Bhuvneshwar brought into the attack and he finishes it off with a wicket. 

He gets Richardson out LBW after Australia took the review.

Bhuvneshwar finishes with three wickets as India beat Australia comprehensively by 50 runs.

Kuldeep was the other star with his hat-trick. 

Bumrah comes back into the attack. Can he finish off the job for India?

Stoinis just flicks the ball over square leg for an easy six. That brings up Australia's 200.

Pandya continues and Stoinis is happy to keep the strike. He does not want the singles and is eyeing the bad balls for the big hits. 

And that is exactly what he does. He gets to his fifty with a powerful six behind the bowler.

Stoinis then gets a single and brings Richardson on strike who does well to play the ball well but does not take a single to keep Stoinis on strike.

Powerplay overs and Chahal continues.

Stoinis soldiering on here and smashes the ball over the bowler for a six. 

He follows that up with another sweep shot for a single.

Chahal bowls a jaffa to end the over and Richardson is clueless how to play around it.

Pandya continues and Stoinis takes a run off the third ball.

Off the very next ball, Coulter-Nile plays the ball right back at Pandya and he goes for 8 off 20.

No 11 bat Richardson gets an edge but just short of Kohli at slips.

Kohli does some great fielding at cover.

Stoinis dabs it and tries to take a run, sent back by and the dive saves him. 

Third umpire says not out. 

Stoinis then sweeps it well for a boundary through backward square leg. 

He then gets a couple of runs and that is 7 runs off the over.

Pandya brought back into the attack. 

Stoinis takes a single on the leg side and then bowls a good line to Coulter-Nile. 

Just two runs come off the over and that's drinks.

Kuldeep continues and this time Stoinis taking to the attack.

He first gets a boundary on the leg side and then gets another one by driving it through cover.

Kuldeep then bowls a wide and then Stoinis gets a single down to third man. 

Coulter-Nile survives the last two deliveries of the over.

Bumrah comes back into the attack.

Stoinis still at the crease while he loses partners at the other end. 

Coulter-Nile nearly gives Jadeja another catch. 

Again five runs off the over for Australia.

It looks like a matter of time before the Aussies will fold up.

Kuldeep continues and Coulter-Nile is all over it. 

The batsman then plays the ball behind  the keeper and Chahal does a good job to keep the ball inside the boundary.

Stoinis then gets a single and five runs come off the over.

Chahal comes back into the attack and gives away four runs.

Kuldeep continues and gets the wicket of Wade. Wade plays it on and he goes for a duck.

Ashton Agar goes next ball for a duck and then  Pat Cummins is caught behind.

Hardik Pandya continues. 

He has comeback well in his 2nd spell here. Smith gets a thick outside edge and that is an easy boundary to third man. 

Smith gone for 59! 

He pulls the short one, mistimed and the substitute fielder Ravindra Jadeja takes a good diving catch in the deep. 

Aus lose their 5th wicket. 

Chahal comes back for his 2nd spell and is asking a lot of questions off Stoinis and Smith. Just one run comes off the over.

Kuldeep continues and Stoinis and Smith doing well to keep the runs ticking. 

Stoinis makes most of the loose ball, it's overpitched and he drives the ball to the boundary through covers.

Pandya continues and he starts with a peach. It's cross seam and makes the batsman play. Smith beaten all ends up.

Pandya has hit the right length here and Smith is challenged.

Another one and Smith fishes outside again. 

The last ball of the over Smith just whips it through to fine leg for a boundary.

Smith gets to 18th ODI fifty with a single down to long on.

Just that one run comes off the over.

Pandya brought back into the attack and he bowls a good line and length to begin with.

He then drifts down the leg side and Stoinis does well to clip it off his pads down to square leg. Pandya does well to finish the over with a good ball. 

4 come off the over.

Kuldeep gets another chance but he again goes to the cleaners, this time Smith and Stoinis take 10 runs off him.

Chahal continues and Maxwell gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it to extra cover for no run.

Chahal gets the big wicket of Maxwell!

Maxwell comes down the pitch, the ball goes through his legs and is stumped by Dhoni for 14.

Stoinis comes into bat and gets a peach first up. He is beaten all ends up!

Bumrah brought back into the attack.

He gets Maxwell in all sorts of trouble as the ball just misses the off stump after getting the inside edge. 

Maxwell gets one in the ribs here from Bumrah. 

The batsman finally scampers for a single, he plays the ball to mid-wicket.

Chahal continues. Smith gets a single to long-off.

He then bowls a wide to Maxwell. Maxwell then gets the single on the off side. 

Just three runs off that over.

Kuldeep continues and Smith gets a run to start the over.

Maxwell on strike now and just frees his arms. He plays the ball with the turn and gets his first six!

He follows that with another cross-batted shot for another six. 100 comes up for Australia.

Kuldeep follows that up with a googly. Maxwell fails to capitalise on the wide ball.

Chahal continues and Smith is on strike.

He needs to stay at the crease to give Australia a chance. Smith takes one run off the last ball of the over.

Chahal continues and the batsmen are keeping the scoreboard ticking. 

Head and Smith playing comfortably, not taking any risks and just when that was written, Chahal bowls a full toss and Head plays it straight into the hands of Manish Pandey at short mid-on. 

Head gone for 39 off 39 and the partnership has broken.

Left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack.

And the batsmen play him nicely for singles and twos he gives four runs.

Chahal continues and he gets lot of turn. 

The ball strikes Head flush on the pads. The players appeal, umpire not interested. Kohli and Dhoni discuss but decide against going for the review.

Pandya continues and Head continues to go after him. After picking a couple of runs off the first ball, he then plays a perfectly time shot through mid-wicket. 

Smith then gets a couple and some good fielding relay at the deep by Chahal and Kuldeep keeps it down to 2 runs. 

Nine runs come off the over.

Bringing on the spinners could slow the pace of Australia's run-making here and it won't be a bad idea to employ spin from both ends.

Chahal comes into the attack and bowls well to give just two runs in the over.

What a shot! Smith drives Pandya through covers and Australia bring up their 50. 

Smith now plays the ball straight down the ground and the ball races past the bowler for a boundary.

Smith gets the third boundary in the over.

Pandya comes into the attack.

He bowls a short one and Head pulls it for a boundary.

Head plays through covers for 3 runs.

Bhuvi continues to bowl that probing line as the swing challenges Head.

Smith finds the gap, gets to the pitch of the ball and whips it for a boundary on the leg side.

Next ball and it's bowled short and wide and Smith latches on it and rightly hammers it for another four.

Smith then digs out a superb yorker Aus get before four byes. 

Rohit drops Head at slips! Will he make India pay?

Head gets a four past square leg, nicely placed and well timed.

Bumrah continues and Head gets an inside edge and the ball races to the fine leg boundary between the stump and his pads.

Head then gets a boundary through the off side. 

He looks in good touch here as he gets three runs to deep square leg.

Smith then gets a single to third man.

Bumrah ends the over with a dot. 12 runs off the over.

Warmer gone!

Bhuvneshwar gets another wicket. After testing the batsmen with his line, he finally gets his man.

Travis Head comes in at No 4 and gets a single to leg side. Leg byes signalled.

Bumrah makes the batsmen play and Smith goes fishing. 

Some more swing off the pitch for Bumrah and there is an edge past slips down to third man for a boundary.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes the first breakthrough and Australia right on the back foot now.

Cartwright bowled for 1.

After 5 dot balls the pressure was building on the batsmen and he finally caved in. He tried to play on the up and the ball goes past his bat to crash in to the top of the off stump.

Bumrah comes to bowl from the other end and what a way t o start. 

The ball shapes back into the stumps, thankfully for Cartwright the ball goes over the bails.

The swing is challenging the batsmen here. Cartwright fishes for the ball but is nicely taken by Dhoni.

Another superb ball as the ball shapes away from Warner after pitching.

Bhuvi opens the bowling for India with a superb line and he mixes the deliveries well.

Cartwright gets off the mark with a single off the 4th ball.

That's all the Aussie will get in the opening over.

17:52   Aus bowlers shine in death overs


India 252 (50 ovs) vs Australia | Scorecard

Australia's bowlers have done well to restrict India to just over 250, particularly after Kohli and Rahane's superb batting show in the middle overs.

But Steve Smith deserves a pat on the back for using his bowlers smartly. He rotated the bowlers well and they in turn mixed up the pace to put a strangle on India's scoring rate. 

Besides the captain, Rahane none of the batsmen could find their feet. 

The rain interruption did little to affect the Aus bowlers who did well to put a lid on the scoring at the death.

India manage to get past the 250-mark and are all out for 252 in the last over.

Richardson gets the last over, bowls a slower one, Pandya goes after the full toss only to hand a catch to Warner in the deep. 

He is out for 20.

Chahal comes to the crease and gets off the mark with a single. 

Another slower delivery but Bumrah slaps it past the infield for a boundary.

Bumrah then plays the ball behind point for a single.

Chahal is run out off the last ball of the last over.

Cummins comes back in the attack and does the damage. 

Kuldeep Yadav out for a duck. He tries to play it past slips but Wade takes a phenomenal diving catch to dismiss the batsman.

India lose their 8th wicket.

Bumrah comes to the crease and he plays a freak shot for a boundary. He swings his bat and gets a four to third man.

One run for Bumrah and Pandya comes on strike.

He does well to get a single and stay on strike for the last over.

The rain has stopped and the match has resumed.

Bhuvi tries to go after Richardson but is dropped by Smith after a good effort and the batsmen run two.

Bhuvi repeats the big shot and this time is caught by Maxwell at long on.

Richardson replaces Stoinis and  Bhuvi starts the over with 2 runs.

The bowler follows that up with a slower one. 

Bhuvi then gets a single and brings Pandya back on strike.

Out of nowhere there is a lot of rain but the play continues. 

Richardson bowls a waist-high full toss, Pandya goes after it and is caught by Smith. The Aus captain didn't want to chance it and threw the ball to the bowler to pull out the stumps. 

The bails come off, Pandya is out but the batsmen was recalled after the no-ball was called. 

Pandya gets a life and the covers are on as the heavens have come down at the Eden Gardens.

Coulter-Nile continues, Bhuveneshwar gets a boundary to fine leg. He mishits the ball but is lucky to get a four for it.

Wow! Bhuvneshwar tries to go after the bowler and he hits it flush on the head of non-striker Pandya. But Pandya gets back on his feet after medical inspection. 

Full length delivery and Bhuvi hits it to deep mid-on for a single. Seven runs come off the over.

Stoinis continues and the batsmen have to make do with singles. 

Just four runs given away. 




Coulter-Nile brought back in to the attack with the hope of a wicket.

There is no breakthrough in the over but India get just two runs off it.

Stoinis continues and after 4 dot balls Bhuvneshwar pulls the ball for a couple and that is all that India will get in the over.

And the bowler strikes again! Kohli chops it on to his stumps and he goes back for 92 off 107.

Pandya comes to the crease and he nearly chops it on but is fortunate enough as the ball runs to the boundary to fine leg. He gets off the mark with a four.

Stoinis continues and so does his battering at the hands of Kohli.

The Indian captain plays a stupendous shot, just a mere push and the ball races to the boundary past covers.

Coulter-Nile strikes and Jadhav gone for a well made 24 off as many deliveries.

The bowler bowls a slower delivery, Jadhav plays the cut only to place it straight in the hands of Glenn Maxwell at backward point.

Dhoni comes in place of Jadhav and he pulls the ball for a boundary on the on side to start positively.

Jadhav then times the ball perfectly to send the ball over third man for a six!

Kohli plays the ball fine but dead ball called by umpire as the rag falls off Agar. 

Jadhav hammers Agar for a couple of boundaries to spoil his figures as 11 runs come off the over.

Medium pacer Stoinis comes back into the attack.

He bowls on the off stump and Jadhav can't get the ball past the in field. 

He bowls wide on the off side and that is another extra for India.

India do well to run a single and then Kohli cuts the ball well, using the pace to send the ball behind point for a boundary.

Drinks are called as India take control of proceedings. 

The Aussies are struggling with the heat and are unable to find those wicket-taking deliveries.

Kohli and Jadhav, on the other hand, have motored along well to get the total past the 150-mark.

Richardson continues and the singles and twos are coming easily for India. 

Kohli and Jadhav are placing the ball beautifully in the gaps and getting the quick runs and 6 runs come off the over.

Pandey misses the ball completely. It's the arm ball and it launches straight into the bails.

India lose their third wicket as Pandey goes for 3 off 13.

Coulter-Nile continues and he is hitting the right lengths.

The bowler is mixing it up well and gives just two in the over.

Travis Head continues and India easily get the singles and twos off him.

Coulter-Nile brought back into the attack and Pandey gets off the mark with a single to mid-wicket.

Rahane cuts the ball for a boundary to bring up the 100 run partnership.

A ball later, Rahane is short of his crease. He for the an unnecessary 2nd that he is unsure of but runs at Kohli's insistence. Brilliant pick-up and throw from the deep by Cartwright and that is the end of his innings. 

Manish Pandey comes in at No 4 and is yet to get off the mark.

Pat Cummins continues and gives away four runs in the over.

Rahane gets to his 20th ODI fifty with a single to square leg.

India are happy to take the singles and twos off Agar, who then bowls a wide.

Kohli takes a single to cover.

Rahane cuts it but Maxwell at point gets a hand to it and a single is all that India get.

Stoinis continues and Kohli pulls the ball past mid-on for a boundary.

The bowler is mixing up the deliveries making the batsmen think.

He bowls a slower one and it hold on to Kohli for a bit who plays it to covers.

Another short ball that Kohli squats to mid-wicket for a couple.

Close call for India but India get two overthrows. 8 come off that over.

Agar continues. 

The spinner is getting no help from the wicket and he is doing precious little to make a breakthrough. 

That said, he gets a little turn and Rahane nearly plays it into the hands of keeper Wade.

Stoinis continues. 

He bowls a wide to leg side which Wade does well to take it diving down despite his sickness.

Rahane gets two runs behind square. 

Stoinis tries to york Rahane, the batsman picks the ball and plays it down to third man for a single.

Kohli ends the over with a single to point.

Agar continues.

Rahane cuts the ball well behind point as the sweeper cover fields the ball to keep the runs down to two.

He follows that up with a smart single to mid-wicket. 

Kohli also plays the ball for a single to long off.

Richardson continues. 

Kohli cannot find the gaps. He hits it straight down, just too straight as the ball crashes into the stumps at the non-strikers' end.

Kohli pulls one to deep mid-wicket for a single.

Rahane dabs it for a single to third man. 

Just two runs off that over and drinks are called.

Smith finally brings on the spinner and Ashton Agar comes in to the attack.

The left arm spinner hardly looks threatening as Kohli and Rahane complete their 50-run partnership.

Richardson continues and Kohli gets a single to deep square leg.

Lovely! Kohli finally looks good. Half volley and the Indian captain plays a superb cover drive for a boundary.

The next ball is a lovely single.

Aus keeper Mathew Wade is getting medical attention as he begins to throw up. 

Earlier, Richardson was under scrutiny for a bad back. Not looking good for Australia here. 

Rahane plays the last ball of the over down to third man as Richardson gives away eight runs in his over.

Stoinis nearly has Kohli who pulls the ball, the shot is mistimed and is short of the man at short mid-on. He gets a single.

Kohli gets two consecutive runs to deep extra cover and then a single behind point. 

Stoinis is changing his pace well here but is unable to make the breakthrough. Six come off the over.

Kohli's scrappy innings continues. He plays the ball to the on side for the singles. 

Rahane plays Richardson to third man and Kohli comes back on strike.

The Indian captain pats it to point for no run but he ends the over with a tennis-shot like squat of the ball. He pulls it behind square to end the over with a four.

Kane Richardson replaces Cummins.

Kohli gets the ball into him, but he plays it well enough to register his first four, punching the ball through covers.

The ball gets big on him but he manages to play it safely down to third man for a single. 

Rahane plays the last ball of that over for another boundary, this time behind point.

What a shot! Rahane gets to the pitch of the ball, opens the bat face and drives it through cover for another beautifully timed boundary. Welcome back Coulter-Nile.

Rahane lives dangerously, nearly plays the ball onto his stumps. Thankfully for him the ball misses the stumps.

Rahane gets another boundary, this time he plays it past mid-off to add another four to his account. Rahane playing a nice little knock here.

Cummins continues and Kohli is still a bit shaky starting off.

The Indian captain is unable to get going smoothly here.

Coulter-Nile continues. Rohit plays it straight back to the bowler who grabs a catch in the second attempt on his follow through.

Kohli comes in to bat. He goes at the wide ball and it goes just past the slip fielder. Kohli off the mark with a single.

Coulter-Nile bowls a little wide and the umpire stretches out his arms.

He bowls another wide down the leg side. This is not good especially after taking that wicket off his first ball. 

Rahane ends the over with a sublime boundary. Gets the ball in the area and he drives it through the cover region for a four.

Rohit gone for 7 and India lose their first wicket.

Rohit hares down the pitch for a single. 

Cummins gets Rahane on the pads, he appeals but the umpire is not interested. 

The ball was going down leg and the height was a factor.

Wow! Cummins hits the seam, it's an off-cutter and Rahane does well to evade it. 

Just one run comes off that dramatic over!

From the other end, Coulter-Nile bowls a full pitched delivery and this time Rahane makes full use of the gift. He places it well through covers for his first boundary.

Australia captain Steve Smith will be playing his 100th ODI today in Kolkata under overcast conditions. 

With Cummins, Richardson and Coulter-Nile among the quicks, Australia will want to make early inroads to stem the flow of runs early in India's innings. 

In the press briefing on Wednesday, Smith had reposed confidence in his squad saying, "We think they've got a lot of talent and we've got a team here that can hopefully challenge India in the next couple of games".

Australia will have to pull their socks up if they have to challenge India and draw level in the 2nd ODI.

India skipper Virat Kohli elected to bat after winning the toss against Australia in the second ODI in Kolkata today.   

India are fielding an unchanged side from the last game in Chennai which they won by 26 runs while Australia have made two changes to their side.   Right-arm fast bowler Kane Richardson comes in place of James Faulkner 
while leg-spinner Adam Zampa makes way for left-arm spinner Ashton Agar.
