Australia captain Steve Smith has won the toss and elected to bat against India in the third Test in Ranchi.

Australia have made two changes to their team as Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell are included in place of Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh respectively.

For India, a fit-again Murali Vijay comes back into the team in place of Abhinav Mukund.

It will be a special occasion for Vijay, who completes the landmark of 50 Test matches. He is only the fifth specialist opener after Sunil Gavaskar (125), Virender Sehwag (103), Gautam Gambhir (58) and Navjot Singh Sidhu (51) to represent India in 50 Tests or more.

"It is a great feeling, to be honest. I never thought I would play so many Test matches for India," Vijay told bcci.tv on Wednesday.

"It has been a great journey and I would like to thank the TNCA and Chemplast -- my club team for the immense support throughout my journey so far. It has been great and have enjoyed every bit of it. It was a great moment when I got into the team. I never thought once that I didnt belong here," he recollected his journey with a lot of fondness.
