With so much rain a couple of hours back in Mirpur, there is expected to be a bit of help for the seamers early on.

Dhoni resisted the temptation of bringing in an extra seamer, instead preferring to play with the settled unit which has been on a good run in the last couple of months.

20:33   India vs Bangladesh final to start at 2100 IST
The start of play is not that far with the umpires conducting another inspection before deciding that the final will begin at 2100 IST.

The toss has been scheduled for 2040 IST. Matthew Hayden reckons the pitch will be a good one for batsmen and is loaded full of runs.

The match will be 15 overs per side while the innings break will only be for 10 minutes.

Each bowler can bowl a maximum of three overs.
20:05
The umpires have confirmed that they will have another inspection at 2015 hours IST before deciding on when play will start.

As of now, the groundstaff are working hard on some wet patches on the outfield.

But most parts of the ground look ready for play as both teams are warming up. The Indians as usual are playing their normal warm-up game of keep up football as the crowd also start pouring into the stadium.
19:57
Well, the groundstaff have done an amazing job in no time and all the covers have disappeared from the middle almost instantly.

The ground looks dry at the moment, infact quite ready for play, as if it never rained here. The umpires are conducting an inspection out in the middle while the players have also started to warm up on the sidelines.

So, it looks like the start of play is not that far.
image
19:27   Rain delays start of India vs Bangladesh final
The rain has stopped and the groundstaff have converged out on to the middle in huge number and started working on the wet patches in the outfield.

Apparently, the umpire will conduct an inspection of the conditions at 2000 hours IST before taking a decision on when the toss can take place, provided there is no further rain.
18:55
The rain is not relenting yet which means the wait for the play to get underway continues in Mirpur.

We will start losing overs from 2000 hours IST and the cut-off time for a five-over game is 2217 hours IST, so we still got a lot of time in hand at the moment.

If play doesn't start then the two teams will share the trophy.
18:28   Heavy rain delays start of India vs Bangladesh final
The start of play has been delayed as the rain continues to pour in Mirpur. There is no news of the toss yet which was scheduled to take place at 1830 IST.

There is a lot of water on the ground at the moment with the water now flowing from the covers on to the uncovered parts of the outfield.
image
18:11   Heavy rain set to delay start of India vs Bangladesh final
Heavy downpour accompanied by thundershowers threatened to play spoilsport in the final.

The much-hyped final saw an anti-climax of sorts when there was a slight drizzle in the beginning with groundsmen covering the pitch area.

However just as they started removing the covers, there was a sudden thunderstorm, which saw the TV crew commentators and players sprinting to the confines of the shade with the heavy pitch cover being blown away.

The stadium plunged to darkness as the lights also went off.

In case of no play, the trophy will be shared as both teams are scheduled to leave for India on Monday to take part in the upcoming World T20.

"Oh boy.... not what we wanted.. heavy rain in Mirpur #AsiaCupT20Final," tweeted Sri Lankan commentator Russel Arnold.

17:59   Asia Cup: Unbeaten India start as favourites vs Bangladesh in final
In-form India would look to continue their recent winning run as they take on a confident Bangladesh in the final of the Asia Cup in Dhaka, on Sunday.

While Indias team director Ravi Shastri has termed it as yet another match, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza called India as clear favourites to relieve pressure from his young side in the title clash.

"We all know that Indians are clear favourites in the final. Let there be no debates or discussions on that," Mashrafe said on Saturday.

India have been in rampaging form with four convincing wins in the tournament, including the 45-run thumping of Bangladesh in their opening league match.

He said that the league match which India won by 45 runs will have little bearing on tomorrow's final. But paceman Mustafizur's absence should be a challenge for others to stand up and be counted.

"Had we won that first match by 200 runs, it would have mattered little on Sunday. I don't think that would have in anyway helped me as a captain. But yes when we are playing without Mustafiz, it means we are without our best bowler. But this means, as a team we have to take the challenge and other bowlers need to step up and show that we can be good enough without our best bowler," he said.
