No. 9 Sam Curran slammed a quickfire half-century to save England the blushes before they were bundled out for 180 in their second innings, on Day 3 of the first Test.

England set India 194 runs to win the first Test match on a pitch offering a lot of assistance to the fast bowlers.

Ishant Sharma was the pick of the Indian bowlers, as he claimed five for 51 in 13 overs, including three wickets in a single over.

Ravichandran Ashwin had run through the top order to finish with three for 59, while Umesh Yadav took two for 20.

England were struggling 187 for seven at one stage before Curran's counter-attack salvaged the situation. The 20-year-old, playing in only his second Test match, hit nine fours and two sixes in his 65-ball knock.

He had also starred with the ball for England, taking four wickets in India's first innings.
