However, he is beaten as he chases a wide one and is lucky not to have edged it.

Ashwin dealing in boundaries as Herath continues to suffer on the second day too. Ashwin takes a long stride out and drives the veteran spinner for two boundaries through the covers to race to 20 with the help of four fours and also take India past the 450-run mark, in the 105th over.

Perera comes back and nearly strikes with his first ball but the LBW appeal is turned down. Ashwin offers no shot to the first ball which spins in sharply but the impact is well outside the off-stump and the ball is not looking on course to hit the stumps.

Two balls later, Ashwin hits another boundary, making most of some width to steer it through the point region to take his score to 31 with the help of six fours.

Lahiru testing Saha with a few bouncers but the right-hander doing well to duck under it, three times in a row.

Perera again gives Ashwin some width and he again drives it past point for a four to continue the flow of runs.

Lahiru bowls a good bouncer to Saha as the right-hander gets the glove trying to fend it but it flies over the slip fielder for a four.

Perera from round the wicket bowls it outside the leg stump as Ashwin paddles it fine for a couple to take his score into the 40s.
