India 232-4 (46 ovs) vs NZ 230-9 | Scorecard

Santner gives New Zealand some hope with the wicket of Pandya, who looks to sweep it fine but ends up giving a simple catch to Milne at short fine leg. He had premeditated the sweep and unfortunately for him he was too early into the shot and ended up hitting a full toss straight to the fielder.

Pandya walks back after scoring 30 from 31 balls but India in no danger at all.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni walks in at No. 6 ahead of local boy Jadhav, who has been pushed down to No. 7.

Dhoni gets off the mark with a single to long-off and Karthik steers the fourth ball through thirdman for two.

Boult bowls four dot balls in a row to Dhoni before he overpitches and the former captain flicks it through midwicket for a four.

Santner to bowl his final over. He starts with a beauty as Karthik comes forward to defend but is beaten by the turn which sees the ball go past the edge.

Two singles before Karthik takes two from the last ball to get four from the over as Santner finishes with one for 38 in 10 overs.

A good knock from Karthik at No. 4 which should help him seal his position for the next few games.

India are looking set for an easy win as they reach 204 for three in 40 overs, needing 27 runs from 10 overs for victory.

Medium pacer Colin de Grandhomme comes into the attack in place of Santner, who bowled just two overs for eight runs in his first spell.

Southee drops short again as Kohli easily pulls it through midwicket for a four and then takes one on the leg side.

Disappointing bowling from Southee as he drops short again as he pulls it over the square leg fence for a six.

He tries the short ball yet again as Dhawan goes for the pull but is beaten and the Kiwis after a lot of debate appeal for the catch by the wicketkeeper at the very last minute.

It turns out to be a waste of a review as there is nothing on the UltraEdge and the review is turned down as Southee's poor record with the DRS continues.

India have gone on the attack since Rohit's wicket, smashing 26 runs from 15 balls to race to 48 for one in seven overs.

18:01   Rohit out for 7 as India lose early wicket

India 28-1 (5 ovs) vs NZ 230-9 | Scorecard

Not a bad delivery from Southee but Dhawan manages to smash it through the off-side for a four and then picks a quick single to mid-off.

But the crowd are stunned into silence as Rohit clips a full delivery off his pads straight into the hands of the fielder at square leg to perish for seven.

A lucky break for New Zealand as nine times out of ten, Rohit will fancy his chances of getting that ball off his pads for a boundary but this he just struggled with his balance and was unable to keep the ball down or in the gap.

The in-form Virat Kohli gets off the mark with two runs as he plays a nice flick through the midwicket region. He pushes the last ball down the ground past mid-on for a four to make a confident start.

India 17-0 (4 ovs) vs NZ 230-9 | Scorecard

Trent Boult to bowl the second over. Shikhar Dhawan goes hard at the first delivery, which is short and wide, as he gets a thick outside edge which flies over the slips for a four to get India off the mark.

He then takes a single before Rohit clips the fifth ball past midwicket for three runs to get eight runs from the over. Infact, a better throw from the deep and Dhawan could have been in trouble as he casually jogged through the second run before pushing the tempo for the third.

After a good first over, Southee starts his second with a poor delivery. Rohit needs no second invitation as he pulls a short ball over square leg for a boundary. Southee immediately realises his mistakes and pitches the deliveries up for the rest of the over and the Mumbai batsman is content to leave.

Dhawan starts off the next over with a boundary too as he flicks a full delivery from Boult through square leg for a four. Dhawan picks a single before Rohit is beaten by one which swings across him.

India are off to a confident start as they reach 17 for no loss in four overs.

The two pacers will finish off here as Bhuvneshwar comes on from the other end.

He strikes again off the next ball as new batsman Adam Milne plays from the crease but is struck on the pads. The umpire immediately gives it out leg before wicket but the batsman decides to take the review.

But the decision stays as the impact is on line and the ball is going to hit the middle of middle stump as NZ lose their eighth wicket.

He plays another cracking shot, flicking a full delivery from the pacer through midwicket for a four and takes one from the last ball to take his score to 31 from 27 balls.

Change from both ends as Bhuvneshwar comes on from the other end. De Grandhomme survives a run out chance as Jadhav at point misses the direct hit with the batsman way out of his crease.

A single to Nicholls off Axar raises the 50-run stand for the fifth wicket before the left-hander cuts the fourth ball past point for a four. He turns the fifth ball through midwicket for a couple and then takes a single on the off-side.

The run rate has been good for New Zealand in the last few overs, with 37 runs from the last 38 balls as the two left-handers deal with the spinners quite well.

The 68-year-old Salgaoncar is seen agreeing to tamper with the pitch to suit the requirements put forth by the reporter. India Today TV said the video was shot on Tuesday evening.

It is not clear how Salgaoncar, a former pacer and one-time India probable, could have tweaked the pitch with just a few hours to go before the match, which will be played on Wednesday afternoon.

13:00   India face do-or-die match vs NZ in Pune
Welcome to the coverage of the second One-Day International between India and New Zealand in Pune on Wednesday.

An under pressure India will face their stiffest test in recent times when they try to bounce back in the three-match ODI series against a refreshed New Zealand in the must-win second game.

It is a must-win match for the Indians, who need to win to keep the three-match series alive.

Not many had also expected New Zealand to topple India in the series-opener at the Wankhede but the visitors, playing their first match since the ICC Champions Trophy in June, did it in emphatic style as they claimed a six-wicket victory.

It took a record breaking 200-run stand from Ross Taylor and Tom Latham to get the better of their formidable opponents, putting New Zealand on the cusp of a rare series win in India.

The hosts, no doubt, were off-colour at Wankhede but the Virat Kohli-led side is expected to come back hard at the Black Caps in the second ODI.

Kohli led from the front on Sunday with his 31st ODI ton but did not get the support from his team.

The dangerous opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma fell to the swing and accuracy of Trent Boult in Mumbai and they will now have to find a way to negotiate the left-arm pacer early on in their innings.

The Indian captain, who stuck a memorable hundred in his 200th ODI, would like to continue from where he left off. His role will be again crucial if the team has to set up a big total, provided it bats first.

The No. 4 spot remains a concern for the team management with 11 batsmen being tried at that position since the 2015 World Cup. Kedar Jadhav batted at that position on Sunday but failed to do the job.

Dinesh Karthik, batting at No. 5, played a decent knock in his comeback game, stitching a 73-run stand with captain Kohli before throwing his wicket away.
