SA v India, 1st Test: Rain washes out play on Day 3

Play has been called off, BCCI writes on its Twitter handle. 

Day 3 has been rained off without a ball being bowled. BCCI further states that play will resume at usual time on Day 4. 

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada 2 (not out) and Hashim Amla 4 (not out) will take strike on Day 4.

On Day 2, South Africa, who grabbed a 77-run first innings lead, reached 65 for two in their second innings to swell their lead to 142 runs.

Rains continue to assault Cape Town and Newlands stadium as play has been further delayed. 

According to Reuters, showers are forecast until mid-afternoon, South Africa time, and with low cloud and persistent drizzle soaking the outfield, play may not be possible until the final session.

Earlier on Day 2, all-rounder Hardik Pandya smashed a quickfire half-century and then claimed a couple of wickets to keep India in the hunt, on Day 2 of the first Test in Cape Town.

Pandya blasted 93 from 95 balls, laced with 14 fours and a six, to help India rally to 209 in their first innings.

South Africa, who grabbed a 77-run first innings lead, reached 65 for two in their second innings to swell their lead to 142 runs.
