He pulls the third ball to deep midwicket and rushes back for the second to level scores.

The last ball is tapped to thirdman for a single as Sri Lanka clinch a four-wicket victory with two balls to spare.

The experienced Bhuvneshwar, who has taken 1/9 in three overs, is back to bowl the crucial 19th over.

Karunarante turns the strike with a single and de Silva picks one off the next on the leg side.

Bhuvneshwar gifts Karunaratne a full toss which he lofts over long-on for a six to bring the equation down to 12 from nine balls.

The next ball is chipped over the fielder in the covers as Karunaratne picks two runs wide of long-off.

Karunaratne shuffles across before he throws his bat at a wide delivery but is beaten before he gets a thick outside edge over short thirdman for two runs.

Sri Lanka need eight runs from the last over for victory.

Sakariya, who has two overs in hand, comes back into the attack. Mendis is beaten first ball by the change of pace from the left-arm pacer.

Sakariya strikes next ball with another cleverly-disguised slower ball as Mendis miscues the loft and is caught at deep midwicket for two.

A single to de Silva and Chamika Karunaratne before the former steers a wide delivery past short thirdman for a four and picks two runs to long-on.

Sri Lanka need 20 from 2 overs for victory.

Pacer Bhuvneshwar is back into the attack. De Silva turns the first ball into the leg side for a single and Ramesh Mendis picks one off the next ball.

De Silva tries to reverse sweep but misses as Bhuvi bowls the slower ball before he is beaten again by the change of pace.

De Silva swings the fifth ball but can't get hold of it, as it goes on the bounce to deep square leg for two runs and then takes a single off the last ball.

Chakravarthy comes back into the attack. De Silva is beaten trying to cut as the ball goes straight on before he pulls the next ball for a single.

Mendis is hit on the pads as he gets a leg bye and de Silva drives the fourth ball for two runs through the covers, followed by singles off the last two balls.

Six runs from the over as Chakravarthy finishes with 1/18 in his four overs.

Sri Lanka need 65 from eight overs for victory at an asking rate of over eight.

Chakravarthy, who has two overs in hand, is back into the attack. Hasaranga is unable to get a run off the first two balls before he takes a single to long-on.

De Silva takes one to point off the fourth ball, followed by two more singles, as Chakravarthy concedes just four runs in the 13th over.

Kuldeep to bowl his fourth and final over. Hasaranga hits the second ball straight down the ground as the fielder at long-off dives over the ball to concede a four.

Two balls later, de Silva lofts a flighted delivery over the fielder at long-on for a six before taking one off the next.

Hasaranga clips the last ball for a couple as Kuldeep concedes 15 runs from his final over, to finish with 2/30 from his four overs.

Chahar, who has one over in hand, is back into the attack. De Silva hits the first ball for a single and Hasaranga pulls the next for another run.

Another single for de Silva before Hasaranga keeps the runs flowing as he lofts Chahar back over his head for a four, despite the leggie attempting the cross run up across the umpire similar to left-arm spinner bowling round the wicket.

Chahar reverts to his normal run up and strikes with the key wicket of Hasaranga with the final ball. The flighted delivery turns away sharply as Hasaranga throws his bat but gets a thick outside edge and is caught at point for 15.

Chahar continues as Sri Lanka look to lift the tempo. He hits the second ball uppishly over the covers for two runs and then sweeps the next for one.

Bhanuka attempts the reverse sweep but is beaten before he takes a single in the covers and blocks the last ball.

Kuldeep is unlucky again. Bhanuka miscues the inside out lofted shot but Bhuvneshwar puts down an easy catch running back at point.

But Kuldeep gets his man two balls later, as Bhanuka slog sweeps the full delivery straight into the hands of Sakariya at deep midwicket for 36.

Spinner Chahar comes back into the attack. Singles from the first two balls before Shanaka attempts the reverse which he misses as he takes a leg bye.

Bhanuka sweeps the fourth ball for a couple of runs before he comes down and chips the next over midwicket for a four.

The last ball is pulled for a single as 10 runs come from the ninth over to help Sri Lanka catch up on the asking rate.

Kuldeep gets his man in the next over. Shanaka comes down the track but is beaten by the sharp turn as Samson pulls off a sharp stumping down the leg side.

New batsman Dhanajaya de Silva is beaten first ball off the inside edge as Samson appeals for another stumping, which is referred to the third umpire but there is no edge and his feet were rooted to the crease.

Four runs from the over as Sri Lanka reach 58/3 in 10 overs, needing another 75 runs from the remaining 10 overs for victory.

Bhanuka clips the first ball to midwicket for one and Samarawickrama pulls the third ball for another run.

Bhanuka taps the fifth ball for one before Chakravarthy strikes with the wicket of Samarawickrama, who fails to read the googly and is bowled for eight.

Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack. Shanaka survives a huge shout for leg before wicket as he looks to sweep but is hit on the pads.

The umpire turns down the appeal but Kuldeep is unable to convince his captain to take the review.

That turns out to be the wrong call as Shanaka was hit in line with the ball going to crash into the middle of middle stump. An opportunity lost for the Indians.

A single to Bhanuka to long-off before Shanaka takes one off the last ball as Kuldeep concedes four in his first over.
22:14   Bhanuka rallies SL after early wicket

Chetan Sakariya continues as Bhanuka targets the youngster by lofting the first ball over mid-on for a four.

He is hit high on the pads next ball to pick a leg bye before Sadeera Samarawickrama gets off the mark with a single in the covers.

Sakariya bowls a poor delivery as Manuka is able to glance the fourth ball fine off his pads for a four and then keeps out the last two balls.

Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy comes into the attack. He starts with a short wide delivery which Samarawickrama cuts behind point for a four and then survives a leg before shout two balls later.

Slightly short as Samarawickrama pushes the fifth ball into the covers for one and Bhanuka takes a single off the last ball.

Spin from both ends as leggie Rahul Chahar comes in from the other end. He starts with a half-tracker which left-hander Bhanuka pulls over midwicket for a four.

He takes a single off the third ball and Samarawickrama takes one to mid-on followed by another run.

Sri Lanka are 36 for one in six overs, with Bhanuka on 17 and Samarawickrama on seven. They need another 97 runs from 14 overs for victory at under seven per over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will look to pick a few early wickets with the new ball with India defending 133 on a pitch not that easy for batting.

Avishka Fernando defends the first ball before he is beaten next ball with the pacer getting the ball to move away sharply.

Fernando is beaten again next ball as he plays away from his body and then takes a single to thirdman.

Minod Bhanuka blocks the last ball as just a single comes from the first over.

Debutant Chetan Sakariya into the attack from the other end. Fernando defends the first two balls before he flicks the third ball past short fine leg for a four.

The next ball is overpitched and wide as Fernando drills it through the covers for another boundary before he takes a single to thirdman.

Bhuvneshwar continues as Fernando pushes the first ball to midwicket and runs the next to thirdman for a single and Bhanuka takes one to get off the mark.

Bhuvneshwar makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Fernando for 11, with Rahul Chahar taking a stunning catch at deep square leg.

Chahar ran to his right near the boundary before taking a good catch as the momentum carried him over but he managed to lob the ball in and then got inside the boundary to complete the catch. He has pulled off an amazing catch to give India the early wicket.

Pacer Chameera is back into the attack. Bhuvneshwar hits a full toss down to long-on for one before the pacer bowls a wide.

Rana clips the next off his hips to deep square leg for one as the fielder at deep square leg comes across quickly to stop the second run and Bhuvneshwar manages just one off the next.

Rana upper cuts the fourth ball over the wicketkeeper for two runs and then blocks out the full delivery.

He keeps strike with a single from the last ball on the off-side, as just seven runs come from the 18th over.

Leg-spinner Hasaranga comes into the attack. Rana sweeps the first ball for one before Bhuvneshwar hits the next wide of long-on for two runs.

He has another swing off the fourth ball for another couple of runs and then inside edges the fifth ball which narrowly misses the stumps and gets India three runs with the fielder putting in the dive to keep it inside the ropes.

Hasaranga bowls a big wide down the leg side to gift India five wides as Rana attempts the reverse sweep but offers no shot seeing the ball going down.

Rana sweeps the last ball for a single to deep square leg as 14 runs come from the over.

Chameera to bowl the final over. Rana hits the first ball through the covers for a single before Bhuvneshwar is beaten trying to run the next to thirdman.

Bhuvneshwar is beaten again but he manages to take a quick bye this time around.

Rana comes down and makes room but mistimes the slower ball and is caught in the covers for nine.

Two singles from the last two balls as India finish on 132/5 in their 20 overs.

Sri Lanka did well to keep Indian batsmen in check with their spinners doing well in the middle overs. Akila Dananjaya took 2/29, while Hasaranga, Shanaka and Chameera took one wicket each.

Captain Dhawan top-scored with 40, while debutants Padikkal and Gaikwad scored 29 and 21 respectively.

Rana attempts to reverse sweep Akila Dananjaya but is hit on the pads before he takes a single to long-on.

Samson takes one to square leg before the spinner bowls a wide down the leg side to Rana, as they pick another extra run with the keeper unable to collect it.

Samson comes down the track but is beaten in flight as he tries to pad it out but the ball goes through to bowl him for seven.

India coming undone against spin as they are reduced to 104/4 in the 17th over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks in at No 6 and he gets off the mark with two runs to thirdman and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

India have lost three wickets for 26 runs in the last five overs.
21:08   Padikkal falls for 29; India lose 3rd wkt

Hasaranga is back into the attack. It's all singles at the moment as three singles come from the first four balls from the leg-spinner.

Samson gets a thick bottom edge which hits wicketkeeper Bhanuka on the left thigh as he barely has time to react.

The last ball turns away sharply as Samson looks to drive but is beaten.

Akila Dananajaya also builds up pressure from the other end. A single each to Padikkal and Samson before the former attempts to loft the spinner down the ground but fails to make proper connection for two runs to long-off.

He is beaten next ball as Dananjaya gets the ball to turn away sharply followed by singles off the last two balls.

In the next over, Padikkal reverse sweeps Hasaranga over the off-side for a four.

However, the spinner gets revenge next ball as Padikkal goes for the slog sweep which he misses and is bowled after scoring 29 from 23 balls on his India debut.

Debutant Nitish Rana gets off the mark with a single to long-on before Hasaranga gets the last ball to turn big to beat Samson.

Dhananjaya continues as Dhawan and Padikkal continue to deal in singles. Just four singles from five deliveries before Padikkal slog sweeps the last ball for a huge six over midwicket, with India making their intent clear.

Shanaka is back into the attack. The first ball is down the leg side as Dhawan picks it over short fine leg for a four before the pacer bowls a wide.

A single to Dhawan in the covers before Padikkal pulls a short ball through midwicket for two runs.

He has a big swing next ball but misses and then hits the last ball wide of long-on for two runs.

Dhawan looks to break free against Akila Dananjaya but misses the attempted slog sweep and is bowled for 40.

Another opportunity for Sanju Samson, who walks in at No 4. He gets off the mark with a single to deep midwicket and Padikkal drives the fourth ball to long-off for another run.

Samson taps the fifth to long-on for one before Padikkal clips the last ball to deep midwicket for another run.

Off-spinner Dhananjaya comes into the attack, to bowl the ninth over. Padikkal drives the first ball through the covers for a single and Dhawan sweeps the third for one.

Padikkal picks another run to mid-off before Dhawan is unable to get a run off the last two balls.

The spinners have dried up the boundaries as the two Indian batsmen feel the pressure, and look to break free.

In the next over, Dhawan tries to reverse sweep Mendis but is beaten and the appeal for caught behind is turned down.

He smashes the third ball straight down the ground beating the man at long-off for a much-needed boundary to release some pressure.

A single each to Dhawan and Padikkal before the former attempts another reverse and is beaten again.

Just 12 runs from the last three overs as India reach 61 for one in 10 overs.

Captain Shanaka brings himself into the attack. Gaikwad is beaten by the slower ball as he comes down the track before he mistimes the pull next ball for a single.

Dhawan steers the third ball to fine leg for two runs and pulls the next for one.

Shanaka makes the breakthrough with the wicket of Gaikwaid, who top edges the pull shot and is caught by the wicketkeeper for 21 from 18 balls.

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis comes into the attack. He starts off well with three good deliveries pitched in a good area on and around the off-stump as Dhawan plays three dots in a row.

He taps the fourth ball to square leg for one before debutant Devdutt Padikkal is beaten all ends up by a beauty. He pushes forward to defend but the ball turns away enough to beat the bat and narrowly misses the off-stump.

He gets off the mark with a single from the last ball for his first run in international cricket.

Left-arm pacer Isuru Udana comes into the attack. A single each to Gaikwad and Dhawan before the former top edges the sweep off the pacer bowler but it falls safely on the leg side.

Udana overpitches on the pads as Dhawan whips it in the gap between mid-on and midwicket for a four but is beaten by the change of pace next ball. Gaikwad is nearly run out off the last ball as he comes down a long way for the quick single but is sent back.

Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga comes into the attack. Gaikwad pushes the first ball to point and takes a quick single, this time both complete the single easily.

Dhawan taps the next to midwicket for one and Gaikwad late cuts the third ball past short thirdman for three runs.

Singles off the next two balls as India race to 45 for no loss in six overs, with Dhawan on 23 and Gaikwaid on 20.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka has won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the second T20 International in Colombo.

India have been forced to a field a depleted team after Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the isolation of seven of his team-mates including Prithvi Shaw, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar among others.

India have made as many as seven changes with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Navdeep Saini and Chetan Sakariya coming into the team.

Infact, there are four debutants among the seven including Gaikwad, Padikkal, Rana and Sakariya.

Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal are the players who have missed out.

19:18   Depleted India eye series win vs SL

Welcome to the coverage of the second T20 International between India and Sri Lanka, which was postponed by a day after Krunal Pandya tested positive for COVID-19.

His positive forced seven players Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, and Krishna Gowtham - who were identified as close contacts go into isolation, resulting in them missing the remaining two T20Is.

Reserve players Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore and Simarjeet Singh have been added to the Indian squad ahead of the second match.

However, India's batting line-up has been severely depleted with the absence of their top players like Shaw, Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya.

India lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the series opener by 38 runs.
