Rabada comes back and nearly picks up a wicket. Kohli is drawn into the defensive poke but the ball kicks up from length and nearly takes the edge.

He learns from the mistake and offers no shot to the next three balls before taking a single from the fifth ball and Rohit Sharma leaves the last ball alone.

Kohli plays another confident cover drive only for a single to deep extra cover. Rohit gets off the mark with a four, steering a short wide ball late past the fielder inside the circle.

The pitch is quite slow as Kohli pulls Rabada but the ball goes wide of the fielder at mid-on but only for a single before Rohit sees off the rest of the over.

In the next over, Kohli again picks a single off the first ball off Maharaj before Rohit defends the remaining five deliveries.

Kohli goes back to defend Rabada but is beaten as the South Africans appeal for leg before wicket. But umpire Paul Reiffel is not interested and South Africa decide not take the DRS. And rightly so, the ball hit Kohli high on the pads and might gone over the stumps.

Kohli guides a wide delivery from Maharaj past the fielder in the slips for three runs.

It is turning out to be a good contest between Rabada and Kohli, two of the leading players in Test cricket at the moment.

He slaps Rabada to sweeper cover and calls back Rohit for the second run, who is lazy turning around. He is lucky that the fielder misses the direct hit as he was clearly struggling to make his crease.

Rabada then drops it short as Kohli turns it off his pads to deep square leg for another run.
