Jasprit Bumrah picked up five wickets to bowl out South Africa for 194 and keep India's hopes alive on Day 2.

India wiped off the slender first-innings lead of seven runs before they reached 49 for one at stumps on Day 2, to take an overall lead of 42 runs.

Promoted to open the innings, Parthiv Patel was caught off an inside edge by Aiden Markram off pacer Vernon Philander for 16.

Murali Vijay was unbeaten on 13 at stumps, while Rahul was not out on 16 to help India finish with a slight upperhand.

Earlier, Bumrah polished off South Africa's tail with quick wickets to finish with career-best figures of five for 54, while the impressive Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed three for 44.

Hashim Amla top-scored with a gutsy innings of 61, while nightwatchman Kagiso Rabada pitched in with a handy 30 and Philander stroked an useful 35 lower down the order.
