Gujarat 191-7 (20 ovs) vs RCB 213-2 | Scorecard

RCB get back to winning ways as they outclass Gujarat Lions by 21 runs in a high-scoring encounter in Rajkot.

Aftr being put into bat, RCB posted a mammoth 213 for two in their 20 overs with Gayle smashing 77 from 38 balls, while Kohli made 64 from 50 balls as the duo put on a quickfire opening stand of 122 runs from 12.4 overs.

Kedar Jadhav staged a late assault as he hammered 38 from 16 balls, while Travis Head hit a quickfire 30 from as many deliveries.

In reply, Gujarat made a strong as Brendon McCullum slammed 72 from 44 balls, while Suresh Raina played a cameo of 23 from eight balls but they struggled against the RCB spinners.

Chahal took three for 31 in four overs, while Negi bowled a good spell of one for 21 in his four overs.

The win helped RCB get off the bottom of the points table as they climbed to sixth with two wins from six games, while Gujarat Lions slipped to the bottom with just one win from five matches.

Kohli puts down another catch, this time at long-on, his second dropped catch off successive deliveries as he puts down Kishan who tried to have Aravind on the leg side. Infact, Kohli landed on his right shoulder as he tumbled but the cushion on the ad skirting on the boundary ropes softened the blow as he fell over.

Kishan cuts a short ball past point to get another boundary as Gujarat continue to fight.

A slight error in length costs Aravind as Kishan smokes the full toss over midwicket for another huge six, his third of the innings.

He foxes Kishan with a slower bouncer as he ducks under but pulls the next ball over fine leg for a six.

Kishan has smashed his way to 39 from 15 balls, with four sixes and two fours, but the targets still looks impossible for Gujarat. They need 26 runs from the last over for victory.

Milne starts the last over with a wide full toss as Tye throws his bat but misses out. He drives the next ball to long-on as the two batsmen cross over for two runs which denies Kishan the strike again.

Tye takes a single as Gujarat's hopes of victory are all but finish with 25 needed from three balls.

Kishan goes after the next delivery but slices it on the off-side and is caught in the covers after a quickfire innings of 39 from 16 balls.

Kishan swings Head over the leg side for his second six before Gujarat lose a wicket courtesy of a run out.

Jadeja flicks it wide of long-on as Kishan comes back for the second but he is not interested and turns back.

Infact, Kishan has reached the crease ahead of Jadeja as both batsmen rushed back to the non-striker's end and ultimately it is the latter, who is given run out for 22.

Andrew Tye swings Head over the leg side as Kohli rushes to his right but puts down a straightforward chance.

With two left-handers out in the middle -- Jadeja and Ishan Kishan -- Kohli introduces part-time off-spinner Travis Head.

He makes a tidy start, conceding just seven runs in his first over as the scoring rate goes up to the 17 runs per over mark with 68 needed from four overs for victory.

Pacer Aravind comes back as he keeps the pressure up conceding just four runs from the first five balls before Kishan pulls the last ball over midwicket for a six.

The match keeps getting away from Gujarat's hands with 58 needed from 18 balls for victory.

23:10   Chahal dismisses McCullum, RCB in control

RCB bring back Chahal, who has one over left, to claim a wicket especially of the dangerman McCullum.

The Kiwi falls into the trap as he looks to slog sweep but ends up holing out to Milne at deep midwicket to fall after a splendid innings of 72 from 44 balls, laced with two fours and seven sixes.

Gujarat are reduced to 137 for five in the 15th over, with 77 needed from 32 balls for victory.

Just five runs from his final over as Chahal finishes with splendid figures of three for 31 in four overs.

23:05   McCullum's attack keeps Gujarat's hopes alive

Negi sends down a superb final over, giving away just a single as he finishes with splendid figures of one for 21 in four overs in a high-scoring encounter.

Ravindra Jadeja gets his four boundary as he steers Milne past the point fielder for a four before McCullum lofts the last ball straight down the ground for a six.

In the next over, Jadeja pulls a short ball from Watson for a four before McCullum swings a length ball over the leg side for a six.

Gujarat still continue to battle as they reach 134 for four in 14 overs, with 80 needed from six overs for victory.

McCullum will hold the key, he has looked absolutely brilliant on 71 from 42 balls, while Jadeja has made 12 from 11 balls.
22:50   Finch and Karthik perish, Gujarat 4 down

Negi comes back for a new spell as McCullum pulls a short ball over midwicket for a flat six to bring up his fifty in some style, from 30 balls.

But Negi checks Gujarat's progress with the wicket of Finch, who is beaten in the flight and is stumped for 19.

At the halfway stage, Gujarat are 103 for three in 10 overs, with McCullum going strong on 53 from 31 balls.

Aravind strikes in the next over with the wicket of Dinesh Karthik, who holes out a simple catch to Kohli at long-on to fall for one.

The last two overs have derailed Gujarat's run chase with two wickets going down while just 11 runs have come from it.

Negi comes back as McCullum swings the first ball behind square on the leg side for a six. The next ball is short as the Gujarat opener pulls it over midwicket for a four as the hosts continue their aggressive approach despite losing their captain.

Aaron Finch also wasting no time to get his eye in. He lofts Chahal over midwicket for a six to get off the mark in some style from the second ball he faces.

Two singles from the next two balls before Chahal beats Finch with one turns enough to go past the edge as the right-hander has a big swing.

Pacer Adam Milne comes into the attack. He starts with two wides before Finch swings the fourth ball on the leg side for a four to get 10 runs from the over.

Shane Watson comes into the attack. Three singles from the first three balls before McCullum lofts it straight down the ground for a six followed by two more singles to get 11 from the over.

Milne comes under attack from McCullum in the next over. He hits a full toss over mid-off for a four before chopping a short ball over the off-side for a six to keep Gujarat's hopes alive.

Gujarat are 90 for two in nine overs, needing another 123 runs from 11 overs for victory. They need another 119 runs from 11 overs for victory at an asking rate of 10.81, slightly more than their current run rate.

Their hopes largely rest on McCullum, who has so far smashed his way to 46 from 28 balls, while Finch has made 19 from 14 balls.

Left-arm pacer Sreenath Aravind comes into the attack as Negi is taken off after just one over.

Suresh Raina has come out attacking as he lofts Aravind over the leg side for a six. He steps down the track to the next ball and lofts it straight down the ground for another six before he heaves the next ball over midwicket for a four as Aravind goes for 19 in his first over.

McCullum also joins the act as he slog sweeps Chahal over midwicket for a six. Raina continues his attacking approach as he sweeps the leg-spinner through square leg for a four. But Chahal gets revenge off the last ball of the over as Raina is caught at short fine leg after a quickfire cameo of 23 from just eight balls, having hit two fours and two sixes.

We will resume the second half of the match as Gujarat's openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum walk out to the middle in the pursuit of a massive 214 for victory.

Left-arm spinner Pawan Negi opens the bowling for RCB as he makes the perfect start, conceding just a single in his first over.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack from the other end. He strikes with the wicket of Smith, who pulls it straight into the hands of Mandeep Singh at deep square leg to fall for one.

A good start by Chahal as Gujarat find themselves in early trouble at four for one in two overs.

Jadhav cuts loose as he chips down the track and lofts Tye over long-on for a six before he slaps the next through the covers for a four.

He again comes down, off the fifth ball, as the bowler shortens his length but Jadhav adjusts well as he pulls it over square leg for a four. A couple off the last ball gives RCB 18 runs from Tye's final over.

Jadeja to bowl the final over. Head drives the first ball straight for two runs before he picks one to long-on.

Jadhav continues his assault as he makes room and lofts Jadeja over point for a four to take RCB past the 200-run mark.

He lofts the fourth ball of the over straight down the ground for a six over long-on. The fifth ball is short and slightly wide as Jadhav smashes it over the covers for a boundary.

However, Jadhav misses the last ball which is a full toss outside the off-stump as he makes too much and fails to make connection.

RCB finish on a mammoth 213 for two in their 20 overs.

Jadhav finishes unbeaten on a whirlwind innings of 38 from 16 balls, while Head made 30 from the same number of deliveries, with the duo putting on an unbroken stand of 54 from 25 balls for the third wicket.

A disappointing showing with the ball by Jadeja, who went for 57 runs in his four overs, including 17 from the final over of the innings.
21:30   Gayle, Kohli hit half-centuries, RCB set for huge total


RCB 178-2 (18 ovs) vs Gujarat | Scorecard

Dhawal brings Gujarat camp some relief with the key wicket of Kohli. The slower ball does the trick as Kohli goes for the big hit over midwicket but fails to get enough power and is caught in the deep.

Kohli walks back after a good innings of 64 from 50 balls with RCB reduced to 159 for two, in the 16th over.

Kedar Jadhav gets off the mark immediately with a single off the first ball he faces.

Tye comes back as Jadhav hits a short ball over the off-side for a four but the pacer makes a good comeback conceding just two more singles off the next five deliveries.

Head takes on Thampi as he hits the first two balls of the over for boundaries and picks two runs off the last two balls.

A good outing with the ball for Thampi, who finishes with one for 31 in four overs, including the prized scalp of Gayle.

21:10   Kohli hits half-century, RCB set for a huge score


RCB 153-1 (15 ovs) vs Gujarat | Scorecard

Jadeja comes back as Kohli nudges him fine on the leg side for two runs before he plays a superb drive through the covers for a four. Head gets two runs from the last ball as 10 come from the left-arm's third over, he has so far given away 40 runs in three overs.

Kohli flicks Kaushik through midwicket for a couple to bring up fifty from 43 balls and later in the over he whips him uppishly through the same region for as six.

Head gets his first boundary as he slog sweeps Kaushik wide of long-on for a six to get 18 from the over.

RCB are well on course for a 200-plus total as they reach 153 for one in 15 overs.
21:07   Gayle out for 38-ball 77, RCB lose 1st wicket

Part-time medium pacer Dwayne Smith comes into the attack. Two singles from the first two balls before Gayle hits a straight six back over his West Indies team mate's head.

Smith bowls a wide as the bouncer goes too high over Gayle, who smashes the next ball over long-on for the second six of the over.

Two more singles as Smith goes for 17 in his first over with RCB crossing the 100-run mark, in the 11th over.

Dhawal comes back into the attack. He manages to produce that rare delivery which beats Gayle, outside the off-stump as the bowler and wicketkeeper appeal for a catch behind but the umpire is not interested.

He gets an edge off the next ball which goes fine on the off-side for a four. Two balls later, he slaps a wide full delivery square on the off-side for another boundary before he is foxed by a slower ball.

The impressive young pacer Thampi finally makes the breakthrough with the big wicket of Gayle. The quick yorker beats Gayle who plays all over it but misses and is trapped leg before wicket after a fiery innings of 77 from 38 balls, having hit five four and seven sixes.

Travis Head gets off the mark with two runs before he picks one from the last ball.

Tye is set to bowl another good over before Kohli spoils it by pulling the last ball for a four past short fine leg to make it eight runs from the over.

Gayle takes on Kaushik as he despatches the left-arm spinner over long-on for a six to race to his half-century, from just 23 balls, having hit three fours and five sixes.

RCB look set for a huge score as they reach 92 for no loss in 10 overs with Gayle on 52 from 25 balls and Kohli on 38 from 34 balls.

After a watchful start, Gayle has cut loose. He takes on India's best spinner of the season Jadeja in his second over.

He hits the second ball straight but hits Kohli on the pads at the other end but the next is smashed back again, this time in the gap, for a four.

Jadeja bowls it a bit wide as Gayle hammers it over the covers for a four and then heaves the next ball over midwicket for a six.

However, Jadeja gets revenge with the wicket of Gayle with the very next delivery. He mishits a full toss down the ground as Brendon McCullum who takes a stunning one-handed diving catch on the edge of the ropes, running to his right at long-off.

Gayle, on 38 from 18 balls, gets a lifeline as the edge of his floppy hat touches the boundary rope which also gifts RCB a six. The television confirms that McCullum was unlucky not to get the decision in his favour by the slightest of margins as the brim of his hat kissed the boundary ropes.

Gayle survives as RCB  race to 75 for no loss in eight overs with Gayle on 44 from just 19 balls and Kohli on 31 from 29 balls at the other end.

Jadeja has suffered in the over, being hit for two sixes and two fours by Gayle as he goes for 21 runs in his second over.

RCB 54-0 (7 ovs) vs Gujarat | Scorecard

Universe boss Gayle becomes the first man to complete the landmark of 10,000 runs in T20 cricket as he takes a single off Thampi in the fourth over.

Kohli picks a single before Gayle gets his first boundary as he lofts his over mid-off for the first six of the match.

Andrew Tye comes into the attack, replacing Dhawal, who bowled two overs for 20 runs with the new ball. He makes a tidy start, conceding just three singles in his first over.

Gujarat introduce spin as left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja comes into the attack, replacing Thampi, who bowled an excellent spell of two overs for 13 runs.

Gayle crashes the second ball past mid-off for a four and then picks two from the next ball as Jadeja goes for nine in his first over.

Spinners from both ends as left-arm chinaman Shivil Kaushik comes in from the other end. Gayle gets a freebie, short and down the leg side but he can only get a single to fine leg. However, two balls later the tall West Indian lofts one down the ground for a six to take RCB past the 50-run mark.

The power-packed duo of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli walk out to open the batting for RCB.

Mumbai's experienced seamer Dhawal Kulkarni will bowl the first over.

Gayle gets off the mark with a quick single from the first ball before Kohli gets one with an unconvincing shot on the leg side which falls just short of the fielder at midwicket.

Gayle picks another single before Kohli gets an edge for the first boundary of the match and then keeps strike with one from the last ball.

The young Basil Thampi to bowl the second over. Kohli defends the first two balls before he is beaten and hit on the pads as the pacer appeals. He tries a bouncer which Kohli looks to pull but gets a top edge which goes for a four and he gets one from the last ball.

Kohli keen to break the shackles while also impose himself on the bowlers right from the start. He walks across his crease and flicks Dhawal through the leg side twice in a row for successive fours. He drives the next ball straight down the ground to make it a hat-trick of boundaries to take RCB to 25 for no loss in three overs.

Welcome to the coverage of the 20th match of the Indian Premier League between Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Rajkot, on Tuesday.

Gujarat captain Suresh Raina has won the toss and elected to bowl.

RCB have suffered some injury woes as AB de Villiers and Samuel Badree miss out because of injuries as Chris Gayle and Travis Head back into the playing eleven.
