 

His fourth boundary, behind point off Harris, helps raise the 50-run partnership for the eighth wicket. 

Lyon replaces Watson (20-4-58-2) in the 150th over. Kumar gets his first boundary on the on side, his fifth overall, in the over. 

It's a twin change as Josh Hazlewood replacing Harris (30-7-91-1) in the 151st over. 

Against the run of play, Lyon has Bhuvneshwar (30) caught by Watson at slips, after a review by the third umpire.

Welcome back to the second session. Ryan Harris to start the proceedings for Australia. Kumar hits a wonderful cover drive for his first boundary even as six runs come off the over. 

Watson to bowl the second over. He gives away four runs.

Ashwin gets his third boundary to third, his sixth overall, in Harris' second over.

Starc is back in the 139th over, replacing Hazlewood (26-8-58-1). Ashwin edges the first ball and it goes to the third man boundary. 

It is Ashwin's fourth boundary and takes him to 26. He is putting up a good resistance here. Another boundary by him in the over helps India get past the 400-run mark.

India go into lunch on Day Four on 407 for seven (after 144 overs), still trailing Australia by 165 runs.

Ashwin is batting beautifully on 33 and Kumar on three - having faced 39 balls, the two having added 24 runs so far.

It's been a slow session. India have added only 65 runs to their overnight total, losing two wickets in the process.

Saha is undone by a short ball, and a top edge flies to Smith.

Saha takes a three off the last ball to help reach 372. A couple by Saha off Watson helps India avoid the follow-on, in the 128th over.

However, Harris strikes with his third over. And it is a big one. He has Indian captain Kohli (147) caught by Rogers at midwicket.

Kohli's 230-ball innings was comprised of 20 boundaries and he added 60 runs for the sixth wicket with Saha.
