Ben Cutting's superb all-round showing and captain David Warner's quickfire half-century helped Sunrisers Hyderbad beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs to win their maiden Indian Premier League title, in Bengaluru, on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Sunrisers scored a massive 208 for seven in their 20 overs. In reply, RCB finished on 200 for seven despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli (76) and Chris Gayle (54).

The death bowling has made all the difference. Sunrisers smashed 52 runs from the last three overs courtesy of Cutting's late fireworks, while RCB managed just 21 runs from the last three overs.

Captain Warner led from the front, scoring 848 runs from 17 matches with nine half-centuries to guide Sunrisers to their maiden IPL title.

At one stage, RCB were in control as they were cruising on 140 for one in the 13th over before Sunrisers staged a superb comeback by claiming wickets at regular intervals.

But the man who made the difference was Ben Cutting as he smashed 39 from 15 balls, while taking the big wicket of Chris Gayle after he had smashed 76 from 38 balls.

Fizz bowls a dot ball as Jordan is beaten attempting a cross batted slog. The next ball is a full toss as Jordan is struck on the pads and gets just a leg bye.

Mustafizur bowls a high full toss which Sachin drives down the ground but Warner puts it in the dive at long-on to keep it down to two runs.

23:02   Kohli and de Villiers dismissed as Sunrisers fight back

RCB 149-3 (14 ovs) vs Sunrisers 208-7 | Scorecard

Left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma comes into the attack. Kohli slaps the second ball through midwicket for a four to take his IPL career tally to 4099 runs and go past Suresh Raina for the most runs in the history of IPL.

Other than the four, Kohli and AB de Villiers pick singles off the remaining five deliveries to keep the momentum going.

Kohli comes down, makes room before hitting another cracking inside out lofted shot for a six to race to his fifty in grand style, from 32 balls.

Kohli then turns the third ball to deep square leg for two runs before he turns the next to midwicket for another couple.

But Sran gets revenge with the BIG wicket of Kohli, who is bowled for 54. He again tries to hit it through the off-side but gets an inside edge back on to his stumps.

Kohli misses the 1000-run mark, but ends the tournament with a massive record tally of 973 runs from 16 matches at an average of 81 with a strike rate of 152, having hit four hundreds and seven fifties.

KL Rahul sweeps left-arm spinner square on the leg side as Bhuvi makes a poor effort at fine leg to give away a four.

However, RCB suffer another big blow as AB de Villiers miscues the lofted shot down the ground and is caught at mid-off for five.

The crowd has been stunned into silence as Kohli and AB perish within seven deliveries as RCB are reduced to 149 for three in 14 overs, needing another 60 runs from six overs for victory.

22:47   Gayle dismissed for 38-ball 76, RCB lose 1st wicket

RCB 120-1 (11 ovs) vs Sunrisers 208-7 | Scorecard

Mustafizur is called back into the attack. This time it is Kohli, who comes down the track and hits a full toss through the covers for a four. The RCB captain makes room and comes down again before he lofts the next ball straight down the ground and gets enough elevation and distance to get it over long-off for a six.

Fizz bowls a good bouncer to Gayle, who opts to sway out of the way before taking a quiet single.

12 runs from the over as RCB reach 112 for no loss in 10 overs, with Gayle on 75 from 36 balls and Kohli on 31 from 24 balls. They need another 97 runs from the remaining 10 overs for victory with all 10 wickets in hand.

Kohli gets a thick outside edge off Cutting as Mustafizur at short thirdman makes a good effort but fails to hold on.

However, Cutting strikes with the next ball and gets the wicket of the dangerman Gayle. The left-hander was done in by the slower ball as he looks to heave it across the line but ends up getting a thick outside edge to be caught at thirdman fence.

Gayle, though, has put RCB in the driver's seat courtesy of his blazing innings of 76 from 38 balls, having hit four fours and eight sixes, putting on 114 runs for the opening wicket from just 63 balls.
22:36   Gayle's attack gives RCB a flying start after Sunrisers post 208

RCB 100-0 (9 ovs) vs Sunrisers 208-7 | Scorecard

Cutting mixing his pace, trying to keep Gayle guessing. But he is not letting any opportunity go by as he clubs another length ball straight into the sightscreen for his sixth six, as it continues to rain boundaries at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

In the next over, Kohli comes down the track and chips Henriques down the ground as Warner does well to dive forward and attempt the catch but he fails to get to the ball and also ends up giving away a boundary.

Henriques then suffers at the hands Gayle, who blasts him for successive sixes over long-off and midwicket, to race to 70 from 33 balls.

Poor bowling from Henriques as he bowls another short wide delivery which Gayle hammers over the covers for a four.

No stopping Gayle, who has smashed 74 from 33 balls, to power RCB to 100 for no loss in nine overs. Kohli has been a silent spectator from the other end, scoring 20 from as many balls.

They need another 109 runs from 11 overs for victory at under 10 runs per over.

Don't bowl length to Gayle but Moises Henriques does just that as the tall left-hander hammers the first ball from the medium pacer straight down the ground for a six, to race to his fifty, from just 25 balls, having hit three fours and five sixes.

Kohli is also looking in good touch as he plays a nice drive through the covers for two runs to the fielder in the deep. He repeats the shot off the last ball but this time gets just a single as 10 runs come from the seventh over.
22:20   Gayle's attack gives RCB a flying start after Sunrisers post 208

Gayle has a mighty swing against Sran but fails to make connection. However, he gets the next ball of the middle, heaving a length delivery over midwicket for a six.

Sran again beats him as the tall West Indian goes after a length ball but again is beaten. The next ball is slower and Gayle reads it early, before he swings it over midwicket for a four.

Sran bowls a full delivery on the pads which Gayle flicks it and sends it into the crowd over square leg for a six.

Sran goes for 16 runs in his second over as RCB race to 42 for no loss in four overs.

First bowling change for Sunrisers as Ben Cutting, who played a smashing innings with the bat, comes into the attack. He replaces Bhuvneshwar, who bowled a good first spell of just 11 runs from two overs.

Gayle is on fire at the moment. He upper cuts a short ball from Cutting over the thirdman fence for a six before swatting the next through midwicket for a four.

The openers raise the 50-run stand from 4.4 overs with Gayle smashing 42 from 21 balls and Kohli chipping in with just six runs.

After five overs, RCB have raced to 55 for no loss in five overs, going at 11 runs per over.

Sunrisers are desperate for a wicket and they bring in their best bowler, Mustafizur Rahman, also fondly referred to as the 'Fizz'.

Kohli looks in no rush as he defends the first two balls from Rahman before taking a single to bring Gayle back on strike.

Gayle also picks one before Kohli takes two runs from the last ball to take RCB to 59 for no loss in six overs. They have made the perfect start but they still need another 150 runs from 14 overs for victory.

21:41   Cutting's late assault propels Sunrisers to 208 in final

Sunrisers 208-7 (20 ovs) vs RCB | Scorecard

David Warner smashed 69 from 28 balls, while Ben Cutting blasted a quickfire 39 from 15 balls to power Sunrisers Hyderabad to a massive 208 for seven in their 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore, in the IPL final, in Bengaluru, on Sunday.

Cutting cut loose in style in the final few overs, hitting three fours and four sixes in his 15-ball knock.

208 is the highest ever score made by a team batting first in the IPL final.

Watson went for 24 runs in his final over to finish with expensive figures none for 61 in four overs, while Jordan took three wickets but also went for runs, giving away three for 51 in his four overs.

At one stage Sunrisers looked set to finish around the 180-run mark after a flurry of wickets in the middle before Cutting's late cameo changed the script.

But if any batting line-up is capable of chasing down this huge total in a big final, it has to be RCB, comprising of the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle.

Stay tuned for the run-chase which will come up shortly.

Cutting has raced to 26 from 12 balls as Sunrisers finally get some momentum after a regular fall of wickets in the last few overs.

Watson drops short as Cutting this time pulls it over midwicket for a six, he is playing a blinder for SH to bring up the 200-run mark.

Watson to bowl the 18th over. He bowls from round the wicket and looks for yorkers on the stumps as he starts with two consecutive wides down the leg side to Ben Cutting.

Warner drives the second ball, a full toss, straight down the ground for a four. But the bowler gets revenge as Warner slashes at a wide delivery but gets a thick outside edge and is taken by Abdulla on the edge of the fence.

That wicket will surely deal a big hopes to SH's hopes of posting a total well in excess of 200.

But with Yuvraj out in the middle and a few attacking batsmen to follow, they can surely look for a big total on a good batting wicket.

Yuvraj shows his class as he blasts Chahal straight down the ground, over long-off, for his second six. The next ball is overpitched as Yuvraj plays another gorgeous drive, through the covers for a four.

Chahal goes for 13 runs in his final over to finish with one for 35 in his four over as Sunrisers reach 140 for three in 15 overs.

Yuvraj has already got off to start, racing to 32 from 19 balls, with three fours and two sixes.
20:57   Warner slams half-century to put Sunrisers on top

Sunrisers 120-2 (13 ovs) vs RCB | Scorecard

Watson, who got off to an expensive start, comes back as he replaces Chahal, who took one for 18 in two overs.

He makes a good comeback, giving away just two runs in his first five balls. But Yuvraj spoils the over as he plays a cracking drive through the covers to end the over with a four.

Yuvraj shows his intent right at the start. In the next over, he makes Jordan suffer for bowling on his pads as he flicks the second ball of the 12th over through square leg for a four.

The next ball is clipped uppishly as it goes all the way behind square on the leg side for a six as 13 runs come from the over.

Another one over spell before Chahal is brought back as the leg-spinner does well to keep it tight, conceding just four runs in his third over.

But Jordan brings some relief to RCB with the wicket of Moises Henriques, who gets a leading edge and is caught on the leg side for four.

The leg-spinner strikes in his very first over with the wicket of Dhawan. The left-hander goes for the sweep but holes out to Chris Jordan at deep midwicket to be dismissed for 28 from 25 balls.

Sunrisers 59-0 (6 ovs) vs RCB | Scorecard

The first ball is full and slightly wide as Warner gets down on one knee and smashes it over the off-side to welcome his countryman to the bowling crease with a six.

Two balls later Dhawan smacks it straight back over the bowler's head for a six before Warner slashes a wide delivery through point for a four.

He takes a single from the last ball to retain strike and also bring up his 800 runs in the tournament.

Having given just 11 runs in his first two overs, Gayle continues. He is bowling it flat and quick but ends up giving a wide to Dhawan before the left-hander sweeps the next ball fine on the leg side for a four.

Warner ends the over with another big hit as he slog sweeps it for a six.

A good start for Sunrisers as they race to 59 for no loss in six overs with Dhawan on 25 from 22 balls and Warner smashing 31 from 14 balls.

Warner has no problems though despatching the next ball perfectly in the gap through the covers for his first boundary. The next ball is short as Warner pulls it over midwicket to end the over with another boundary.

Gayle continues as he keeps firing it on the stumps as he looks to keep the batsmen down to singles. Just two singles from the first four balls before Dhawan makes up for it, smashing the fifth delivery straight back over the bowler's head for a four as SH reach 27 for no loss in four overs.
20:10

19:23   All eyes on Kohli and Warner as RCB take on Sunrisers in final
Welcome to the coverage of the final of the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru, on Sunday.

Virat Kohli's inspirational leadership for Royal Challengers Bangalore will be up against the brute force with which David Warner has steered Sunrisers Hyderabad when the two teams, eyeing their maiden IPL title, square off in a high-intensity summit clash.

RCB, however, will have a slight advantage over Sunrisers as they have the experience of playing in an IPL final twice in the past -- 2009 and 2011, but on both occasions, they had finished runners-up.

Sunrisers' best finish was a play-off berth which they managed in their debut season in 2013.

RCB witnessed a topsy-turvy campaign initially and were in a real spot of bother at one stage. They needed to win their last four games to make it to the play-offs and the Bangalore outfit didn't just achieve that but also recorded their first straight win to get a shot at the final for a third time.

With the momentum with them, RCB would be determined to make the opportunity count by winning the coveted T20 tournament, having missed the chance twice in the past.
