16:51   Ashwin spins India to series whitewash

- INDIA WIN BY 321 RUNS

- INDIA WIN SERIES 3-0

NZ 153-all out (44.5 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed seven wickets as India crushed New Zealand by 321 runs to complete a 3-0 series whitewash in Indore.

Deservedly, Ashwin claimed the final wicket to fall as Boult was caught and bowled by the off-spinner for four as NZ were bowled out for 153 in their second innings.

Ashwin finished with magnificent figures of 7 for 59 in the second innings to complete a match haul of 13 wickets for 140 runs.

World No. 1 India showed their superiority and the visiting New Zealand team were no match for the hosts, who made most of playing at home.

Jadeja gave him good support as he took two for 45, while Yadav picked up one wicket.

All the three matches were won comprehensively by the Indians, who showed why are the top ranked Test nation.
16:46

NZ 138-9 (35 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Jadeja is taken off as pace bowler Yadav is brought back into the attack. Boult gets an inside edge which evades a diving Saha down the leg side and goes for a boundary.

Boult manages to see off the Yadav over successfully, giving Ashwin another chance to add to his tally of wickets, 12 in the match so far.

Watling sweeps one from well outside the off-stump to fine leg for a single as Boult comes on strike to face the last two deliveries of the over.

Watling doesn't want to give his wicket away cheaply like his other team mates as he carefully plays out the over from Yadav, who is getting some reverse swing going.

Ashwin gets a break as Jadeja is called back into the attack and he nearly finishes off the match but Saha is unable to hold on to the outside edge. The Indian close-in fielders have put down quite a few catches and that would be the only area to work on for the hosts.

Yadav getting a lot of reverse swing but hasn't been able to find the right line as Watling keeps it out.

Meanwhile, Jadeja tries an interesting variation as he bowls a very slow delivery. It was so slow that Boult had enough to have a cup of tea before letting it go through and smiles all around.

Watling not throwing it away, he is looking to delay the inevitable as long as possible with just a few overs left for close of play.

With three overs left in the day, India bring back their wrecker-in-chief Ashwin to finish off things.

Watling sweeps a short ball behind square on the leg side for a four and then sweeps it square off the next ball for one.

Watling defends Jadeja with caution before sweeping the last ball through fine leg for a four.

The last wicket has played 56 deliveries so far with just one over left in the quota of 90 overs for the day.

Ashwin to bowl the last of the quota of 90 overs but the Indians can claim an extra half an hour if a wicket doesn't fall now.

16:14   Ashwin claims 5th wicket as India close in on victory

NZ 138-9 (35 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

New Zealand have three wickets in hand, while India have 12 overs left to complete a 3-0 series whitewash.

Ashwin completes his second five-wicket haul of the match as Patel swipes across the line but fails to make connection and is bowled for a duck.

This was similar to the Taylor dismissal as Patel tried to sweep from outside the off-stump on the leg side but missed it completely.

Just two wickets for India to complete another comprehensive victory.

Matt Henry gets an inside edge and is caught at short leg but the umpire turns down the appeal.

But Ashwin doesn't have to wait for long as Henry holes out to mid-off to be dismissed for a duck.

Superb bowling by the off-spinner as he claims six wickets in both the innings with India just one wicket away from another big win.

16:04   Ashwin claims 4th wicket as India close in on victory

NZ 136-7 (33 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Ashwin is back, replacing Shami, who bowled a good probing spell and was unlucky to be rewarded with a wicket.

Santner goes after Ashwin, lofting him for a six over long-on. Ashwin won't mind it as two of his three wickets have come with the batsmen looking to attack him.

Ashwin takes just 11 deliveries to strike in his new spell. Santner plays down the wrong line, getting an inside edge to be bowled for 14.

Ashwin, who took six wickets in the first innings, now has four to complete a 10-wicket match haul.
15:55

NZ 127-6 (30 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Santner survives a close shout for LBW as Shami strikes him in line in front of the stumps, he is lucky to get away with that. Did he get the benefit of an inside edge on that occasion?

Watling plays a nice drive through the covers as Jadeja overpitches for a boundary.

Shami bowling a good spell, constantly creating a lot of problems for the batsmen. Santner gets an edge which flies past the slip fielder for a four before he survives a close shout for leg before wicket.

NZ are 127 for six in 30 overs, needing another 348 runs for victory with four wickets in hand and 15 overs still left in the day.

15:36   Guptill dismissed for 29, NZ lose 6th wicket

NZ 112-6 (26 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Jadeja makes it worse for New Zealand with the wicket of Jimmy Neesham, who is caught at short midwicket for a duck as NZ slip to 103 for five in the 24th over.

India nearly have another wicket as Shami, who is called back into the attack, gets an edge off Guptill. But the edge flies past the wicketkeeper with the fielder at slip stationed quite wide.

A few deliveries later he gently chips it back over the bowler's head past mid-off for another boundary.

Around 20 overs left in the day's play, will New Zealand be able to survive Day 4?

It looks highly unlikely as Jadeja strike again with the wicket of Guptill, who is trapped leg before wicket after a patient innings of 29 from 60 balls.

The NZ opener comes forward to defend but is beaten by the quicker delivery and struck right in front of the stumps as NZ lose their sixth wicket.
15:21   Ashwin claims 3rd wicket, Ronchi out for 15

NZ 102-4 (23 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Ronchi also looking to adopt a positive approach as he races to 11 from 12 balls looking to keep the runs coming against Ashwin.

Guptill plays a nice drive through the covers off Jadeja for a four before Ronchi cuts a short ball past point for the same result as NZ cross the 100-run mark, in the 22nd over.

Ashwin continues his wicket ways as he bowls Ronchi with a full delivery which keeps a tad low to be dismissed for 15 from 18 balls to reduce NZ to 102 for four in 23 overs.

15:08   Ashwin strikes again, Taylor bowled for 32

NZ 81-3 (19 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Taylor's positive approach helping him get over his run of poor scores in the series so far. He plays a beautiful drive through the covers for a four before Ashwin gets revenge.

Taylor, who scored a quickfire 32 from 25 balls, looks to sweep it across the line but misses it completely and is bowled.

You can't attack every ball when batting against someone like Ashwin, who is at the peak of his bowling.

Luke Ronchi starts off with a confident shot, pulling Ashwin to deep square leg for one.
15:01

NZ 76-2 (18 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Jadeja could have had a wicket in the very next over as Guptill gets an edge trying to defend but it flies between the wicketkeeper and Rahane at first slip.

Rahane was late to reacts as he puts down another easy catch like in the first innings when he grassed one but then took a few catches after that.

Ross Taylor gets off the mark with a streaky four as he gets an edge which goes to the right of Rahane in the slips. He decides aggression is the best way to counter Ashwin, smashing the next two deliveries over midwicket for a four and a six followed by a single to race to 15 from six deliveries.

Taylor on the attack as he paddle sweeps Jadeja fine on the leg side for another four.

No stopping Taylor, who is going after Ashwin, coming down and lofting him over midwicket for another four to race to 24 from 13 balls.

He goes for another shot down the ground as it goes on the bounce to the fielder at long-on.

Taylor goes after Jadeja but is beaten as the ball turns big, going past the edge of the bat with Rahane unable to stop it cleanly.

Guptill is defending solidly for 13 from 43 balls, while at the other end Taylor has smashed 28 from 22 balls to take NZ to 76 for two in 18 overs, still needing another 399 runs for victory.

14:40   Ashwin dismisses Williamson again, NZ lose 2nd wkt

NZ 42-2 (11 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Spin to start off the post-tea session as left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack for the first time.

Guptill on strike as he opts to play the first over of the session with caution, coming forward to defend with the full face of the bat.

Ashwin from the other end as Williamson shows his aggressive intent, coming down the track and hitting him with the spin over midwicket for a four.

But Ashwin gets revenge soon after as he traps Williamson leg before wicket for 27.

The NZ captain went back and across, looking to whip it on the leg side but missed and was trapped right in front of the stumps.

Ashwin has dismissed the Kiwi captain for the fourth time in four innings in the series to leave NZ in trouble at 42 for two.

14:17   NZ 38-1 at tea on Day 4 after being set 475 for victory

TEA - DAY 4

NZ 38-1 (9 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Yadav hits Guptill on the arm with a good short ball as the physio comes out to attend him. However, he looks fine to continue as he turns a short ball on the leg side for a four and then takes one.

Another short ball which Williamson pulls through square leg for a couple.

Spin introduced as Ravichandran Ashwin comes in to bowl the final over of the post-lunch session.

Williamson hits back to back fours off Ashwin through the leg side and misses the third boundary as it hits the bottom of the bat.

At tea on Day 4, New Zealand reach 38 for one in nine overs with Williamson on 23 and Guptill on eight.

They still need another 437 runs for victory with nine wickets in hand and five full session left in the match.

13:50   NZ lose early wicket after being set 475 for victory

NZ 10-1 (4 ovs); Target: 475 | Scorecard

Tom Latham gets off the mark with a bang, flicking a full delivery from Mohammed Shami over square leg for a six.

However, he is dismissed in the very next over as Umesh Yadav traps him leg before wicket for six.

A full delivery on the stumps as the left-hander played all over it and was caught plumb in front of the stumps as Kiwi suffer an early blow.

Captain Kane Williamson will be the key player for New Zealand, their hopes of lasting long on this track will depend on how he fares.

Williamson gets off the mark with a single on the leg side before Guptill survives a close run out chance as he went for a risky single on the off-side.

13:26   Pujara hits century as India set NZ 475 for victory

India 216-3d (49 ovs) & 557-5d vs NZ 299 | Scorecard

Pujara finishes unbeaten on 101 from 148 balls, while Rahane made 23 from 20 balls as the duo put on an unbroken stand of 58 runs from 54 balls to speed up India's declaration.

New Zealand face an uphill task of having to survive four and half sessions on a pitch getting difficult for batsmen.

They have around 45 overs to survive on Day 4 plus 90 more to come on the final day and given how they have batted through the series, it would take a miracle for the visitors to even escape with a draw.

13:19   Pujara hits century as India declare on 216-3

India 216-3d (49 ovs) & 557-5d vs NZ 299 | Scorecard

Pujara steers the last ball of the over behind square on the off-side for a couple to move to 92 as India's score crosses 200, in the 47th over.

Rahane and Pujara collect four singles from Henry's next over as the lead swells to 466.

Pujara completes his first century of the series after three fifties with a four off Neesham.

A well deserved century for the right-hander as he pulls a short ball from the pacer through square leg for a four.

And soon India declare their second innings on 216-3 in 49 overs, setting New Zealand a huge target of 474 runs to win the match.

Gambhir turns Neesham on the leg side for two runs to complete his half-century from 54 balls, with the lead extending to 367 runs.

After completing his half-century, Gambhir looks for some quick runs as he comes down the track and tries the inside out lofted shot but holes out to the cover fielder to become Patel's first victim of the innings.

10:05   Vijay run out for 19, India lose 1st wicket

India 35-1 (14 ovs) & 557-5d vs NZ 299 | Scorecard

Henry bowls a beauty to Pujara, beating him outside the off-stump with some away movement in the same fashion he did against Vijay earlier.

Pujara pulls a short ball powerfully but there are fielders in the deep on the leg side and he can get only a single.

Vijay survives a huge shout for LBW against Santner, possibly he got an inside edge on that else he was dead in front.

But he is dismissed off the very next delivery. He sets for a quick single on the off-side but is sent back midway into the run as Guptill swoops in quickly from the covers and sends back a quick return to catch the batsman a few inches short.

A waste of a wicket for the Indians as Vijay walks back run out after scoring 19 from 42 balls.

Gautam Gambhir, who retired with injury on Day 3, walks back at No.3 and he tucks the last ball of the over on the leg side for a single.

09:56   Dominant India look to build lead on Day 4

India 30-0 (11 ovs) & 557-5d vs NZ 299 | Scorecard

India's two batsmen looking to rotate the strike with singles as they pick four runs from Santner's over, the second of the day before Henry sends down a maiden.

Santner also bowls another maiden before Vijay looks to break the shackles as he pulls a short ball from Henry over midwicket where the fielder in the deep makes a good effort, taking the catch just inside the ropes but fails to hold on as he loses his balance near the ropes. The fielder was Neesham, who manages to keep the ball inside the ropes but puts down the catch.

Change of tactics from Vijay, who looks keen to get going and not let the Kiwi bowlers stifle the scoring rate.

But with the field spread around, the Indians are only getting singles at the moment. The intent is certainly evident as Pujara looks to play the ramp shot against the short ball but fails to connect.

India have scored 12 runs from the first five overs on Day 4 to take their score to 30 for no loss in 11 overs.

08:49   India eye series whitewash after Ashwin's haul
Welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the third and final Test between India and New Zealand in Indore on Tuesday.

India are looking at a series whitewash after securing a huge first innings lead of 258 runs.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed six wickets to help India secure the big lead after New Zealand were bowled out for 299 in their first innings in reply to India's 557 for five declared.

New Zealand made a flying start with Martin Guptill (72) and Tom Latham (53) featuring in the first century opening stand of the series before Ashwin triggered a spectacular batting collapse in the second session, however, and the touring side needed a defiant 71 from Jimmy Neesham to reach 299 all out.

India, who hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, decided against enforcing the follow-on and were 18 for no loss -- an overall lead of 276 -- at stumps on the third day, in Indore.

The only setback for the hosts was opener Gautam Gambhir retiring hurt after injuring his shoulder while diving to complete a run.

Murali Vijay (11) and Cheteshwar Pujara (one) will be hoping to bat New Zealand out of the match.
