India U-15 beat Holland

India, beaten by England in their opening match on Sunday, kept themselves in the race for a place in the semi-finals of the Costcutter Under-15 cricket World Cup with an easy 10-wicket victory over lowly Holland at Eton College on Monday.

Set a victory target of 111 in 50 overs, the Indians crusied through without the loss of any wicket in just 20.3 overs. Openers Swapnaj Thakur (56) and Abhinav Kumar (30) had little difficulty in negotiating the Dutch bowlers, who added to their woes by conceeding 25 extras.

Opener H Seelar, with a resolute knock of 32, and F Trijzelar (21) were the only batsmen to offer some rersistance when Holland batted. Irfan Khan with 2 for 24, Rajesh Banik with 2 for 14, Vasudev Das with 2 for 16 and Subhash Dixit with 2 for 16 did the job for the bowling side.

In another match at Eton College, England beat the West Indies to assure themselves a place in the semi-finals. The talented spin duo of Dan Broadbent and James Beaumont, who together spelt India's doom on Sunday, again stole the limelight as the hosts won by six wickets.

England's game against Holland in group A on Wednesday is only of academic interest.

On Sunday, Broadbent and Beaumont collectively took four for 49 in 20 overs against the Indians. Against the West Indies, they each claimed 2 for 20 runs in their ten overs. Seamer Tim Bresnan chipped in with 3 wickets for 30 as the West Indies were dismissed for 130.

James Hildreth then topscored with 42 as England coasted to victory with nine overs to spare.

In Group B, South Africa also booked a semi-final berth after crushing Zimbabwe by nine wickets while Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 37 runs.
