England destroyed India by an innings and 159 runs to win the second Test match at Lord's and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series, on Day 4, on Sunday.

India's batting flopped once again as they were shot out for a lowly 130 in 47 overs in their second innings. They had managed just 107 in their first innings before England declared on 396 for seven to take a huge 289-run lead.

Ravichandran Ashwin finished unbeaten on 33 and was once again the highest run-scorer for India in the second innings as the top order failed miserably for the second time in helpful conditions.

It was the England pacers, who did the damage with the ball, with Stuart Broad and James Anderson picking up four wickets each. Chris Woakes, who hit an unbeaten century, claimed two wickets as England came up with a dominating performance to rout the World No. 1 Test team.

Ashwin has looked good with the bat in both innings. He watchfully defends the first five balls from Woakes before steering the last ball past the slips for a four.

Shami doesn't want to waste any time as he tries a reckless wild swing against Anderson but misses it completely and is given out leg before for a duck.

Anderson, who picked up five wickets in the first innings, had claimed his fourth wicket of the second innings and is in chance with of picking up 10 wickets in the match.

Ishant Sharma clips the fourth ball behind square on the leg side for two runs to get off the mark before he is beaten again outside the off-stump.

Woakes gets the ball to spit off the pitch as Ashwin is again hit on the gloves but it falls short of the slips.

Ashwin has again suffered a painful blow on his hand, forcing the physio to rush out. He steers the next delivery to the left of thirdman and comes across for the second run, having to dive at the end to make his crease.

Woakes bowls it full and on the stumps as Ashwin taps the fourth ball on the leg side for a single.

Ishant Sharma flicks the last ball straight into the hands of the fielder at leg slip to be caught for a duck as India are bowled out for 130 to lose by a huge margin of an innings and 159 runs.

Ashwin tickles Anderson fine on the leg side for a four before he takes one off the next ball.

Kuldeep then gets an inside edge which goes on to the stumps to be bowled for a duck.

Anderson strikes two balls later with the wicket of Shami, who looks to pull a leg side bouncer and is caught down the leg side for a duck.

But Shami takes the DRS and rightly so as the ball was a long way from the bat and gloves which means the decision has to be overturned.

James Anderson comes back into the attack. Ashwin slashes a short wide delivery over the thirdman region for a four and then takes one.

Pandya is beaten off the last ball as Anderson produces a cracking outswinger which is switched on and around the off-stump, forcing the right-hander to play.

In the next over, Pandya plays an uppish flick off Broad through the vacant midwicket region for another boundary to raise the 50-run stand for the seventh wicket.

England make a change as Woakes comes into the attack and he breaks the partnership.

Pandya is given out leg before wicket for 26 after England took the review. Umpire Aleem Dar had initially ruled him not out but England took the DRS which showed that the ball struck Pandya in line and was going on to hit the leg stump.

New batsman Kuldeep Yadav is beaten first ball by the away going delivery from Woakes before he manages to survives the rest of the over.

Broad beats Ashwin with the inswinger as he gets the inside edge before the right-hander clips the next ball using his wrists to good effect for a boundary through midwicket.

Two balls later, he makes most of some width as he steers Broad past the slips for three runs.

Broad tries the full inswinger again but this time Pandya is up to the task as he clips it through midwicket for another boundary.

Curran bowls a maiden over to Ashwin before Broad gets Pandya to edge one in the next over but it goes past the slips for a four. The incoming delivery then gets the better of Pandya as he is hit high on the pads before he chases a wide one and is beaten.

Curran drifts on the pads as Ashwin tries the glances but misses and picks up four byes. He then slashes at a wide delivery which flies uppishly past point for a boundary.

Pandya looking a bit more comfortable than some of his other team mates earlier in the day. A full delivery on the stumps by Broad is punched down the ground with a straight by Pandya for a boundary to take his score to 20, the only Indian batsmen to reach the 20-run mark in this innings.

That boundary also helps India cross the 100-run mark in their second innings, in the 39th over.

Play resumes at Lord's as Broad starts off the with the ball in the post-tea session.

Hardik Pandya lets the first two balls go through before he blocks the third ball watchfully.

Broad gets one to bounce steeply and also come in sharply, hitting Pandya on the gloves and he seems to be in some pain as he throws his bat away immediately and calls for the physio.

After a few minutes of treatment, Pandya continues as he watchfully defends the next ball with a straight bat.

Left-arm pacer Sam Curran to bowl from the other end. Ashwin plays a cracking cover drive but Root saves the boundary with a full length dive to keep it down to one. Pandya tucks the next ball off his hips on the leg side for another single.

Some extra bounce for Curran as Ashwin is also hit on the gloves by a delivery which spits off quite alarmingly from length, forcing physio Patrick Farhat to rush out again to attend to the off-spinner.

Pandya clips the last ball through midwicket to end the over with a four.

The covers are being taken off as the rain has stopped while the umpires have taken tea in the meanwhile.

India are facing a big defeat after being reduced to a lowly 66 for six in 32 overs, with all their top batsmen again coming short on a lively wicket against the England fast bowlers.

Pandya nudges Curran on the leg side for a single to get off the mark. The left-arm pacer beats Ashwin with one that slants across him before an incoming delivery hits him high on the pads and the leg before call is turned down.

England's charge is halted again by rain as the drizzle picks up at Lord's.

The players come off with India tottering on 66 for six in 32 overs, needing another 223 runs to avoid the innings defeat.

In the post-lunch session, India have so far lost four wickets for 51 runs in 23 overs as they stand on the brink of an embarrassing defeat.

Kohli is also beaten by the incoming delivery from Broad but the leg before appeal is turned down.

He takes a single from the next ball before Pandya defends the rest of the over.

In the next over, Kohli inside edges Curran for two runs on the leg side but three balls later he gets one perfectly off the middle, punching a full delivery down the ground for a four followed by a single to take his score to 15.

In the next over, Kohli looks to flick a short ball from Broad fine but misses as wicketkeeper Bairstow collects it down the leg side and appeals for catch down the leg side but it is turned down.

England take the review but it turns out to be a waste as for the seventh time in the match the umpires decision turns out to be a correct one.

The next ball is full and swings in sharply as Kohli gets it off the pads and the fielder at short leg does well to dive forward and take the catch.

Umpire Aleem Dar gives him caught off the inside edge and Kohli immediately takes the review.

And the ball has kissed the gloves on the way to the short leg fielder as Kohli walks back for 17, with India left in shambles on 61 for five.

Dinesh Karthik gets a beauty first up as the ball is full and swings in to hit him right in front of the stumps and he is given out leg before by umpire Dar.

Another review taken by India and they end up losing their second and final review.

Two wickets in two balls, both reviews lost as India slip to a lowly 61 for six.

Karthik got a cracking delivery first ball and he was also guilty of not coming full forward to get out of the line.

Beautiful spell by Broad, who has taken four for 16 in his 11th over.

Broad on a hat-trick! But he can't get the hat-trick as he tries to repeat the same delivery but this time it goes way down the leg side for four byes.

A single to Kohli on the off-side off Curran followed by a leg bye to Pujara off the next ball helps India raise their 50, in the 26th over.

Broad is rewarded for his superb bowling with another wicket. Pujara is beaten by the inswinger as the ball brushes the pads and goes on to hit the stumps.

The right-hander walks back for patient 17 from 87 balls, as India slip to 50 for four.

Kohli picks an easy single as he turns Curran on the leg side for a single.

Hardik Pandya is beaten twice in the over by the deliveries slanting across him as the ball moves away enough.

Captain Virat Kohli walks in at No. 5. Pujara clips the third ball through square leg for two runs and then gets a bye from the next ball as wicketkeeper Bairstow fumbles.

Kohli not looking too comfortable as he defends a full delivery from Woakes and then looks in some discomfort. He is not in good shape but has come out to bat for the sake of the team and it remains to be seen how long India will risk him.

Sam Curran comes into the attack to replace Woakes. Kohli stretches forward to defend a full delivery and takes a single off the third ball as he clips it to square leg and labours across the pitch for one. He is feeling the pain as he limps across to complete the single. This is not good news for the Indian camp.

Curran overpitches as Pujara punches it down the ground for a four, his first after 69 balls, to take the score to 43 for three in 22 overs, still trailing by 246 runs.

Kohli again batting out of his crease and is coming well forward to full deliveries before Broad pushes him back with a short ball which is defended on the leg side.

Broad then drifts wide as Kohli flays it through the covers without much of a fuss for a boundary.

The fast bowler nearly gets back with a cracking delivery which jags away a lot to leave Kohli all at sea as it passes very close to the bat.

Curran gets Pujara to poke at a wide one who is beaten and he does it again three balls later before he takes a single on the leg side.

Broad in midst of a wonderful spell as Pujara gets an inside edge trying to cut before he is beaten by the incoming delivery which flicks the pads.



19:14   Rahane out for 13; India 3 down

Rahane taps Woakes on the off-side for a single and Pujara also picks one from the next ball.

Woakes then slips it down the leg side as Rahane glances it fine for a four but is beaten next ball as the pacer gets the ball to move away.

Broad comes into the attack in place of Anderson. Pujara picks another easy single on the off-side before Rahane gets an inside edge for a single to fine leg.

The two experienced batsmen -- Rahane and Pujara -- have settled down well and are looking to take singles and keep the scoreboard ticking along.

They easily collect three singles from the 18th over bowled by Woakes.

Pujara has spent considerable time at the wicket, scoring 10 from 57 balls so far, while Rahane is on 13 from 27 balls.

Broad beats Rahane with one that moves away a lot before he strikes with the next ball to get the Indian vice-captain dismissed in the slips for 13.

Rahane chases a wide full delivery and this time he gets the edge to perish cheaply as India are reduced to 35 for three in 19 overs.

James Anderson from the other end. Pujara is happy to leave the wide outswingers, four balls in a row, before Anderson nearly strikes with one that comes in but luckily for Pujara there is enough bounce to take it over the stumps.

Pujara taps the last ball on the off-side for a single.

Woakes tries a short ball to Pujara who defends it watchfully before he does the same with the next delivery.

The third ball is full as Pujara taps it into the off-side for a single as India crawl to 20 for two in 12 overs.

Anderson trying everything and it is a real test for Pujara as he keeps out an entire over from the fast bowler.

Rahane breaks the shackles as he drives a wide half-volley from Woakes through the covers for a four.

Woakes comes back immediately as he beats Rahane with the outswinger as the India captain has a loose poke away from his body.

Two balls later, Rahane gets the edge but it falls just short of the fielder at first slip.

Pujara has a close shave in the next over as he initially looks to leave but hangs his bat out as the ball goes off the face of the bat but falls short of the second slip fielder.

Play is yet to begin after the lunch interval with the covers still in place. It has stopped raining but the covers are yet to be taken off.

India will be happy to see rain interrupt play and delay proceedings. However, England have plenty of time in hand to force a result. There are still five sessions to go in the match and with the overhead conditions and the way how England's fast bowlers have dominated with the ball, they would fancy their chances of bowling out the Indians in a couple of session.

Rain brings an early halt to proceedings in the morning session as India walk into the lunch break on 17 for two in nine overs, still needing another 272 runs to avoid the innings defeat.

Pujara is unbeaten on five from 24 balls and Rahane is on one with captain Virat Kohli having to drop down the order after he didn't take the field in the morning session because of a stiff back.

It was James Anderson once again who did the damage as he dismissed both the openers very early.

Murali Vijay was caught behind off an inside edge for a duck while KL Rahul was dismissed leg before wicket for 10.

Earlier, England declared their first innings on 396 for seven in 88.1 overs after taking a huge lead of 289 runs.

Chris Woakes finished unbeaten on a splendid 137 not out, his maiden century in Test cricket. He put on 76 runs for the seventh wicket with Sam Curran, who stroked a fluent 40, before his wicket to Hardik Pandya resulted in England's declaration.

In the next over, Pujara tries to play the drive but gets an inside edge to fine leg for one, as the ball narrowly misses the stumps.

In the next over, Rahul taps Broad on the off-side for one before Pujara clips the fourth ball of his pads for two.

Anderson strikes again with the wicket of Rahul, who is trapped leg before wicket for 10. The ball came in sharply as Rahul played across the line but was struck in front of the stumps and he was happy to walk back without taking the review.

Ajinkya Rahane walks in at No. 4 with Virat Kohli captain having to wait for his turn to bat, having spent time off the field in the morning due to a stiff back.

Rahane gets off the mark with a single and Pujara takes one off the fifth ball but India are in trouble on 15 for two in seven overs.

India's primary task will be see off the new ball and both Murali Vijay and KL Rahul would be looking to come up with an improved showing in the second innings.

Rahul again leaves the third ball before going right back to watchfully block it and offers no stroke to the last two balls as the first two overs are maiden overs.

Facing a huge deficit, India are yet to score but they lose an early wicket. Vijay gets an inside edge and is caught behind off Anderson for a duck.

A tentative Vijay was half forward as Anderson got it to swing in and take the inside edge of the bat.

Cheteshwar Pujara nearly falls off the last ball as Anderson produces another gem of a delivery.

Three overs, no runs, and India have lost their opener Viay, with another 289 needed to avoid an innings defeat.

England declared their first innings on 396 for seven in 88.1 overs after Hardik Pandya dismissed Sam Curran, caught at thirdman for 40.

Chris Woakes finished unbeaten on a splendid innings of 137 from 177 balls, hitting 21 fours, to help England gain a huge 289-run first innings lead.

After struggling on 131 for five at one stage, England turned the game on it's head courtesy of Woakes's brilliant century as he put on 189 runs for the sixth wicket with Jonny Bairstow, who made 93.

For India, Shami and Pandya picked up three wickets each but it was a disappointing effort by the Indian bowlers as they struggled even against the likes of Woakes and Curran.

Facing a huge first innings lead of 289 runs, India will need to bat out of their skin to save the match.

Question marks also remain over Captain Virat Kohli's fitness, who didn't take the field on Day 4 owing to a stiff back.

Curran drives Ishant to mid-off for a single before Woakes get a thick outside edge which flies past the slips for a four.

He gets the next ball off the middle as he steers a wide ball square on the off-side for a boundary before keeping strike with a single from the last ball.

A single each to Woakes and Curran before the former is beaten yet again by Shami.

Woakes has had a few problems against Shami, who beats him yet again outside the off-stump. The fast bowler must be thinking what more he needs to find the edge.

Ishant tries a short as Curran plays a stylish pull shot with Viay at mid-on half stopping it to keep it down to two runs.

England have been able to maintain a good run rate throughout as their lead inches towards the 300-run mark.

Curran makes room and slashes Shami through the point region for a four. An angry Shami tries a short ball as the England left-hander clubs it over square leg for a six with a strange pull short.

Curran going for his shots and it looks like England might declare soon and take advantage of the overhead conditions.

Woakes also going for his shots. He looks for a big drive through the off-side but gets a thick outside edge for a boundary over the slips for a four and the next ball is carved over the off-side for two more runs as 17 runs come from the over.

England will continue to bat and build their lead on a gloomy day at Lord's. Mohammed Shami will open the bowling for India.

He starts with a wide delivery which moves away quite a lot as Sam Curran leaves it alone and it moves away enough to beat a diving wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for four byes.

Curran defends the next two balls before he is beaten by one which comes in slightly and he turns the fifth ball on the leg side for a single.

The last ball is pitched and swings away beating centurion Chris Woakes, who goes for the drive through the off-side but misses.

Ishant Sharma to bowl from the other end. He starts with an excellent delivery, which moves away at the last minute to beat Curran outside the off-stump.

Ishant making Curran play with a good line on and around the off-stump as he starts off with a maiden over.

Woakes taps Shami to point and picks a single before Curran is beaten by a beauty, bounce and movement, to beat the left-hander.

Curran picks a single off the third ball before Woakes is beaten outside the off-stump by a perfect outswinger from Shami.

Shami keeps plugging at that same line and length to beat Woakes for the remaining two deliveries of the over.

Welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the second Test between England and India at Lord's on Sunday.

A desperate India would be aiming for quick wickets and finish off England's innings to keep themselves alive in the contest.

The third day belonged to England with Chris Woakes hitting a maiden Test century and Jonny Bairstow scored 93 as England reached 357-6 to open up a significant 250-run lead over India.

Arriving at the crease with England 131-5, Woakes back in the side as a replacement for Ben Stokes scored freely in a partnership of 189 with Bairstow, bringing up his century with a pull for three.

Bairstow looked set to join him in getting his name on the Lords honours board, but the Yorkshireman fell for 93, caught excellently by wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik after he nicked a Hardik Pandya delivery.

Woakes, who ended the day unbeaten on 120, struck 18 boundaries at the home of cricket and was joined at the crease by effervescent youngster Sam Curran (22 not out) who again looked confident after impressing with both bat and ball in the opening test at Edgbaston.

After rain washed out the first days play and interrupted much of day two, bad light brought proceedings to a close with England in a commanding lead.
