Afghanistan struggle with the bat

Afg 125-3 (30 ovs) vs England 397-6 | Scorecard

Wood is back into the attack after four overs from Stokes in his first spell. He tries a short ball as Shahidi defends and then offers no shot to the next before taking a single.

Asghar Afghan then blocks the last two balls as Wood bowls another good over.

This is turning out to be a lacklustre contest with Afghanistan just content to get some batting practice and not even attempting a few shots on a flat wicket.

Rashid gives away three singles in his second over before Wood gives away just two in his fifth over.

After a few tight overs, Afghan looks to break the shackles as he chips down and lofts Rashid over the midwicket fence for a six.

Shahidi also comes down but gets it off the outside of the half of the bat, for another run to sweeper cover.

Rashid slips the quicker down the leg side as Afghan pulls it fine for another four.

In the next over, Shahidi gets a thick outside which goes past the slip fielder for a single.

Afghan then does well to keep out the bouncer as Wood bowls it right at the body before he pulls the next for one to midwicket.

Wood then hits Shahidi on the helmet with a quick bouncer as the left-hander takes his eye off the ball trying to duck under but is struck flush on the helmet.

All the England players check on Shahidi as the physio also comes out to check on the left-hander, who is undergoing some concussion tests.

Shahidi was back on his feet immediately and in more good news he feels good enough to continue his batting.

Not surprising the last ball is again a bouncer as Shahidi defends it on the leg side for one.
