Tri Series Live: Butler, Taylor guide England into final

A match-winning 125-runs stand between Jos Butler and James Taylor helped England beat India by 3 wickets and to set up a summit clash with Australia in the tri-series final,

Earlier, England bundled out India for 200, after some fine bowling from Steven Finn, Moeen Ali and Jimmy Anderson. 

Ajinkya Rahane was the top scorer for India with 73, while Shikhar Dhawan scratched his way to 38. 

After a bright start of 83, Indians lost their way by losing wickets at regular interval. But for a crucial 35 runs stand between Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma, India would have struggled to put up 200 on score. 

England began the chase on a wobbly note and were reeling at 66-5, before Butler and Taylor bailed them out. 

For India Stuart Binny was the pick of the bowlers with 3-33 along with Mohit Sharma with 2-36.

James Taylor and Jos Butler shared a match-winning 125 runs stand for the sixth wicket to guide England into the tri-series final against Australia. 

In a virtual semi-final, England were reeling at 66-5 at one stage in the chase of 201, before the duo played some smart cricket to guide the Three Lions home.with 18 balls to spare

Butler was the most impressive of the two as he looked busy and didn't look in any sort of pressure. 

Taylor on the other hand took his time in the middle and hit a patient 82, before he was dismissed by Mohit Sharma with England requiring just 10 runs. 

Butler too perished in looking to finish off the game quickly as he was caught by Rayudu off Shami. 

Butler made 67 off 78 balls, which included 7 hits to the fence.

Jos Butler struck a brilliant 59-ball 50 to put England on top. 

Butler came in when England were in a spot of bother, but played chance-less innings to help England inch closer to India's target.

Butler along with James Taylored have added 97 runs for the sixth wicket, which not only revived England's innings, but also put them in a strong position in the chase. 

At the end of 40 overs England were 163-5, still requiring 38 runs from 60 balls.

Taylor is on 69, while Butler is on 51.

A crucial 62 runs stand for the sixth wicket between Jos Butler and James Taylor is keeping England in the chase. 

England were struggling at one stage at 66-5, but Butler's busy knock has taken the pressure off Taylor. 

Taylor meanwhile completed a fighting half-century off 86 balls, which included two hits to the fence.

England were 131-5 from 33 overs. England still require 70 from 102 balls. Jos Butler is going strong on 38 from 44 balls.

James Taylor's grit coupled with Jos Butler's belligerence has helped England come out of a precarious situation. 

England were reeling at 66-5 at one stage, before the duo joined hands to put on 35 runs for the sixth wicket. 

England brought up their 100-run mark in the 27th over with a boundary. 

Stuart Binny has been the pick of the bowlers for India with 3-33. England at the end of 27 overs were 101-5, still requiring 100 runs.

It's all happening at Perth as Indian bowlers are fighting hard to defend the low score. 

The latest one to make the long walk back to the pavillion is Eoin Morgan, who was undone by a slower one from Stuart Binny. 

Run scoring has been tough with Axar Patel keeping things tight from the other end. 

The ball bounced from a short of a length and took Morgan's top of the bat, looping it to Shikhar Dhawan. 

Binny then in the next over had Ravi Bopara walking back after he was caught at backward point. 

Bopara was unable to keep a short delivery down from Binny and was held by Ravindra Jadeja. 

At the end of 20 overs, England were 66-5.

England are wobbling now as Stuart Binny sent Joe Root back to the pavillion for 3. 

Nice pitched up delivery from Binny as Root hit it straight back to the bowler. 

England were 44-3 after 14 overs.

Axar Patel now strikes for India removing Moeen Ali for 17. 

Ali looking to be aggressive against the left-arm spinner, chipped one towards long-off, where Ambati took a smart catch. 

A maiden wicket over as England were 40-2 after 13 overs.

Moeen Ali and James Taylor have steadied the ship somewhat after the early jolt of Ian Bell. 

Though both of them have not looked entirely convincing but have added 26 runs for the second wicket. 

Stuart Binny who was taken off after his first two expensive overs, returns as Taylor clips one off his pads for a brace. 

Binny continues to stray his line, by conceding a wide. 

He corrects his line to finish the over with three dots. England were 40-1 after 12 overs.

Mohit Sharma strikes the crucial blow for India by removing in-form Ian Bell for 10. 

Bell was looking aggressive up front by hitting two boundaries off Stuart Binny was trapped LBW. 

While Binny was expensive in his opening two overs, Mohit and Mohammad Shami seems to have pulled things back a bit. 

At the end of 6 overs England were 19-1. Moeen Ali is on 6, while James Taylor is one 1.

Stuart Binny to start off the proceedings for India with the ball. 

First up is a wide from Binny well outside off. 

After leaving couple of balls outside off stump, Ian Bell goes after Binny smashing him for a boundary through the offside. 

England were 5-0 after 1 over.

Courtesy of an enterprising last wicket 35 runs stand between Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma, India managed to reach 200 runs.

India after a promising start of 83 runs for the opening wicket, lost their way by losing wickets at regular intervals. 

Ajinkya Rahane stood out for India with 73, while Shikhar Dhawan was the next best with 38. 

Indians struggled in the middle over against Moeen Ali (2-35) and Steven Finn (3-36). 

When India lost Axar Patel in the 45th over, it looked like India would struggle to reach 200. But Mohammad Shami swung his bat around for a 18-ball 25 to take India exactly to 200, before getting out to Woakes. 

Anderson was the most economical bowler with figures of 1-24 from 9 overs.

Jimmy Anderson picks up his first wicket as he removes dangerous MS Dhoni for 17. Dhoni was undone by a ball kept low and the one that was pitched up. 

Umpire Marais Erasmus had little hesitation in raising the finger. 

Stuart Broad then at the other end had Ravindra Jadeja walking back after played an irresponsible shot to give a simple catch to Steven Finn at mid on. 

India in the last 10 overs have scored 39 runs and have lost 5 wickets. 

At the end of 44 overs India were 165-8.

It's time for Stuart Binny to make the long walk back to the pavillion, after he was caught brilliantly by Ian Bell in slips. 

Steven Finn pitched one up enticing Binny to drive only to have Bell taking a brilliant diving catch. 

India have never got going after Shikhar Dhawan's dismissal and have been looking for momentum against some quality pace bowling. 

India at the end of 40 overs were 157-6.

India is in a spot of bother as Ajinkya Rahane departs now. Rahane perished while looking to play one towards the third man, only to edge it to Jos Butler for 73. 

Steven Finn the beneficiary as India is losing wickets at regular intervals, much to the delight of England bowlers. 

India has now slipped from 83-1 to 136-5. Last 5 overs have produced just 20 runs. 

At the end of 36 overs, India were 136-5. MS Dhoni is on one, while Stuart Binny is yet to open his account.

Broad with cross seam delivery, had Rayudu edging one to Jos Butler behind the stumps.

Moeen Ali continues his good run with his off spinners as he has Suresh Raina walking back to the pavillion for 1. 

Raina looked to hit one inside out, only to edge it to backward point to Woakes. 

India almost got another scare, when Ambati Rayudu almost threw his wicket away by going in for a non-existent single. 

India has slipped from 83-1 to 111-3. 

Last 10 overs have produced 28 runs at the cost of three wickets. 

Rahane is on 58 and Rayudu is on 3 after 30 overs.

Virat Kohli fails once again as he was caught in the deep by Joe Root for 8. 

Kohli looking to aggressive against Moeen Ali, chipped down the track and lofted one over the bowlers head, only to hit it to long-off's hands. 

It's been a poor ODI tri-series so far for Kohli and struggled to get going in his 19-ball stay at the crease.

India were 105-2 after 28 overs. Suresh Raina has joined Rahane in the middle and he is just off the mark.

Ajinkya Rahane registered his 8th ODI half-century with a single Woakes. 

Rahane, who was cautious at start with singles, manged to open up once he got his eye in.

He stitched a crucial 83-runs opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan, which laid the platform for India.

India, meanwhile, brought up their 100 runs with a single. 

At the end of 26 overs were 100-1.

Chris Woakes returns into the attack and he strikes immediately. 

Woakes had Shikhar Dhawan walking back to the pavillion after the left-hander edged one Jos Butler for 38. 

Dhawan looked to cut Woakes, only to get an bottom edge with Butler taking a nice low catch. 

Virat Kohli, who finally comes in at No. 3 was tested with few deliveries as India were 83-1 after 21 overs. 

Rahane is on 43, while Kohli is yet to open his account.

Shikhar Dhawan's confidence seems to have comeback with few breezy boundaries. 

The latest being off Steven Finn as the left-hander hits one on the up through the covers for a boundary. 

Dhawan then cuts one through point for a single. 

At the end of 15 overs India were 61-0. Rahane is on 29, while Dhawan is on 31.

Steven Finn now introduced. Finn was the wrecker-in-chief in last game against India with figures of 5-33. 

Rahane clips one off his pads for a single. This has been India's best opening stand in the tri-series.

Indians have been largely content with taking singles. At the end of 13 overs India were 48-0. Rahane is on 27, while Dhawan is on 20.

Stuart Broad now comes into the attack after India have weathered the early storm. 

Ajinkya Rahane meanwhile, creams one through off side for a boundary -- his first. 

Rahane has lived dangerously with few lobs over the in-field. 

Dhawan has been content with singles so far and looks more determined in the middle. 

A single to end Broad's over as India were 34-0 after 10 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan, meanwhile, hits the boundary boards for India as he cuts one throught point off Woakes. Dhawan now moves into double figures. 

At the end of six overs India were 18-0. Dhawan is on 10, while Rahane is on 8.

Indians are off to a cautious start after being put in by England. Jimmy Anderson and Chris Woakes have been given little away in the opening two overs. 

Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan have got off the mark, but the overcast conditions making it ideal for swing of Woakes and Anderson. 

India at the end of three overs were 4-0.

Welcome to the live update of the tri series match between India and England. 

It's the last league game of the tri-series and it's a virtual semis game. 


The winner of this match will take on Australia on Sunday in the final. 

The news from the middle is that England have won the toss and have elected to field first on a slightly overcast conditions.

India have one change to their side, by bringing in Mohit Sharma for injured Ishant Sharma. 

England meanwhile are going in with an unchanged side.
