India 76-4 (36 ovs) vs SA 286 | Scorecard

South Africa maintained their stranglehold as they reduced India to 76 for four in 36 overs at lunch on Day 2 of the first Test.

Cheteshwar Pujara battled hard to be unbeaten on 26 from 91 balls, while Ravichandran Ashwin was not out in 12.

It was tough going for India in the morning against the South African pace quartet. The visitors managed just 48 runs from 25 overs, while losing the wicket of Rohit in the morning session.

Rohit, who made 11, was dismissed leg before wicket by Rabada, who gave the Indians quite a few problems with his extra pace and bounce.

Pujara and Rohit played cautiously as their fourth-wicket partnership yielded just 30 runs from 121 balls as India were never allowed to break free.

South Africa are in control and a few quick wickets after the lunch interval could see them dismiss India cheaply.

For India, the key would not only be survival but also scoring some runs and take their total somewhere close to the 200-run mark.
