India beat Aus by 8 wickets to lift Under-19 World Cup

13:32   Win record 4th title after Kalra hits ton

India beat Australia by 8 wickets to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup final for a record 4th time. 

India were unbeaten in the tournament and did well to clinically shoot out the Aussies in a superb final. 

Prithvi Shaw has now joined the likes of Mohammad Kaif (2002), Virat Kohli (2008) and Unmukt Chand (2012) in leading the side to the Under-19 World Cup title.

India need 5 as Sutherland continues.

Kalra gets his ton off the second ball of the over. He plays the ball to backward square leg for his century.

The win comes with Desai hitting a four square of the wicket!

India win by 8 wickets.


India need 6 to win and Kalra needs one to get to his 10.

Uppal continues and drops a dolly. A return catch missed. Desai gets lucky.

Desai cuts and that single brings Kalra on strike.

Kalra defends two dot and he is still on 99.

India need 14 to win as Sutherland comes back into the attack.

Desai plays the ball square for a single and that gets Kalra on strike. 

Kalra on 98 and no run there. Next ball he tucks it to the on side for a single. Now he is one run short of a ton.

Sutherland then bowls a bouncer to Desai and a wide signalled.

Another short ball and Desai pulls it towards mid-on for a boundary.

Last ball of the over, he takes a single to keep the strike.

Uppal continues. 

Flights the ball and Desai hammers it through mid-wicket for a four.

Two balls later he gets a single that brings Manjot on strike. 

He gets a single to deep mid-off that takes him to 98.

Single off the last ball and seven off the over and India are coasting to a record 4th ICC Under-19 World Cup title.
Pope continues, it's a googly and it's a short ball and Desai just plays the ball off his pads through mid-wicket for a boundary.

The batsmen then run another 4 and that's 8 big runs off the over.

Uppal continues and he is mixing it well. But the Indian batsmen are just creaming every ball for the singles and twos.

In the air! Kalra smashes it over Uppal's head -- the ball grazes the bowler's fingertips on the follow through. Just one run to the batter but that is a dropped catch.. 

Pope comes back into the attack and gives away just one run.

Uppal continues and gives only two runs in the over after exhibition of some beautiful ground fielding.

Merlo continues and six runs come off the over as Kalra nears the three-figure mark..

It's should be a simple task for India from here on end as the batsmen are batting with ease, milking the bowlers at will.

Uppal continues. 

Desai and Kalra keep the scoreboard ticking and five runs come off the over.

Pope brought back into the attack and Desai gets a single off the first ball.

Kalra picks the flighted delivery off the last ball of the over and sends it over deep mid-wicket for a massive maximum!

Uppal continues, slightly wide and Desai plays it through the slip cordon to the third man boundary. Single for Desai.
 
Flighted delivery, Desai has a go at it, shot is not controlled and McSweeney drops the catch as he runs back to take catch. Unfortunately, he can't get a hold of it and Desai gets a life.

Hadley continues. 

Short ball and Kalra makes room and plays it past point for a boundary.

Kalra then plays a shot through point for a single that brings up India's 150.

Desai takes a single to backward square leg.

Uppal continues. He is tossing the ball up, giving no easy runs to the batsmen and the Aus groundfielding is also commendable. 

Hadley comes back into the attack and Kalra hits a nice shot and well fielded at covers to keep the runs down to just one.

Just three come off the over.

Uppal continues and he gives three runs in the over. 

Merlo continues and Kalra just milking the bowling here. The singles and twos are coming at will as Aus struggle to plug these runs.

Again, five runs come off the over.

Uppal continues and he gets the big wicket. 

Gill comes down the track but is beaten all ends up and is bowled for 31. 

Australia get 2nd breakthrough. Can the Aussies crank up the heat now.

Harvik Desai gets off  the mark with a single.

Wow! Uppal has Desai guessing and makes him play of consecutive balls. 

Good over that. 

Merlo continues and Kalra cuts the ball past point for a boundary.

He follows that up with a single to point. 

Gill gets a run to backward point and Merlo nearly makes something happen off the last ball of the over. Gill fishes, it's a play and a miss.

The batsmen cruising here as 5 easy runs come off the over.

Offie Uppal comes into the attack and fifty partnership between Gill and Kalra comes after the latter gets a single.

And that's drinks!

India now just 101 runs away from a historic victory.

Sutherland continues and Gill just plays the most exquisite shot. 

He just follows through with the shot, cuts it past point for a boundary.

Gill then plays the ball down to third man for a single. Six runs come off the over. 

Evans is brought back into the attack and Kalra plays the most immaculate straight drive for a boundary off the third ball.

Kalra dabs the ball square of the wicket on the off-side for a single to bring up his half-century.

Sutherland continues and Gill plays it in the air. Falls just short of the fielder at covers. 

Gill then just leans into the delivery and times the ball through covers for a boundary. That brings up India's 100.

Pope continues and Gill cuts the ball backward of point for a couple.

The batsman then just slaps the ball through covers for a boundary.

Pope then gives away three more runs as India take 9 runs off Pope in the over.

Sutherland continues and Gill cuts the ball down to third man for a single. 

Just the wide and a single in that over.

Spinner Pope introduced into the attack and he start poorly.

He gives 13 runs in the over -- including a six and a four.

Shubham Gill comes to the crease and Sutherland bowls wide and 1 run comes for India.

He bowls a yorker that is picked out well by Kalra.

A wicket and 3 runs in that over.

Sutherland continues and gets the breakthrough!

He pitches the ball up, gets some in-swing and that's enough to knock off Shaw's off stump bail.

The Indian captain is out for 29.

Edwards comes into the attack and Kalra is showing him no mercy.

He has whacked the bowler for three superb boundaries in the over to take 15 runs off the bowler.

Sutherland comes into the attack and gives away just three runs. 


Hadley is hammered for couple of fours and 11 runs come off the over.

Will Sutherland comes into the attack.

He pitches the ball up and Kalra swings his arms. The ball goes in the air but falls in no man's land on the off side. Two runs for Kalra.

The bowler's come back well to give only a single off the last ball of the over. Three runs come off it. 

Hadley continues. Two runs for Shaw off the 2nd ball of the over.

That's a sweet sounding shot. Shaw gets to the pitch of the ball and times it perfectly through covers for a boundary.

Another superb shot, same area, same shot and that is another four through the covers and that brings up India's 50.

Evans continues, Kalra gets to the pitch of the ball and plays it straight down the ground for a boundary.

Evans replies with a bouncer. Kalra then gets a run to extra-cover.

Shaw just happy to defend the good balls here. He then just jabs at the ball and plays it down to deep third man for a couple.

He ends the over with a single. 8 come off the over.

Two runs come off the over.


Hadley continues and teases Kalra. That is a play and a miss.

Kalra then edges the ball to third man past slips for a single. 

Wide and Shaw has played out five deliveries for no runs.


Evans continues.

Kalra and Shaw run a tight run. Merlo has a go and Shaw would have been gone had it hit the stumps.

Short and wide and Shaw gives it the treatment. He plays it past point for a boundary.

Evans makes Shaw play. A play and a miss. Good ball. 

Five runs come in the over.

Three runs come off the over. And there is another bout of a drizzle here.

Hadley continues and Shaw uses his wrists nicely to time the ball to the on-side for a couple.

Light rain has come down and the players are walking off the field. 

The groundsmen are laying the covers on the pitch and surrounding area.
Three extras and 8 runs in the over makes it a costly one for Australia. 

Evans knocks the stumps before delivering the ball and that counts as a no-ball. India get a free-hit.

Kalra makes use of the free-hit and smacks the ball over mid-on for a six. The first maximum of the innings.

Hadley continues and the Indian batsmen are working him nicely for the singles and two.

Too full, drifting into the pads and Shaw dispatches it through mid-wicket for a four. The first boundary of the innings.

Zak Evans is opening the bowler at the other end. He has bowled a good line and length to start off with a maiden.

Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra open the batting for India and Shaw takes strike as Hadley come in to bowl.

Nagarkoti is once again the pick of the bowlers for India with three wickets against his name as Australia slumped from 134 for 4 in the 29th over to 216 all out in the 48th over.

Other than Merlo (76), Uppal (34) and McSweeney (23), no other noteworthy contributions were made by the Aussie batsmen.

India now have a chance to claim their record fourth title with a disciplined batting effort.  

Mavi brought back into the attack and finishes the job.

Bowls in that corridor, Hadley gets a faint nick and Aus all-out for 216.

No 11 bat Lloyd Pope comes to the crease. 

Ryan Hadley comes in to bat and gets a single to get off  the mark.

Holt tries to go after the bowling, Shiva can't get there in time and the catch goes down but he has the presence of mind to throw the ball back to the keeper to have Holt run-out for 13.


Nagarkoti continues and strikes !

Full and quick and Evans is beaten all ends up and he goes for 1. 

That 250-run target is looking a distant dream now.
Zak Evans comes into bat at the fall of Merlo's wicket. He gets off the mark with a single. 

That's four runs and a wicket in the over.  

Roy comes back into the attack and strikes!

Just when Merlo was looking to accelerate, he holes out to Shiva in the deep.

That is the end of his fighting knock.

Last five overs to go and Australia will look to step on the gas to go past the 250-run mark.

Nagarkoti continues with five men on the boundary.

Bolt plays it to mid-on and scampers for a run. Another run-out chance goes out of the window.

Merlo plays a single to point, followed by Holt's hit to deep backward point that allows him a single. 

Nagarkoti then bowls two slower balls to have the batsman surprised.

Merlo plays the last ball of the over to cover point for a single and four come off it.

Shiva continues and Holt pushes for a couple to mid-wicket. 

The Aussie batsmen are working the ball around well in the PowerPlay and six runs come off the over. 

That is the end of Shiva's quota of runs. He figures read 10 overs for 2 wickets and 36 runs. Just brilliant that!

Mavi continues and six runs come off the over. 200 up for Australia.

Seven runs and a wicket come in that over. 

Baxter Holt is the new man in and gets off the mark with a drive to long-on.

Merlo and Baxter then get a single each. 

Shiva continues and Merlo gets a single.

Shiva strikes again as Sutherland gets an inside edge and a good catch completed by keeper Desai to send the batsman back to the hut.

It's the final Powerplay and Mavi continues. Some sloppy fielding costs India four runs.

Will Sutherland comes to the crease and gets off the mark with a single. 

Six runs and a wicket come in that over.

McSweeney can't make the most of that reprieve as he is dismissed off the very next over by Shiva. 

The batsman picks the bowler and sweeps him to the boundary before falling to the bowler.

He hands Shiva a simple caught and bowled to be dismissed for 23.

Mavi replaces Nagarkoti.

McSweeney starts with a single. Merlo then cuts the ball to third man for a single.

McSweeney then plays the ball through slips for a single to third man. 

Merlo then plays the ball  to mid-wicket.

Last ball of the over is a bouncer, McSweeney has a go at it, keeper runs behind in an attempt to catch it but can't get to it on time. 

That is a life for McSweeney.

Shiva continues and the Australian batsmen are doing well to just dab the ball around to pick four runs in the over. 

Nagarkoti continues and gives 3 runs in the over.

The Australian batsmen are playing the Indian left-arm spinners well here. They are taking the singles and twos with ease. 

Roy continues and Merlo sweeps again and the ball goes in between the keeper's legs for a boundary to fine leg. 

He then takes a single to the on-side. 

Uppal plays the next five deliveries without a hassle but no runs come off them. Five come off the over.

The batsmen play him around the field and pick the singles with ease. Four come off the over.

India have failed to find another wicket since the fall of Sangha in the 12th over.

Merlo then reverse sweeps to bring up the 100 for Australia with a boundary to short third man.

The batsmen pick 7 runs in the over.

Another left-arm spinner, Anukul Roy replaces Shiva and three runs come off his over. 

Spin from both ends as left-arm spinner Abhishekh Sharma comes on to bowl. He gives four runs in the over.

Shiva continues and bowls another miserly over, giving just two runs off it.

Nagarkoti continues. Uppal gets a glove to the ball as the ball falls short off the keeper on the leg side.

Short and wide and Uppal just cuts it through point for a boundary. 

He then plays the ball to square leg for a couple.

It's drinks and Australia are on their way to doing some damage control.

Uppal and Merlo are doing well to launch a fight back, playing each ball to it's merit.

Nagarkoti continues and he gives Uppal some width and the batsmen just times the ball sweetly to the backward point boundary for a four.

Nagarkoti then bowls a bouncer and umpire calls it wide. 

Shiva continues and both Uppal and Merlo doing well rotate the strike and pick four runs off it.

A swing and a miss from Merlo and India have an attacking field in place.

Short ball and Merlo cuts it square on the off side for a boundary. 

The batsmen then scamper for a couple of singles. Six runs come off that over, a good one for the Aussies.

Just when Aus captain Sangha was looking good he has been sent back to the pavillion for 13. That is a big wicket for Australia, who are now in big trouble. 

Param Uppal is the new batsman in and he gets off the mark with a single to the on-side.

Right-arm medium pacer Nagarkoti comes to bowl.

And India have missed a run-out chance here.

Sangha pulls the ball and keeps the ball down to get a boundary down to fine leg.

Nagarkoti strikes! He bowls in that corridor and Sangha chases it. Gets a thick outside edge and keeper Desai dives right to complete a good catch.

Left-arm orthodox bowler Shiva Singh comes into the attack and gives away just one run. 

Jonathan Merlo is the new man in for the Aussies and he gets a reprieve. 

He gets a thick edge and is dropped by the keeper!

Aus 52-2 (10 ovs) vs Ind | Scorecard


Edwards gone for 28 and that is a big scalp for India! 

Porel gets his 2nd wicket.

Porel continues and Edwards gifted three runs after some poor fielding. Overthrows and no one to back it up.

Fifty comes up for Australia as Sangha pull the ball over deep mid-wicket for a couple.

He then plays the ball down to fine leg for a single.

Edwards hands the most simplest of catches to Nagarkoti at covers. The ball goes high on him, and he tries to play it off the backfoot. Could not get enough on it and plays it straight to the fielder at cover.

Mavi continues and Sangha nicely gets under it to play a defensive shot.

Wow! Sangha leaves that alone. The Aus captain struggling a bit to get his timing on his shots right.

Mavi bowling a good length to the batsman here to keep the scoring in check and that is a maiden! Nicely bowled by Mavi.

Porel continues.

Wow! That's some lovely timing from Sangha, who plays the ball through covers for 3. 

Edwards comes down the track and tries to whack the ball but does not connect. 

He wants to get on with it here.

Mavi continues and Edwards plays the first ball straight down the ground for a boundary.

He follows that up with another four, this time he pulls the short ball to the mid-wicket boundary.

Mavi then bowls a wide. Edwards takes a single to bring Sangha on strike and the Aus captain has been delivered a beauty here!

Sangha then gets off the mark with a single to deep backward point.

Aus captain Jason Sangha comes in to bat at No 3 and attempts a dangerous run. No damage done.

That's a wicket-maiden by Porel.

Aus lose the first wicket for 32 (5.1 ovs).

India get the breakthrough!

Bryant goes and he gives a good catch to Abhishek Sharma at cover and Porel strikes!

A big over for Australia as 12 come off it.

Mani continues and that is back-back boundaries for Edwards. An element of luck as the 2nd boundary comes through the slips.

Edwards then plays the ball through backward point for another boundary.

Porel continues and he bowls a wide and gives 8 runs in the over as Bryant scores a boundary off the last ball of the over.

6 runs come off the Mani over. 

Mani continues and Bryant takes a single to mid-on off the second ball of the over. 

Edwards then takes a single to bring Bryant back on strike. 

Bryant then go after Mani, it's a short ball and he just smashes it through the cover-point region.

Ishant Porel bowls from the other end and Max Bryant starts the over with a boundary! 

And that is five runs in the over.
