India claimed the final England wicket to win the third Test by 203 runs, on Day 5, in Nottingham on Wednesday.

Chasing a huge 521 for victory, England were bundled out for 317 in their second innings with Jasprit Bumrah picking up five for 85.

The hosts, who resumed on 311 for nine, lasted just 17 balls and 10 minutes on the final day.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the final wicket as he got James Anderson caught by Ajinkya Rahane for 11, while Adil Rashid finished unbeaten on 33.

India managed to cut England's lead in the series to 2-1, setting up an exciting fourth test encounter at Southampton starting next Thursday.

The impressive Jaspit Bumrah took five wickets but the entire Indian seam attack produced excellent sustained accuracy on Day 4, helped by some outstanding catching and some awful shot-selection from England's top order.

Jos Buttler's maiden Test century in a 169-run partnership with Ben Stokes (62) provided some resistance after Englands top four had been removed for 62 before lunch.

Put into bat, India made 329 in their first innings courtesy of Virat Kohli's 97 before England were sent packing for 161 after Hardik Pandya took five for 28.

Kohli hit a century (103) in their second innings, with Cheteshwar Pujara (72) and Hardik Pandya (52) also scoring half-centuries to power India to 352 for seven, setting them a huge 521 for victory.

Just a single over for Pandya before Ashwin comes into the attack. Anderson gets a thick outside edge off the first ball and Ishant running behind the ball nearly flicks the ball over the ropes in an attempt to give a four and keep the left-hander on strike. But he stops the ball inside the ropes and Anderson gets three runs.

Rashid slog sweeps as he miscues it to fine leg for a single before Ashwin finishes off the match as he claims the final wicket.

Ashwin gets some extra bounce as Anderson is hit on the gloves trying to play the cut and is caught by Rahane for 11.

It took India just 10 minutes on the final day to claim the last England wicket. England are bowled out for 317 in their second innings to lose by a huge margin of 203 runs.

Hardik Pandya opens the bowling for India on Day 5. James Anderson taps the first ball to point before he ducks under the next ball, which is a bouncer.

Pandya again drops short but which doesn't get up much as Anderson avoids and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant does well to collect as the ball moves a bit after passing the batsman.

The fourth ball is wide as Anderson throws his bat but is beaten before he rocks right back to defend and is beaten by some movement and is struck on the back thigh pad. He is beaten off the last ball as Pandya gets it to slant across the left-hander.

Mohammed Shami to bowl from the other end. Adil Rashid clips the first ball off his pads as the injured Ashwin jogs slowly after the ball but England's batsmen are happy to collect just two.

Rashid defends the next two balls before he attempts to pull a short ball down the leg side and misses and blocks the last two balls.

Eng 311-9 (101 ovs); Target to win: 521 | Scorecard

Welcome to the coverage of the fifth and final day of the third Test between England and India in Nottingham on Wednesday.

India need one more wicket to thrash England in the third Test at Trent Bridge after the hosts ended the fourth day on 311 for nine, 210 runs short of their target.

Defeat on Wednesday will see Englands lead in the five Test series cut to 2-1, setting up an exciting fourth test encounter at Southampton starting next Thursday.

Jos Buttlers maiden Test century in a 169-run partnership with Ben Stokes (62) provided some resistance after Englands top four had been removed for 62 before lunch.

The second new ball proved decisive though as India picked up five wickets in the evening session.

The impressive Jaspit Bumrah took five wickets but the entire Indian seam attack produced excellent sustained accuracy throughout Tuesdays play, helped by some outstanding catching and some awful shot-selection from Englands top order.

Buttler (106) and Ben Stokes (62) batted throughout the afternoon session, showing the kind of focus and grit that was needed if England were to get anywhere close to saving the test.

But the second new ball put paid to any illusions of a miracle from the hosts.

Bumrah trapped Buttler lbw to end the fifth wicket partnership and then Jonny Bairstow, playing with a fractured finger, was bowled by the Indian seamer with his first ball.

There was variety to Bumrahs approach and it was a bouncer that removed Chris Woakes, who gloved a sharply rising delivery to Pant.

Stokes went in the next over, a sharply moving delivery from Hardik Pandya squaring him up as he edged to Rahul at second slip.

Stuart Broad (20) and Adil Rashid (30 not out) played their shots with the contest all but over, Broad giving Bumrah his fifth wicket of the day as he too was caught by Rahul.

Bumrah thought he had his five earlier when he bowled Rashid but the video review found he had no-balled.

India had taken the extra time available to try and wrap the game up before the close but they will need to return on Wednesday to conclude their inevitable triumph.
