Eng 86-6 (30.4 ovs) & 287 vs India 274 | Scorecard

Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three wickets each to leave England reeling on 86 for six at lunch on Day three of the first Test.

England, who resumed on nine for one, lost five wickets in the morning session for 77 runs in 27 overs.

Ashwin again set the tone for India with the early wicket on Day 3, that of Keaton Jennings for 8, caught in the slips. Captain Joe Root made 14 before he hit straight into the hands of KL Rahul at leg slip to give Ashwin his third wicket of the innings.

Ishant then left England reeling with a three-wicket burst. Getting a lot of movement, the lanky pacer hit the right areas to give England's batsmen a lot of problems and give India control with a few quick wickets.

Left-hander David Malan was caught at gully for 20, before he accounted for Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes in the final over of the session.

With an overall lead of just 99 runs, England will need the in-form Jos Buttler to take responsibility with the bat and hope that he can help them a competitive total in the company of the lower order.
