Morne Morkel comes into the attack. Rahul clips the third ball behind square on the leg side as Lungi Ngidi makes a diving stop on the fine leg fence to keep it down to two.

Vijay has looked much better in this innings, than in the previous five innings before this.

He strides forward confidently and punches the full delivery from Rabada into the covers for a single.

South Africa have bowled wide or either too short and the Indian batsmen have been to able most of the deliveries.

Vijay gets the edge off Morkel, but it goes past the slips for a four. Two balls later, he slaps a short ball square on the off-side for a couple of runs.

Pacer Lungi Ngidi comes into the attack in place of Rabada. Rahul taps the fourth ball on the leg side and runs across for a single.

Vijay is struck on the pads off the last ball as South Africa appeal for leg before but it is turned down.

Rahul looking quite solid as he drives Ngidi through the off-side for a four before he picks a single off the fifth ball.

Morkel to bowl the final over of the day. Morkel beats Rahul with the first ball courtesy of some bounce before the right-hander glances the third ball fine for four leg byes.

The last ball is drive into the covers where the fielder does well to stop it to end the first day.

India end the day on a high as they reach 49 for one at stumps on Day 2, with an overall lead of 42 runs.

Vijay has looked solid on 13 from 49 balls, while Rahul made 16 from 38 balls.
