India 16-1 (2 ovs), D/L Target: 48 in 6 ovs | Scorecard

In-form Rohit Sharma walks out to open the batting with Shikhar Dhawan, who is making a comeback to the team after missing the ODI series.

For Australia debutant pacer Jason Behrendorff starts off with the ball. He starts with a half volley on the pads which Rohit flicks through midwicket for a four to begin his innings in confident fashion.

He defend the next few balls before taking a single off the fifth ball and Dhawan is beaten off the last ball, fishing for one outside the off-stump.

Nathan Coulter-Nile to bowl the second over. The first ball is despatched over the fine leg fence for a six as Rohit looks desperate to get India off to a flier.

But Coulter-Nile gets revenge immediately as he bowls Rohit with a full delivery as the right-hander plays over it and is dismissed for 11.

Captain Virat Kohli has a close shave as he looks for a run before deciding against it after Dhawan has driven it to mid-on, however he safely makes his ground before the fielder hit the stumps.

Dhawan plays an uppish drive off the last ball which goes past the bowler and fielder at mid-on for a four.

The rain continues to pour in Ranchi as the full outfield is under covers. Australia's innings has ended which means India will start with the bat once the match resumes.

For now, we will need the rain to stop first before the covers are taken off and a decision is made on the resumption.

India will be desperate for the game to get underway so they can continue their superiority and post another victory over the Australians.

The visitors struggled with the bat, managing 118 for eight in 18.4 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets each.

Christian is run out for nine with Australia losing their eighth wicket.

Australia nearly lose another one but Adam Zampa's inside edge narrowly misses the stumps and goes fine on the leg side for a four.

The drizzle has got a bit heavy forcing the umpires to call the players off the field and bring on the covers.

A single from the last ball makes it 12 runs from the over as Australia aim to make a recovery.

Paine's luck finally runs out. Bumrah comes back for a new spell and strikes with the first delivery. The pacer bowls a full incoming delivery as Paine is unable to keep it out and is bowled for 17.

Three balls later he bowls Nathan Coulter-Nile with a yorker for one. Interestingly, Australia's six wickets out of their seven so far have been bowled.

Pandya to finish off his spell as he continues, to bowl his fourth and final over.

Christian takes a single before Pandya bowls Head off an inside edge for nine as Australia slip further, to 90 for five in the 14th over.

The left-hander was trying to flick it across the line on the leg side but only got the inside edge as Australia continue to slip in the middle overs.

New batsman Tim Paine takes one to get off the mark followed by another two singles off the last two balls.

Chahal comes back and nearly strikes with his first ball. Paine gets a leading edge trying to turn it on the leg side as Chahal dives to his left and takes the catch but fails to hold on as he lands on the outfield.

Paine gets another lifeline as he comes down the track trying to sweep but is beaten as Dhoni misses a tough stumping chance after being blinded by the batsman.

He then pulls the next ball straight into the hands of Bhuvneshwar who fails to hold on to a simple chance on the edge of the ropes.
19:54   Kuldeep leaves Australia in a mess

Aus 88-4 (13 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Chahal bowls a good over conceding just three runs as both Head and Mosies Henriques look to avoid any risks and build a partnership following the dismissal of Finch.

Pandya comes back, replacing Kuldeep, who bowled an excellent first spell of one for 10 in two overs.

Henriques spoils what looks like a good over as he pulls the fifth ball over midwicket for a four to get six from the over.

Kuldeep comes back from the other, taking over from Chahal. He gets another wicket as Henriques comes down the track but is beaten in the flight and is bowled for for eight.

Just two runs from the over and a wicket as Australia are reduced to 88 for four in 13 overs.

Spin from both ends as chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack, in place of Pandya, who has bowled two expensive overs.

Aus 57-2 (7 ovs) vs India | Scorecard

Change of ends for Bumrah as he comes in for Pandya, who bowled just one over to enable the change of ends for both pacers.

Bumrah bowls a good length to Maxwell who manages only a single to mid-on and Finch also takes one to thirdman.

Finch looks to break the shackles as he lofts Bumrah over mid-on but fails to get proper timing for just two runs and picks another couple to square leg.

Pandya comes back in place of Bhuvneshwar, who has bowled two good overs with the new ball, claiming one for 11.

Maxwell clips the first ball for a four through square leg before Finch smashes the fourth ball straight down the ground past mid-off for another boundary to take Australia to 49 for one in six overs.

India introduce spin as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack to bowl the seventh over.

Maxwell cuts the first ball past point for a couple and then tries the same shot, but get a thick outside edge through the vacant slip region for a four.

However, Chahal gets Maxwell with the very next delivery as he pulls a short ball straight to the fielder at midwicket to perish for 17.

Travis Head gets off the mark with a single and Finch also picks one as Australia reach 57 for two in seven overs.
19:16   Bhuvneshwar strikes early, Warner out for 8

Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the second over. Aaron Finch defends the first two balls before he smashes a wide delivery through the covers for a four to get off the mark in style followed by three singles off the last three balls.

Just one over for Bhuvneshwar with the new ball despite claiming a wicket in his first over.

Finch looks to loft it down the ground and fails to time it properly but somehow clears the man at mid-on for a couple. He plays another powerful shot through the off-side but Shikhar Dhawan does well in the covers to stop it.

Finch then opens the face of the bat and lofts a wide delivery from Pandya over the point region for a four.

The next ball is again wide but this time Finch drives it along the ground square on the off-side for another four.

Change of ends for Bhuvneshwar. He starts with a full delivery which comes in as Maxwell plays all over it, attempting the helicopter shot over midwicket but ends up missing it completely.

India captain Virat Kohli has won the toss and elected against Australia in the first T20 International in Ranchi.

Australia are being led by David Warner with Steve Smith ruled out with a shoulder injury.

18:18   India aim to continue run, Warner to lead Australia
Welcome to the coverage of the first T20 International of the three-match series between India and Australia in Ranchi on Saturday.

A confident India will look to extend their domination following their 4-1 victory in the five-match ODI series, while a hapless Australia would aim for a change of fortunes.

Australia suffered a mighty setback after captain Steve Smith was ruled out of the series with a shoulder injury. Cricket Australia confirmed that vice-captain David Warner will stand in as captain, while Marcus Stoinis will replace Smith in the squad for the remainder of the series.

A reliable pool of bowlers in both pace and spin department to complement their traditional batting might is what makes Virat Kohli's side look so formidable.

The rise of Hardik Pandya, the guile of the wrist-spin duo -- Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal -- have made life difficult for Australia in the one-day series.

But come T20Is, it could be worse for Australia as India boast of a 9-3 head-to-head record.

Nehra has played 26 T20Is and took 34 wickets and still has the world batsmen in awe, something that was seen during the Sunrisers Hyderabad's campaign in IPL.

Man-of-the-series in the ODI series, Pandya -- 222 runs at an average of 55.50 and six wickets - has been able to establish himself as a key player in the side. He is seen as a vital cog in the wheel for India's road to 2019 World Cup.

Pandya along with Kedar Jadhav will be the two key Indian all-rounders while opener Rohit Sharma, the top run-getter in the ODI series (296 runs), will look to continue his good run.

Shikhar Dhawan, who had opted out of the five-match ODI series, is back after attending to his ill wife, while there's also KL Rahul who has been chosen ahead of Ajinkya Rahane despite the latter's four successive fifties in the ODIs.
