World Cup Live: Elliott, Anderson guide New Zealand into WC final

A brilliant unbeaten 84 off just 73 balls from Grant Elliott coupled with a 58 from Corey Anderson, New Zealand eased their way into the World Cup finals for the first time. 

New Zealand got off to a rollicking start  in the chase of 298, courtesy of a brilliant 59 off just 26 balls from Brendon McCullum.

But South Africa fought back with the wickets of Kane Williamson and McCullum. Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill then steadied the ship with a 47 runs stand for third wicket. 

However, Guptill was dismissed after being involved in a mix up with Taylor. 

However Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson combined well for New Zealand to put a match-winning 103 runs stand for the fifth wicket. 

Elliott ended the game a maximum to make it to their maiden World Cup final.

Dale Steyn strikes at a much-needed time for South Africa as he had Luke Ronchi caught in the deep for 8. 

With the pressure mounting on New Zealand batsmen, Ronchi, hit one strraight to Rilee Rossouw, who was stationed at square leg. 

New Zealand were 269-6.

Morne Morkel provides the breakthrough as he removes Corey Anderson for 58.

Morkel ended the 103-runs partnership, as Anderson top-edged one to Faf du Plessis at square leg.

Morkel's figures read 3-48 from his 8 overs. New Zealand need 46 runs from 30 balls.

Timely half-centuries from Corey Anderson and Grant Elliot has helped New Zealand gain ascendancy in the semi-final game against South Africa. 

Kiwis were in a spot of bother,  before a potentially match-winning partnership between the two turned the game in their favour. 

The start was instrumental in the chase and Brendon McCullum provided the just that with a 26-ball 59 blitz. 

At the end 36 overs, New Zealand were 243-4 and they still require 55 runs off 42 balls. 

Anderson is on 51, while Elliot is on 52.

Corey Anderson and Grant Elliot are leading the way for a convincing win for New Zealand. 

The Kiwis were in a spot of bother, before the duo joined hands to put on a possible match-winning partnership for the fifth wicket. 

Elliot is approaching his half-century, while Anderson is five runs shy from what would be a deserving half-century.

At the end of 35 overs, New Zealand were 231-4. The hosts still need 67 runs from 48 balls.

Grant Elliot and Corey Anderson put on a half-century stand to revive New Zealand's hopes of making it to the final of the ICC World Cup. 

The hosts got off to a rollicking start, courtesy off a 26-ball 59 from Brendon McCullum. 

Martin Guptill  and Ross Taylor added 47 runs to build a platform but it's this partnership that is hampering South Africa's chances.

At the end of 31 overs New Zealand were 203-4, still requiring 95 runs off 72 balls. 

Elliot is on 33, while Anderson is on 32.

Imran Tahir has been exceptional in a high scoring game, where he has not allowed the New Zealand batsmen to get going. 

New Zealand courtesy of a great start are still in control and would be hoping that the duo of Corey Anderson and Grant Elliot will see the team through to the World Cup finals. 

Vernon Philander too has looked good in patches,  but hasn't been consistent enough. 

At the end of 26 overs, New Zealand were 174-4. Kiwis need 124 runs from 17 overs.

Taylor looking to play one fine down the leg side, was caught behind the stumps by Quinton de Kock.

New Zealand were 151-4 in 22 overs.

Hesitation causes a wicket to fall against the run of play for New Zealand. 

Kiwis looked to have steadied the ship after two quick strikes from Morne Morkel. 

However Martin Guptill was on his way back after he was involved in a mix up with Ross Taylor. 

Taylor dropped one short and ran for a single only to fins him short of his crease. 

New Zealand were 133-3 after 18 overs.

Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor have steadied the ship for New Zealand after two quick strikes from Morne Morkel. 

Since the boundaries have dried up, Kiwis are more than happy to take singles and couples to ensure the scoreboard is ticking. 

Brendon McCullum's blitzkrieg has made life easy for Kiwis in the chase and with Guptill still there the total is well withing reach. 

After 15 overs, New Zealand were 113-2. Taylor is on 16, while Guptill is on 26. 

Kiwis need 185 runs in 28 overs to enter final.

Morne Morkel strikes once again for South Africa as he removes Kane Williamson for 6. 

Williamson looking to pull one dragged it back onto the stumps as New Zealand were 81-2 after 9 overs.

Morne Morkel provides the most-important breakthrough of the New Zealand innings as he had Brendon McCullum walking back for 59.

McCullum, who was smashing South African bowlers to all corners, hit one straight to Dale Steyn at mid-on. 

Steyn's celebration explains what the wickets means to the Proteas. 

McCullum's innings included eight boundaries and four massive sixes.

New Zealand were 72-1 after 7 overs.

Brendon McCullum has smoked a 23-ball half-century to power New Zealand's chase of 298.

So far no bowler has managed to have any sort of control over McCullum's hitting spree and the Kiwi captain is just toying with the South African bowlers.

McCullum reached the landmark with a maximum off Steyn. He followed that with a boundary and then hit Steyn for another maximum and followed that with couple more boundaries as New Zealand raced to 71-0 in just 5 overs.

New Zealand are off to a flier in the chase of 298 in 43 overs. 

Brendon McCullum is smashing the South African bowlers to all corners. McCullum made his intentions clear with a six off the second ball he faced off Steyn. 

Vernon Philander was not spared either as McCullum smashed him for a six and a couple of boundaries.

Martin Guptill, who hit 237 in the previous game has been a silent partner so far watching the McCullum show from the other end. 

After 4 overs, New Zealand were 46-0. McCullum is on 35 off just 19 balls, while Guptill is on 6.

David Miller played a mind boggling cameo to power South Africa to 281-5. 

South Africa who were rocked early after Trent Boult picked up the openers cheaply. 

But Rilee Rossouw and Faf du Plessis played sensibly to lay a strong foundation. 

But after Rossouw's dismissal, AB de Villiers turned his magic on to hit a 37-ball half-century. 

But it was Miller who turned the game on its head with some lusty blows. 

Miller scored 49 runs off just 18 balls before he was caught by Luke Ronchi off Corey Anderson. 

Anderson was the most successful bowler with 3-72 off 6 overs.

De Villiers remained unbeaten on 65.

David Miller is playing a blinder here as he has smoked four crisp boundaries off Tim Southee. 

With the barely five overs to go, Miller has the license to go for it and has ensured that South Africa maintain the momentum. 

At the end of 40 overs, South Africa were 239-4. Miller is on 20, while De Villiers is on 63.

Faf du Plessis is on his way back to the pavillion after edging one to Luke Ronchi behind the stumps for 82. 

The rain breaks means South Africa have five more overs (43 over a side) to play the innings.

Meanwhile Corey Anderson managed to find the glove of Du Plessis to strike an important blow. 

South Africa were 222-4 after 39 overs.

But there is still that slight delay in the proceedings.

It has become really murky here and umpires call in for covers with couple of drops falling on the ground. 

There was rain prediction prior to the start of the match. De Villiers show has not only helped South Africa pick up pace, but his batting has rubbed on Faf du Plessis as well. 

The duo have added 102 runs for the fourth wicket and South Africa are well in control of the contest. 

South Africa at rain break were 216-3. Du Plessis is on 82, while De Villiers is on 60.

South Africa take the Batting Power Play as Faf Du Plessis punches one down the ground for a single.

AB de Villiers then is dropped by Kane Williamson. The South African skipper hits one straight to short cover where Williamson failed to hold on to a simple catch. 

De Villiers goes on the attack smashing Corey Anderson for a six and couple of boundaries, which also brought up his half-century off just 32 balls. 

South Africa have picked up pace here in the batting powerplay. The duo have already added 90 runs for fourth wicket.

The Proteas were 204-3 after 37 overs. Du Plessis is on 76, while De Villiers is on 53.

It's been a good partnership for South Africa for as Faf du Plessis pulls one towards midwicket boundary. 

Corey Anderson dropped one short as Faf obliged as the duo put on half-century to help SA lay a strong platform for the late flourish.

South Africa were 175-3 after 34 overs. Faf du Plessis is on 68, while De Villiers is on 33.

Matt Henry back into the attack -- Brendon McCullum looking to be aggressive and is aiming to pick up dangerous AB de Villiers wicket. 

De Villiers takes a single as Du Plessis takes a brace to complete his half-century off 87 balls. 

Du Plessis chips down the track and smashes Henry for a maximum. 

Another couple to end the over as South Africa were 140-3 after 31 overs. 

Du Plessis is on 58, while De Villiers is on 9.

Corey Anderson now introduced as New Zealand look to break the partnership that is looking threatening. 

But just as we speak, Martin Guptill pulls one out of thin air to provide the breakthrough.

Rilee Rossouw cut one straight to point but couldn't clear Guptill's outstretched rigth hand. 

Rossouw made 39 from 53 balls.

A 67-runs stand has revived South African innings after they were jolted early. 

Credit must go to Rilee Rossouw, who looked busy in the middle, while Faf du Plessis was more than happy to take his time in the middle. 

Once the ball got older, run scoring has been easy and South Africa have played sensibly against the likes of Daniel Vettori and Matt Henry. 

At the end of 24 overs, South Africa were 99-2. Rossouw is on 28, while Du Plessis is on 39.

It's been pretty intense out there in the middle but South Africa seem to have steadied the ship after early jolts from Trent Boult. 

Rilee Rossouw has looked busy, while Faf du Plessis has played the ball on its merit. 

Boult was a touch expensive in his previous over as he dropped couple of deliveries short and Rossouw was happy to punch it for a boundary. 

Matt Henry has been impressive for someone who is playing his first World Cup match. 

The duo have already added 27 runs for third wicket. After 15 overs South Africa were 58-2. 

Rossouw is on 13, while Du Plessis is on 20.

Trent Boult now has the other opener Quinton de Kock walking back after he was caught at third man for 14.

De Kock gave Boult the charge, only to get an outside edge and was caught safely by Tim Southee who took an easy catch. 

Boult, who has 21 wickets so far in this World Cup, has overtaken Geoff Allot, who was New Zealand's highest wicket-taker in 1999 World Cup. 

South Africa were 34-2 after 9 overs.

Both the batsmen have already got a life each early in the South African innings. 

Trent Boult who bowled a superb over, where he saw Luke Ronchi drop Quinton de Kock. 

Boult who bowled a lovely outswinger, had De Kock poking one outside off stump, only for Ronchi to drop a regulation catch. De Kock was on 6 at that time.

Boult was however, culprit of dropping Hashim Amla, which wasn't that tough. Amla was on 2 at that time.

South Africa, meanwhile have got off to a decent start, courtesy of a flurry of boundaries. 

But just as we speak, Boult castles Amal for 10. 

Amla looking to hit one through the off-side, played one back on to his stumps. 

South Africa were 21-1.

Tim Southee has the new ball in his hand. First up is a good swinging delivery, Amla feels one outside off-stump. 

Amla leaves the next one. 

Amla drives one through the off-side, but straight to the fielder.

Welcome to the live update of the first semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand here in Auckland. 

Weather is a bit dodgy with overcast skies. However there is a reserve day should the match be interrupted by rain. 

The news from the middle is that South Africa have won the toss and have elected to bat first. 

AB de Villiers reckons putting runs on board will be good. Vernon Philander makes his return to the side as Kyle Abbot missed out. 

Kiwis too have made one change to their side as Matt Henry makes his World Cup debut in place of Adam Milne.
