Joe Root hit his second successive century to power England to an eight-wicket victory against India which helped them clinch the three-match series 2-1.

Root smashed an unbeaten 100, while captain Eoin Morgan 88 not out as England cruised to 260 for two in 44.3 overs to win by eight wickets with 33 balls to spare.

Jonny Bairstow had given England the perfect as he blasted a quickfire 30 from 13 balls, while James Vince made 27 from as many balls.

Earlier, England bowlers Adil Rashid and David Willey grabbed three wickets each and India captain Virat Kohli made 71 as the touring side scored 256 for eight.

India got off to a cautious start, reaching 32-1 from 10 overs, after England won the toss on a Headingley wicket that is assisting the spinners.

But Kohli and opener Shikhar Dhawan increased the scoring rate as India took 68 from the next 10 overs.

Dhawan was run out for 44 by a brilliant piece of fielding from Ben Stokes and India lost wickets at regular intervals.

Leg-spinner Rashid grabbed the prize scalp of Kohli who fell to a beauty that pitched on leg and clipped the top of off stump to leaving the prolific right-hander wide-eyed in disbelief.
