India win 5th ODI by 7 wickets and reclaim top spot in ICC ODI rankings

India win the match by 7 wickets and take the series 4-1.

With this series win, India topple South Africa from their perch to take the No 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings.

Faulkner continues and Pandey hammers 2 successive boundaries to win by 7 wickets.

Zampa continues and India take 3 runs off him.

Faulkner gives one run and gives one run only.

First ball he faces and Jadhav pounces on it. He pulls it on the on side for a boundary.

India need 12 runs off the last 10 overs.

Zampa brought back into the attack and gets the two set batsmen out in the same over. Too little too late with India needing just 16 off 63 balls.

Faulkner brought back into the attack and there is just no respite for the Aussies as Rohit tares into the bowler and 11 runs are taken off him.

Finch continues and nine come off his over.

Coulter-Nile continues and he gets a royal drubbing at the hands of Rohit. 

First he hammers him for a four on the on side and then goes big and how!

He just slaps the ball over mid-on for a huge one to end the over.  

Finch continues and there is just to runs on offer.

Coulter-Nile continues. He gives away only run in the first five balls but his figures are spoilt off the last ball of the over as Rohit brings up his 100 with a six! 

He smashes the ball over mid-wicket for his 14th ODI hundred.

Finch, left-arm off spin is brought into the attack and India deal with him with utmost ease.

They are happy to rotate the strike and get 6 runs in the over.

Cummins continues and the singles coming at will for India. 

Kolhi completes 6000 ODI runs as India take 6 runs off him.

It's the quicks here that are doing a good job for Australia with Cummins and being measly with the runs. He bowls well again to give just one in the over.

But at the other end comes Head and he is tonked all over the park, firs through singles and twos and then a last ball six over long on and 10 big runs come off the over.

Just going through the motions are the visitors. There is no intent in their fielding as let they let India get easy runs.

Zampa comes back to the bowling.

He starts with a short ball that Rohit gets a boundary behind point.

Coulter-Nile continues and Rahane plays it to the on side for a boundary.

Next ball, the delivery hits Rahane in the middle. The bowler appeals, umpire Erasmus lifts the finger.  Rahane goes for DRS but the third umpire asks his on-field counterpart to stay with his decision and Rahane goes back for a well made 61.

Kohli comes to the crease and is yet to get off the mark. 

Four runs and a wicket come in the over.



Faulkner continues. 

Rahane tries to scoop the ball past the keeper, gets a edge and is dropped by Wade standing at the stumps.

Rohit gets a couple through the covers and Cummins puts in a good dive at the boundary to keep it down to a couple.

Five runs off the over.

Coultet-Nile brought back into the attack and gives away just four in the over.

Faulkner comes back into the attack.

He starts with 2 dots to Rahane and then the batsman goes after the bowler. Lucky for Rahane the ball fell in front of the fielder at mid-wicket.

Rahane gets to his fourth consecutive fifty with a boundary straight down the ground.

Another expensive over by Australia.

Stoinis continues.

Rahane starts the over with a single.

Rohit gets to his 50 with a couple on the on side. That is something, considering he didn't get off the mark until the 13th delivery.

Rohit goes after the bowler and plays a short-arm jab for a boundary on the on side.

Rohit runs two to end the over.

Another expensive over from Stoinis as he gives nine runs in the over.

Travis Head continues and he is giving no freebies away here.

Rahane gets a single to deep mid-wicket.

Head taken to the cleaners after 4 good deliveries.

Rohit hits the first six of the innings over Warner in the deep and follows that up with a four through covers. 11 off the over.

India are cruising at this stage.

And how easily is this being done by India. They are getting the singles at will and there is minimal challenge by the Australian bowlers here.

Rahane ends the over with a single to deep cover and only three runs come off it.

Head continues.

He gets turn and bounce and Rahane takes a single to long on.

Rohit does the same and there is easy runs here for India.

3 runs come off the over.

Zampa continues, full ball and Rahane comes down the track and slaps the ball through covers for a boundary.

Short ball to end the over and Rahane pulls him to long on for a single and nine runs come off the over.

Head continues and Rahane uses his feet well to get two twos in the over. 

And five come off the over.

Zampa continues, he bowls a googly and Rahane gets an inside edge and gets a single to fine leg.

Rohit now foxed, he gets the outside edge and ball runs down to third man for four.

Rohit then takes couple to cover and ends the over with a four behind square leg.

Head comes into the attack and India picks 6 easy singles in the over.

Smith brings in Zampa into the attack and he gives away four runs, one came off a misfield at point by Head. 

Not a bad start.

India have started cautiously here even as Australia have failed to make a breakthrough inside the ten overs.

Faulkner comes to bowl and is welcomed with a lovely boundary by Rahane.

It's the perfect cover drive.

Rahane then gets a single to long-off. 

Rohit then plays a single on the off side and 6 come off the over.

Stoinis continues.

Rahane drives it to covers. There is a mix-up, lucky there was no run out.

Rahane plays a pull, gets one for it.

Rohit plays a tickle down to long leg for a boundary. Five runs off the over.

Coulter-Nile continues, Rohit tries to pull the short ball, takes his eye off and gets hit on the arm.

He tries to go again but finds the fielder. Next ball, ditto.

He then gets an inside edge. 

It's a full ball and Rohit times it to perfection. A punch through covers and that is boundary.

Last ball of the over, Rohit finshes, no contact and the ball dies on the keeper.

Four runs off the over.  

Stoinis brought into the attack very early and he bowls full and Rohit sends him to long on for a single.

Rahane takes a single down to third man. 

Rohit then takes a single to long-on and a dot ball to end the over.

Coulter-Nile continues, it's a good length ball and Rahane plays an impeccable cover drive for a boundary.

Coulter-Nile comes back nicely to bowl five dot balls in a row. Just four off the over.

Cummins continues. 

Rahane plays the ball wide off the man at third man and scampers down the track for a single.

A frustrated Rohit tries to go after the bowler, gets inside edge, the ball hits his pads, Cummins fails to get to ball. Good efforr.

Rohit finally gets off the mark. A juicy half-volley and he plays it down the ground through mid-off for a boundary.

He follows it up with an aerial boundary, this time over long-off.

Coulter-Nile continues and Rahane gets a single down to mid-on. 

Rohit still to get off the mark after facing 12 deliveries.

Cummins continues and Rahane starts the over with a perfectly-timed boundary through mid-on. 

He then takes a single down to mid-wicket.

Cummins bowls three dot balls to Rohit who is still on nought. 

Coulter-Nile shares the new ball with Cummins.

And he starts off brilliantly with just one run in the over.

Cummins starts the proceedings for Australa and gets the ball to Rahane's pads. Big shout for LB. Turned down by the umpire.

Cummins then drifts on to the pads and Rahane helps it on its way to the boundary through mid-wicket  for the first four of the innings.

Rahane then gets a single to third man.

Rohit yet to get off the mark and that is 5 for no wicket after the opening over.

Australia are restricted to 242 for 9 in 50.

Another fine spell of death bowling sees three wickets fall in the last five overs.

Coulter-Nile to face the last ball of the innings and is clean bowled by Bhuvi for a duck.

Bhuvi continues, slightly full, Faulkner goes after it and is dropped by Pandya at long-on. 

Cummins is the new batsman at the crease and gets off the mark with a single to deep mid-wicket.

The batsmen then take a run each.

Faulkner goes big, he runs a couple but is run-out for 12. Nice throw from the deep by Pandya. Dhoni collects it and doesn't allow the 2nd run as Faulkner is run out for 12. 

Bumrah continues and what horror cricket from both sides.

Faulkner was a goner. A big run-out chance gone a-begging as Bumrah fails to collect the ball. Fortunately for Wade he manages to run back.

Bumrah finishes his over with a wicket.

Wade slices the ball straight to Rahane at backward point. 

Wade gone for 20 off 18! 

What an over -- just five runs and a wicket off it.

Bhuvi continues. Short ball and Wade hits the ball straight over the bowler's head for a six. What a way to start the over! 

Two singles to follow up that big shot.

Wade goes big again, he plays towards mid-wicket and it falls in no man's land, just short of Rahane in the deep. 2 runs for Wade.

Last ball and Faulkner digs out the yorker and scampers for a single.

Bumrah continues and Faulkner starts with a single. 

Wade tries to paddle sweep him but cannot execute it. That is a beautiful yorker.

Faulkner gets a single and then Wade gets a couple down to mid-wicket. 

Another slower ball to end the over as the Aussies pick a single and 6 runs come off the over.

Bhuvneshwar has five overs remaining and he comes back into the attack.

Faulkner and Wade begin with 2 runs off the first two balls of the over.

The Aussies need to go at over 8 runs an over if they need to get to the 250-run mark.

But Bhuvneshwar does really well to give just 3 runs in the over.

16:33   Two new batsmen at the crease


Australia 211-6 (45 ovs) vs India | Scoreboard

Faulkner replaces Stoinis at the crease.

He begins with a defensive jab and second ball he fishes, gets a thick outside edge. The ball goes to Dhoni who is not sure of a catch. 

On-field umpire's soft signal is out but third umpire's video referral shows the ball may have bounced in front and the third umpire says not out.

The last ball of the over is a bye and they get just that one run in the over.

A wicket-maiden that then for Bumrah. 

Bumrah continues and first ball he has Stoinis wrapped on the pads, right in front of stumps. Umpire raises the finger but Stonis asks for review.

DRS concurs with umpire Erasmus and Stoinis walks back for a well-made 46. 

Australia in all sorts of trouble.

Kuldeep continues and Wade comes to the crease. 

He gets off the mark with a single and the Aussies end the over with 5 runs.

Axar continues and after three runs in the over he bowls a yorker that Head misses totally.

Head is bowled out for 42 off 59. 

Kuldeep bowls a wrong un, foxes Stoinis who goes for a heave, only to get the inside edge and ball fall short of Axar at short third man.

Head takes off for a couple of singles and then hits him foe a four over mid-wicket.

Kuldeep continues.

Seven runs off the over.
Axar brought back into the attack and five useful runs come off it.

Kuldeep continues and Head sweeps the ball down behind mid-wicket for a single. 

Stoinis takes on Kuldeep and slogs the ball to deep mid-wicket for a four/ That is a welcome boundary.

Stoinis finishes the over with a boundary. 

He picks the wrong 'un and dispatches it through covers! 

Aus picking the pace now.

Bumrah continues. He is bowling accurately and at a good pace here. 

Only one run comes off the over as Head takes a single down to third man.

Kuldeep continues and the batsmen are content with taking the singles and twos.

Bumrah brought back into the attack.

Again Australia are only allowed 3 runs in the over.

Axar continues and he gives four runs in the over.

Jadhav continues.

Stoinis charges and he gets the first six of the innings -- that is a big one over the head of long off fielder.

Head gets boundary as he sweeps the ball behind square.

Axar continues and a boundary to end the over. 

Again the batsmen is a Stoinis, he gets an edge and the ball races past Dhoni and Rahane at slips for a four. and that is six off the over.

Jadhav and Axar bowling well in tandem here to keep the runs restricted to only singles.

Apart from the boundary off the bat of Jadhav in the 29th over, (the four came after 52 deliveries) Aus have been kept under pressure here.

Axar continues. 

Head and Stoinis should now play the spinners carefully.

The ball, gripped, turned, an outside edge and Stonis gets a fine edge and it beats the keeper Dhoni and Rahane at slip to race to the third man boundary.

Head comes down the track and hits him for a four. That is the only runs in the over.

Handscomb gets a top-edge and another wicket for Axar! 

It's a loopy delivery from the left-armer. Handscomb tries to sweep, only to get a top edge and a nice catch completed by Rahane, behind the keeper.

Pandya continues and he gets the much-wanted wicket of Aaron Finch. 

It was a good length ball, Finch wasn't caught at the crease, he got a bottom edge and was caught by Bumrah at mid-off.

Steve Smith comes to the crease and starts with an impeccable boundary through covers!

He goes for 32 off 36.

Warner begins the over with couple and then runs a single.

Kohli brings chinaman Kuldeep in to bowl and he starts off nicely and gives just 3 runs.

Australia have picked the pace and are trudging along nicely at 6 runs an over.
