A superb knock from Buttler, who battled at the start, before playing a few shots to reach 64 not out at the lunch interval, hitting six fours in his 122-ball knock, while No. 10 batsman Jake Ball played a handy knock of 29.

The two batsmen were involved in an unbroken stand of 51 runs for the ninth wicket to take England closer to the 400-run mark.

India's spinners claimed three wickets in the session but England were able to build their score as they added 97 runs in 31 overs.

Ashwin dismissed Stokes for 31 to complete his five-wicket haul, while Jadeja bagged the wickets of Woakes (11) and Rashid (4) in the morning session.

India will be hoping to finish off England as soon as possible on a pitch where the second innings could be quite to difficult to bat on.
