23:30   Pollard, Rohit blast Mumbai Indians to victory

MUMBAI INDIANS WIN BY 6 WKTS!

Mumbai 178-4 (18 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Narine comes back to bowl his fourth and final over with the match firmly in Mumbai's grasp now. Narine makes a good start, giving two singles from his first four balls before Rohit makes up for it by sweeping it for a four and then takes one to retain strike.

Pollard and Rohit have taken the match away from KKR, putting on a quickfire stand of 50 runs from just 24 balls.

Left-arm pacer Unadkat comes into the attack. Pollard drives a full toss straight down the ground for two runs before he smashes a length delivery over midwicket for a six to bring the target down to single digits.

He dismisses the next ball again over long-on for another mightysix to race to 45 form 15 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes.

Two balls later, Pollard hits another big six over long-off, his third in a row, to power Mumbai Indians to a convincing six-wicket victory with 12 balls to spare.

Pollard finishes unbeaten on a quickfire knock of 51 from 17 balls, while Rohit carries his bat through for a superb knock of 68 from 49 balls.

An amazing exhibition of power-hitting from Pollard, who once again proves why he is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the T20 format.

He and Rohit left KKR's bowlers stunned as they hammered an unbeaten stand of 72 runs from just five overs to carry their team to victory.

Mumbai had a horror day in the field as they dropped as many as three catches and missed a stumping but did well to restrict KKR to 174 after they had gotten off to a blazing start.

23:13   Pollard's assault brings Mumbai closer to victory

Mumbai 149-4 (16 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Medium pacer Satish comes back and suffers at the hands of Pollard, who smashes him for three huge sixes. The medium pacer feels the pressure as he bowls two wides going for 23 runs in his second over, which has all but secured the match in Mumbai's favour.

The third ball was hit straight back over the bowler's head before Pollard hit two huge sixes over midwicket as Satish's medium pace bowling proved to be easy fodder for the tall West Indian.

Mumbai in control on 156 for four in 17 overs, with 19 needed from three overs for victory.
23:04   Rohit hits half-century to keep Mumbai in the hunt

Mumbai 126-4 (15 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Russell comes back and goes for runs again. Rohit hits him for two boundaries through the off-side to get 10 from the over and keep up with the asking rate.

Shakib is called back to bowls his fourth and final over. Pollard smashes the first ball back over the bowler's head for a four and three balls later he flicks it through midwicket for another boundary.

After 15 overs Mumbai are looking comfortable on 126 for five in 15 overs, with another 49 runs needed from five overs for victory.

Rohit is timing the chase to perfection, having hit 60 from 41 balls, while Pollard is looking dangerous on 10 from seven balls.
22:57   Buttler out for 15, Mumbai Indians in trouble

Mumbai 106-4 (13 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Narine comes back into the attack. He starts with four dot balls to Buttler, who then hits the fifth ball through midwicket for a four. But the bowler gets revenge from the last ball as Buttler attempts a big hit down the ground but Lynn comes up with a stunning catch at long-off to send back the England batsman for 15.

An exact replay of the catch Lynn took a few seasons ago. The Australian did well to hold on to a high catch but the momentum carried him over the ropes as he did well to throw the ball back before recovering his balance and completing the catch in time. The catch was referred to the television umpire, who ruled in KKR's favour.

Superb bowling from Narine, who has good figures of two for 15 in three overs.

Just like KKR, Mumbai also struggling to keep up the momentum in the middle overs.

The hosts are 106 for four in 13 overs, with 69 needed from seven overs for victory.

22:48   Rohit hits 36-ball half-century to keep Mumbai in the hunt

Mumbai 102-3 (12 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Andre Russell comes into the attack. Jos Buttler gets off the mark with a single from the third ball before Rohit turns the next ball through the leg side for a four and takes one from the last ball.

At the halfway stage, Mumbai are 85 for three in 10 overs, with another 90 needed from the last 10 overs for victory at exactly nine runs per over.

Rohit, who is batting on 43 from 31 balls, holds the key, while they would also be looking towards Buttler to score some quick runs in the middle overs.

Shakib comes back and sends down another tidy over, giving away just six runs for a total of one for 20 in thee overs.

Buttler gets his first boundary as he slashes the first ball from Russell square on the off-side for a four and then takes one. Russell drops short as Rohit pulls it over midwicket for a four to bring up MI's 100, in the 12th over.

He looks to paddle the next ball but fails to make proper connection as he takes a single to bring up his fifty from just 36 balls.
22:34   Pandya dismissed for 6, Mumbai lose 3rd wicket

Mumbai 78-3 (9 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Medium pacer Rajagopal Sathish comes into the attack. New batsman Krunal Pandya steers the second ball square on the off-side for a four to get off the mark in positive fashion.

Pandya survives a close shout for stumping as wicketkeeper Uthappa does well to whip off the bails but the benefit of doubt goes to the batsman after a long review by the third umpire.

But the senior Pandya falls in the next over. He skips down the track to Narine but misses the ball completely and is bowled for six.

Mumbai are reduced to 78 for three in nine overs, with another 97 runs needed from 11 overs for victory.
22:24   Rayudu falls for 32, Mumbai lose 2nd wicket

Mumbai 68-2 (7 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Shakib strikes in his comeback over with the wicket of Rayudu, who is caught at deep midwicket courtesy of a good sharp catch from Yadav just inside the ropes.

Yadav did well to run to his right and hold on to a good catch while maintaining his balance inches inside the boundary.

Rayudu walks back after a good innings of 32 from 20 balls after he put on 59 runs from 34 balls for the second wicket with Rohit.

Good stuff from Shakib to break the dangerous partnership which conceding just four runs in his second over.

22:19   Rohit, Rayudu rally Mumbai Indians after an early wicket

Mumbai 64-1 (6 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Rohit looks in good touch as he crashes a short wide delivery from Yadav square on the off-side for his first four. The next ball is fuller and this time Rohit plays a beautiful drive through the covers for another boundary as 11 runs come from Yadav's second over.

Shakib is taken off after going for runs in his first over as he makes way for Sunil Narine. Rohit sweeps the second ball behind square on the leg side for a four coupled with four singles as eight come from the spinner's first over.

Unadkat comes back. He starts with a poor ball, a rank long hop which Rohit pulls handsomely over square leg for a six and Rayudu repeats the shot two balls later for a four.

Rayudu then steers a wide delivery through thirdman for a four to raise the 50-run stand for the second wicket from just 27 balls. He plays the same shot off the next ball to make it four boundaries in the over, including the six.

Unadkat has gone for 19 runs in his second over as Mumbai race to 64 for one in six overs with Rohit on 30 from 17 balls and Rayudu on 31 from 17 balls.

22:09   Mumbai lose early wicket, Parthiv out for 1

Mumbai 26-1 (3 ovs) vs KKR 174-5 | SCORECARD

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat opens the bowling for KKR. Rohit Sharma pulls the second ball over the square leg region for a six followed by two singles as eight runs come from the first over.

Umesh Yadav to bowl the second over. He strikes with his first delivery of the match as Parthiv chases a wide delivery but gets an edge and is caught by Pathan at first slip for one.

New batsman Ambati Rayudu gets off the mark with a boundary as he flicks a full delivery on his pads through the leg side as eight runs come from the second over.

Spin introduced early as left-armer Shakib Al Hasan comes into the attack. He starts with three dot balls before Rayudu smashes it straight back for a four. He heaves the fifth ball over midwicket for a six as Shakib concedes 10 runs in his first over.

21:38   Gambhir hits half-century to steer KKR to 174 vs MI

KKR 174-5 (20 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Yusuf Pathan gets off the mark with a beautiful drive through the covers for a four and hits another boundary off the next ball through square leg to get off the blocks in smashing fashion.

Lynn, on two, gets a lifeline as Southee puts down a straightfoward chance at deep square leg. The Kiwi paceman makes it two in two as this time he puts down Pathan and both times, it is his New Zealand team mate McClenaghan, who is at the receiving end. Interestingly, McClenaghan also put down a simple catch early on, so the Kiwis are not having a good day in the field.

Infact, Southee not only dropped Pathan but also let the ball through for a four. Two balls later, Pathan pulls a short ball perfectly in the gap for another four.

McClenaghan finishes with one for 33 in four overs and will feel unlucky that he didn't end up with a few more wickets.

Bumrah to bowl the final over. Lynn heaves the first ball over the leg side but Hardik Pandya does well to flick the ball as he falls over after taking the catch to keep it down to two runs. Lynn hit the next two balls for successive doubles before he is beaten by a yorker and then picks one.

The last ball is a full toss but Pathan can only get a single as KKR finish on a healthy 174 for five in their 20 overs.

21:24   Russell falls for 22 as Mumbai fight back with the ball

KKR 145-5 (17.2 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Mumbai's bowlers have a plan against Russell, to bowl a lot of short balls to him. Bumrah bowls a quick bouncer which Russell looks to pull but gets a top edge fine on the leg side for a four.

The next ball is full as Bumrah misses the yorker and Russell smashes it straight down the ground for another boundary.

The West Indian then has a big swing at one outside the off-stump which flies fine over the off-side for the third four of the over.

Bumrah is unlucky as despite bowling a good testing over, he ends up giving away 13 runs but that is the nature of T20 cricket.

Russell throwing his bat at everything but not getting the required power or timing. Southee ends his innings as the right-hander misses a straight full delivery and is bowled for 22 from 16 balls.
21:18   Yadav dismissed for 21 as KKR lose way after a good start

KKR 130-4 (16 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

McClenaghan's strike makes MI bring back another pacer in the form of Bumrah, who bowls a superb over as he gives away just four runs.

West Indian Andre Russell is threatening to break free and is going hard at the bowlers but so far he hasn't been able to get his timing right. McClenaghan has one over in hand but he is taken off as he makes way for Southee, who also has two overs remaining.

He bowls a good yorker to Russell, who digs it out on the leg side and gets two runs. The next ball is a bouncer which he ducks under and then glances the fourth ball but McClengaghan diving stop saves a certain boundary.

The pressure pays off as Yadav top edges as he looks to swing it over the leg side and is caught on the off-side after scoring 21 from 17 balls.

New batsman Chris Lynn, playing his first match in IPL 9, gets a bouncer first up which he ducks under.

KKR losing their way in the middle overs, with two wickets falling in the last 12 balls for the addition of just nine runs.

21:06   Gambhir out for 59, KKR lose 3rd wicket

KKR 122-3 (14 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Gambhir goes after spinner Krunal Pandya as he comes down the track and lofts the left-arm spinner wide of long-on for a six. He repeats the shot off the next ball but fails to enough elevation as he gets a four which takes him past the 50-run mark, from just 39 balls. This is Gambhir's third half-century from six games in IPL 9.

An expensive over for MI as Pandya gives away 15 runs in the 13th over.

McClenaghan comes back with Mumbai desperate for a wicket to keep KKR's total within control. The Kiwi pacer attempts a bouncer which Gambhir looks to pull but gets a top edge which flies over short fine leg for a four. However, three balls the Kiwi fast bowler gets the wicket of Gambhir as the left-hander chips it straight to Pollard at mid-off to be dismissed after a good innings of 59 from 45 balls.
20:56   Gambhir, Yadav take KKR past the 100-run mark

KKR 101-2 (12 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Hardik Pandya makes way for elder brother Krunal, who bowls left-arm spin and has put in a few good performances with the ball this season.

He makes a good start, giving away just six runs in his first over.

Harbhajan will finish off early as he continues to bowl his final and fourth over on the trot. The spinners have been able to pull back things after KKR's fiery start and the flow of boundaries have stopped.

Three singles from four balls before Harbhajan bowls a full toss which Yadav sweeps through the vacant fine leg region for a four to bring up KKR's 100, in the 12th over.

Harbhajan finishes a good spell, taking one for 32 in four overs.

KKR were 59 for no loss after six overs, and have scored 42 runs from the next six overs, losing two wickets in the process.
20:47   Mumbai check KKR's progress with two quick wickets

KKR 87-2 (10 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

New batsman Shakib Al Hasan throws his bat at a wide delivery from Hardik Pandya but gets a thick outside edge for a boundary through the thirdman region. Four balls later, Hardik finds the edge again as Shakib has a huge swing and this time it goes straight to wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

Two wickets in two overs as Mumbai check KKR after their quickfire start as they are reduced to 78 for two in nine overs, losing two wickets for 11 runs in the last two overs.

Harbhajan, who has bowled two good overs, continues. Gambhir is struggling to read him as once again he inside edges the straighter ball, playing down the wrong line. This is the third time in three overs that the KKR captain has been deceived by that delivery.

Local boy Suryakumar Yadav sweeps the fifth ball over short fine leg for his first boundary and keeps strike with a single from the last ball.

At the halfway stage, KKR have reach 87 for two in 10 overs, with Gambhir on 36 from 31 balls and Yadav on eight from five balls.
20:37   Harbhajan strikes as KKR lose Uthappa after a good start

KKR 71-1 (8 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Medium pacer Hardik Pandy comes into the attack. Gambhir swings the second ball on the leg side for a four as eight runs come from the seventh over.

Uthappa, on 35, gets a lifeline as wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel messes up an easy stumping. Uthappa came down the track to Harbhajan but was struck on the pads as the ball rolled across to Parthiv, who failed to collect the ball cleanly.

But Harbhajan finally gets the wicket as Uthappa is unable to time a full toss and is caught at long-off after a quickfire 36 from 20 balls after he had put on 69 runs from 46 balls for the opening wicket with Gambhir to lay a good foundation for his team.

20:27   Openers Uthappa, Gambhir give KKR a flying start vs MI

KKR 59-0 (6 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

McClenaghan continues despite bowling an expensive first over. KKR doing well to keep the scoreboard moving, with three singles from the first three balls before Uthappa pulls a short ball over midwicket for two runs as Jos Buttler puts in a last minute dive to save a certain four.

This is a good over from McClenaghan under the circumstances as he gives away just six runs.

Southee, who gave 21 runs in his first two overs, makes way for Jasprit Bumrah. Uthappa does not waste any time in going after the youngster as he slams the second ball straight down the ground over mid-on for a six. He looks to have the next ball across the line but gets a thick inside edge past short fine leg for two runs followed by two more singles as Bumrah goes for 10 runs in his first over.

Spin introduced as the exprienced Harbhajan Singh comes into the attack in place of McClenaghan, who bowled two overs for 17 runs.

Gambhir nearly holes out to the first ball but it falls just short of Kieron Pollard at long-off. The next ball is short as Uthappa pulls it over midwicket for a six, his second in successive overs to take KKR past the 50-run mark, in the sixth over.

Gambhir has a mighty swing against old friend Harbhajan but fails to make connection before playing a nice drive through the covers for two runs.

The flow of runs continues Harbhajan goes for 11 in his first over with KKR racing to 59 for no loss in six overs, with Gambhir on 25 from 21 balls and Uthappa smashing 33 from 15 balls.
image
20:16   KKR off to a quickfire start against Mumbai Indians

KKR 32-0 (3 ovs) vs Mumbai | SCORECARD

Left-arm pacer Mitchell McClenaghan to bowl the second over. The first ball is full and slightly wide as Gambhir merely taps it on the off-side but places it perfectly in the gap through the covers for the first boundary of the match. The next is a bit short and Gambhir pulls it to deep square leg for just a single.

The ball is coming nicely on to the bat. This time Uthappa pushes it in the gap on the off-side but gets three runs courtesy of some sharp fielding as Ambati Rayudu puts in the slide to save a four.

McClenaghan struggling to find his rhythm early on. Again he gives some width as Gambhir carves it over the off-side for two runs.

Gambhir (8) looks to swing the last ball across the line but gets a leading edge which McClenaghan calls for and to everyone's horror puts down the simplest of catches, it takes a minute or two to recover from that shock. That was one of the easiest catches to have been put down and it remains to be seen how much it costs Mumbai, with Gambhir being in good form in the last few matches for KKR.

He immediately makes MI feel the pain as he straight drives Southee past mid-on for a four and has a big swing at the next but only for a single to deep square leg.

Uthappa joins in the act as he lofts a full delivery from Southee over mid-off for his first four. He pulls the next ball through midwicket for three runs before Gambhir hits the next behind square on the leg side for a four, the third of the over.

KKR are off to a quickfire start, as they race to 32 for no loss in three overs with Southee conceding 17 runs in his second over.

20:03

New Zealand pacer Tim Southee to open the bowling for hosts Mumbai Indians, who are playing their final game in front of their home fans at the Wankhede stadium.

Southee getting the ball to move away from left-hander Gambhir, lets one go before looking to drive the next but is beaten. Gambhir gets off the mark with a single to square leg and Uthappa turns the last ball through midwicket for two runs as four runs come from the first over.

18:01
Talking about the match, the odds are in favour of the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders as they square off against defending champions Mumbai Indians, who are experiencing a campaign that is oscillating between the high and low.

KKR and MI are the two teams that have clinched the honours alternately in the glamorous T20 league over the last four editions.

With the form shown thus far in the tournament by the two outfits, the match at the Wankhede Stadium promises an engaging battle.

KKR are on a roll with four successive victories in five games.

Interestingly, their lone defeat this season, by six wickets, had come at the Eden Gardens against the Rohit Sharma-inspired Mumbai Indians on April 13.

The Knight Riders have travelled well this season and also been led brilliantly by opener Gautam Gambhir, the fulcrum of their batting who aggregates 237 runs from five games.

Mumbai Indians, at the other end of the spectrum, have had a mixed bag of results so far, victories coming in between losses. They go into the game with confidence restored following a 25-run victory over Kings XI Punjab at Mohali on Monday.

MI have a superb 17-5 all-time win-loss record against KKR, their last loss having come in their opening game of the last season at Eden Gardens before they turned around the fortunes and raced to the title.

17:59   Unpredictable Mumbai Indians face high-flying KKR
Welcome to the coverage of 24th match of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai, on Thursday.

This will the last home match for the defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium. The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected pleas of the Mumbai Cricket Association and the Maharashtra Cricket Association against the Bombay high court's order to shift the Indian Premier League matches out of drought-hit Maharashtra after May 1.

The dismissal of the petition will lead to shifting of nine matches which were to be played at the homegrounds of IPL franchises -- Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants, including the final in Mumbai on May 29 and the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 match in Pune on May 25 and May 27 respectively. The Bombay high court had last week allowed the May 1 match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune to be staged, as the BCCI had said it would not be able to make arrangements to shift the match to another venue in a single day.

The Bombay high court had on April 13 ordered shifting  of all IPL matches scheduled in Maharashtra after April 30 to another state in view of the severe drought in the state. Kings XI Punjab, who were scheduled to play three of their home games in Nagpur in May had accepted the high court decision to shift their matches out of the state.
