Chennai 162-all out (19 ovs) vs Mumbai 187-6 | Scorecard

Malinga to bowl his fourth and final over with CSK facing a tough task of scoring 31 from the last two overs for victory.

Two singles from the first two balls before Ashwin lofts it over mid-off but doesn't get the distance as Pollard sprints across from long-on and keeps it down to two.

Ashwin looks to heave the next ball on the leg side but holes out a simple catch to Rayudu at deep midwicket to perish for a quick 23 from 12 balls.

Ashish Nehra falls off the last ball of the over as he offers a simple catch to Simmons on the fine leg fence.

CSK are bowled out for 162 in 19 overs to lose by 25 runs as Mumbai storm into the final.

Malinga finished with three for 23 in his four overs but it was Harbhajan, who turned the match with his two-wicket burst as he claimed two for 26.

Chennai will have another chance to get into the final when they play the Qualifer 2 match against the winner of the Eliminator match to be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.

Mumbai continue their amazing run in IPL, winning eight of their last nine matches after they had started with four straight losses.

McClenaghan comes back as Jadeja smashes the first ball over long-on for a six with Pollard making a valiant effort.

But the bowler gets revenge from the next delivery as he holes out to Suchith at sweeper cover to be dismissed for 19.

Mohit Sharma looks to pull a short ball from McClenaghan but mishits it on the leg side which falls safely on the leg side for a single to bring up the 150 for CSK, in the 18th over.

The next ball is a length ball which Ashwin carts over midwicket for a six. He walks across a long way and tries to paddle the next ball fine but fails to make proper connection for just a single.

Faf looks for a big hit down the ground but fails to make proper connection and is caught at long-on after scoring 45 from 34 balls.

Chennai 88-4 (11 ovs) vs Mumbai 187-6 | Scorecard

Dwayne Bravo managed to avoid the hat-trick with an uppish drive to deep square leg for one.

But he got a lifeline from the last ball as Harbhajan put down an easy caught and bowled opportunity, to his left. Bhajji can't believe dropping such an easy catch and sits down for a few minutes in complete shock.

Chennai 2-1 (1 ov) vs Mumbai 187-6 | Scorecard

Lasith Malinga to bowl the first over for Mumbai Indians, while CSK have a new opening pair in Dwayne Smith and veteran Michael Hussey.

Smith defends the first three balls before he is foxed by the slower full toss from Malinga and is trapped leg before wicket for a duck.

Replays show that Smith was unlucky to be given out as the ball looked to be missing the leg stump by a long way. That was a poor decision from umpire Richard Illingworth as Chennai suffer an early blow.

Faf du Plessis gets off the mark with a single and Hussey takes one from the last ball as just two runs come from the first over.

21:51   Pollard's attack powers Mumbai Indians to 187

However, Bravo gets revenge from the next ball as Pollard mishits it down the ground and is caught at long-off after a quickfire innings of 41 from 17 balls, having hit one four and five sixes.

Just two singles from the last two balls but Mumbai Indians finish on a healthy 187 for six in their 20 overs.

Mumbai paced their innings to perfection as 86 runs came from the first 10 overs, while the next 10 went for 101 runs.

If any team that is capable of chasing down this huge total, it is definitely Chennai with the huge and explosive batting line-up at their disposal.

Jadeja comes back and he strikes with the key wicket of Simmons, who goes over the off-side but ends up getting caught at sweeper cover.

The right-hander walks back to a standing ovation after an excellent innings of 65 from 51 balls, having hit three fours and five sixes.

That was a big wicket for Chennai but out walks the dangerous Kieron Pollard, who also gets a good reception from his home crowd.

Rohit keeps the tempo going as he comes down and lofts the last ball of the over straight down the ground for a six.
20:55   Parthiv out for 52, Mumbai lose 1st wicket

Mumbai 91-1 (11 ovs) vs Chennai | Scorecard

CSK are desperate for a breakthrough as they bring in all-rounder Dwayne Bravo into the attack.

And he does the job in his very first over with the wicket of Parthiv, who hits one straight into the hands of Jadeja at long-off.

Parthiv walks back after a good innings of 35 from 25 balls, after putting on 90 runs from 64 balls for the opening wicket with Simmons.

That also helps Bravo complete the milestone of 100 wickets in his IPL career. He is the only player to complete a double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets -- 1134 runs and 100 wickets in his 89th IPL match.

A superb start for Bravo, conceding just five runs while making the opening breakthrough.
20:47   Simmons blasts fifty as openers put Mumbai in control

Mumbai 86-0 (10 ovs) vs Chennai | Scorecard

Parthiv comes down the track and slogs Negi's first ball over midwicket for a six. The next ball is short and wide which the left-hander hammers through the covers for a four.

Parthiv goes after the third ball, which is full and wide, but gets a bottom edge which goes through Dhoni's legs for a four.

He smashes the next one straight back at the bowler, who barely has time to react but does well to get his hand and stop some runs.

Just one over for Jadeja before he makes way for pacer Mohit Sharma. He is welcomed to the crease with a boundary as Simmons drive the first ball through the gap in the covers.

He cuts the next ball as veteran Michael Hussey half stops it at point to give away a single.

Mohit beats Simmons, who looks to steer it fine on the off-side but misses. He turns the next ball on the leg side for two runs to race to his fifty, from 38 balls.

Mumbai Indians in control at the halfway stage as they reach 86 for no loss in 10 overs.

Two balls later, the West Indian jumps down the track but Nehra adjusts well and bowls a quick bouncer which the batsman does well to avoid.

A heavily packed off-side field for Simmons who manages to turn the fourth ball square on the leg side for two runs.

Simmons again gives Nehra the charge who bowls a high full toss which the MI opener edges behind to Dhoni and the umpires call it a no-ball for being above the waist.

Mumbai have failed to break free at the start as they reach 22 for no loss in four overs.

Ashwin will continue as he comes on to bowl his third over on the trot.

Parthiv takes a single from the first ball before Simmons lofts the third straight back over the bowler's head for the first six of the match. Two balls later he slogs a full delivery over midwicket for another maximum as Mumbai get a move along.

19:14   Formidable Chennai face Mumbai Indians for final spot
Welcome to the Qualifier 1 match of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, on Tuesday.

Both teams will be desperate for a victory, which will ensure a direct passage to the final at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, on May 24.

While the team that loses the match will get a second opportunity to enter the summit clash by taking on the winners of the May 20 Eliminator at Pune between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Second Qualifier at Ranchi on May 22.

Chennai will be without dashing opener Brendon McCullum but expect nothing less than a high-octane encounter.

Two-time winners Chennai will have to forge a new opening combination in the high-pressure game following the departure of McCullum to play in the Test series against England commencing on May 21.

With his belligerent stroke-play, the New Zealander has been the franchises highest scorer this season with a tally of 436 runs followed by West Indian Dwayne Smith (325 runs).

Mumbai's bowling is a force to reckon with as Lasith Malinga and left-armer McClenaghan -- easily the find of the season for MI with his swing, pace and bounce -- have forged a deadly combination, grabbing 19 and 14 wickets respectively.

MI's batting, in contrast, has taken on a well-established look and would be difficult to stop once it gets going on a track that generally encourages aggressive stroke-play.

Openers Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons, who has notched up an impressive tally of 407 in only 11 out of 14 games, are in excellent nick going into the match.

The duo, thus, appear well-placed to take on the rival new ball formation of left-armer Ashish Nehra, who is the spearhead of Super Kings with 18 wickets, along with Mohit Sharma.

They would be followed by captain Rohit Sharma, big-hitting West Indian Kieron Pollard, the consistent Ambati Rayudu and the ebullient Hardik Pandya.
