KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied India after an early wicket to guide the visitors to 53 for one at lunch on Day 2 of the fifth Test at the Oval.

Rahul stroked a brisk 35, while Pujara was unbeaten on 15.

They lost Shikhar Dhawan early, who was trappped leg before wicket by Stuart Broad for six in the second over of the innings.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 332 in their first innings with Jos Buttler top-scoring with 89.

Resuming the day on 198 for seven, England were able to add 134 runs for the last three wickets as India's bowlers once again struggled to knock out the lower order.

Buttler led the way with a sparkling innings of 89, adding 98 runs for the ninth wicket with Stuart Broad, who contributed with a vital 38.

Alastair Cook, in his farewell Test, had made 71, while Moeen Ali scored a patient 50 at No. 3.

India had left England in a mess as they picked up six wickets in the post-tea session on Day 1 before the tailenders again came to the rescue.

For India, Jadeja took the bowling honours with four for 79, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma picked up three wickets each.
